Book Petroleum Geology of Wyoming Classic Reprint

Download or read book Petroleum Geology of Wyoming Classic Reprint written by L. W. Trumbull and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Petroleum Geology of Wyoming NO attempt has been made to refer by footnotes to the many geologists who have worked and written upon different areas in the State. A bibliography is given elsewhere, and the writer acknowledges his indebtedness to each and every writer and work in the list. When the writer began his geologic work in Wyo ming in 1904, the published data were very meager. The surveys of Hayden and King covered the south half of the State in a reconnaissance way, but were not, for obvious reasons, tied to the public land survey. During the past dozen years the work of the United States Geological Survey on coal, oil and phosphate has given us many splendid detailed surveys of different areas within the State. This volume, especially the accompanying map, could not be compiled, were it not for these Government reports. The only changes in the pamphlet are the addition of some foot-notes and part of the paragraph under the heading Depth, with the sketch and tabulation on Pages 128 and 129. The office is now unable to supply many of the detailed reports which have been issued in years past. Several new reports will issue during the coming winter. Book Geography and Geology of a Portion of Southwestern Wyoming

Download or read book Geography and Geology of a Portion of Southwestern Wyoming written by A. C. Veatch and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-07-05 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Geography and Geology of a Portion of Southwestern Wyoming: With Special Reference to Coal and Oil The area discussed in this report comprises the extreme southwest corner of Wyoming and a small portion of Utah. Its northern and eastern boundaries lie, respectively, about 70 miles north of the southern boundary and about 35 miles east of the western boundary of Wyoming. The immediate incentive to this work was the decided economic need of more extended and accurate information regard ing the coal fields of the western United States. Field work was commenced on June 30, 1905, near Evanston, Wyo., with Alfred R. Schultz as chief assistant, Max A. Fishel as geologic aid and helper, and William Longhurst as cook and teamster. Mr. Fishel was appointed in place of a regular camp hand, and rendered considerable scientific assistance. In general, the policy of employing student help in place of regular camp hands is believed to be best for all parties concerned. During the illness of the writer, August 3 to Sep tember 3, Carl D. Smith, geologic aid, was added to the party. Field work was closed at Evanston on October 10. Doctor Schultz's efficient aid, both in the field and in the office, has contributed greatly to the results here presented. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Basin and Greybull Oil and Gas Fields, Bighorn County, Wyoming The first of these structures to be successfully tested by deep boring is known as the Peay Hill anticline and is situated a short distance southeast of Greybull, Wyoming, at the junction of the Bighorn and Greybull Rivers. In July, 1907, the Peay Hill Oil Development Co. Obtained a high pressure gas well on the east bank of the Bighorn River, in Sec. 21, T. 52 N., R. 93 W., which, from its ability to maintain a strong, steady flow of gas for months without visible signs of diminution was the first good proof of the existence of appreciable quantities of gas, and possibly also oil, in these anticlinals. This book was released on 2015-07-21 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Preliminary Report on the Utilization of Petroleum and Natural Gas in Wyoming The presence of oil and natural gas in Wyoming has been known for a long time, and many more or less sporadic attempts have been made to develop these resources commercially, but owing to a num ber of factors, such as inadequate transportation facilities, lack of capital, and poorly advised prospecting, it has been only within recent years that Wyoming has taken other than a minor part in oil production. With the successful development of the Salt Creek field north of Casper, however, prospecting received a new and vigorous impetus, and at the present time many rigs are being Operated at widely scattered localities in the endeavor to develop other equally remunerative territory. Gas has been discovered in the State in considerable quantity, notably in the Bighorn Basin, but owing to marketing limitations this resource has thus far not been utilized fully.
