Book Petite philosophie l usage des non philosophes

Download or read book Petite philosophie l usage des non philosophes written by Albert Jacquard and published by Calmann-Lévy. This book was released on 2014-04-01 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Economic Life Beyond Economists

Download or read book Economic Life Beyond Economists written by Abderrazak Belabes and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-08-12 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through an examination of the work of great scholars from fields including philosophy, literature, philology, semiology, quantum physics, history, and anthropology, this book argues that building on the contribution of non-economists can open new areas of reflection in economics beyond the usual schools of thought. The purpose of the book is twofold. First, it offers a critique and discussion of the limits of contemporary economic discourse, both mainstream and self-styled alternative theories. The central theme on which the book is built is that the discipline of economics fails to examine the nature of social reality in a systematic way. This prompts the economists to become fully aware of the methodology on which they base their representation, analysis, and argumentation in a way that economists currently are not. Second, the book proposes alternative ways of thinking that can help readers of economics to overcome the current limitations of their discipline. This means going beyond various dominant dualities – orthodox/heterodox, micro/ macro, epistemology/ontology – because it is not a question of doing ‘the economy’ differently, but of overcoming the economy as a representation of the world that strives to submit everything to its realm. Thus, the book does not simply propose a broader conceptual framework than that portrayed by mainstream economists or those who propose an alternative approach but raises questions that do not usually come from the minds of economists at all. The book will be of particular interest to readers of economic methodology and pluralism, philosophers of science, and other social scientists interested in methodological issues.

Book excerpt: From the Japanese word meaning "to create value," this book presents a fresh perspective on the question of the ultimate purpose of education. Mixing American pragmatism and the Buddhist philosophy of respect for all life, the goal of Soka education is the lifelong happiness of the learner. Rather than offering practical classroom techniques, this book speaks to the emotional heart of both the teacher and the student. With input from philosophers and activists from several cultures, it advances the conviction that the true purpose of education is to create a peaceful world and to develop the individual character of each student in order to achieve that goal. This revised edition contains four new chapters that further elaborate on how to unlock self-motivated learning and how to empower the learner to make a difference in their communities and the world.

Book EDGE

    Book Details:
  • Author : Koji Suzuki
  • Publisher : Kodansha USA
  • Release : 2012-12-11
  • ISBN : 1935654950
  • Pages : 417 pages

Download or read book EDGE written by Koji Suzuki and published by Kodansha USA. This book was released on 2012-12-11 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Edge begins with a massive and catastrophic shifting of the San Andreas fault. The fears of California someday tumbling into the sea—that have become the stuff of parody—become real. But even the terror resulting from this catastrophe pales in comparison to the understanding behind its happening, a cataclysm extending beyond mankind's understanding of horror as it had previously been known. The world is falling apart because things are out of joint at the quantum level, about which of course there's never been any guarantee that everything has to remain stable. Koji Suzuki returns to the genre he's most famous for after many years of "not wanting to write any more horror." As expected from Suzuki, the chills are of a more cerebral, psychological sort, arguably more unsettling and scary than the slice-and-dice gore fests that horror has become known in the U.S. Never content to simply do "Suzuki"—as it were—but rather push the envelope on what horror is in general and for which readers have come to know him, Edge borders on being cutting-edge science fiction. The author himself terms this novel, which he has worked on for some years, a work of "quantum horror."

Book excerpt: François Laruelles non-philosophy or non-standard philosophy represents a bold attempt to rethink how philosophy is practiced in relation to other domains of knowledge. There is a growing interest in Laruelles work in the English-speaking world, but his work is often misunderstood as a wholesale critique of philosophy. In this book Anthony Paul Smith dispels this misunderstanding and shows how Laruelles critique of philosophy is guided by the positive aim of understanding philosophys structure so that it can be creatively recast with other discourses and domains of human knowledge, from politics and ethics to science and religion. This book provides a synthetic introduction to the whole of Laruelles work. It begins by discussing the major concepts and methods that have framed non-philosophy for thirty years. Smith then goes on to show how those concepts and method enter into traditional philosophical domains and disempower the authoritarian framework that philosophy imposes upon them. Instead of offering a philosophy of politics or a philosophy of science, Laruelle aims at fostering a democracy of thought where philosophy is thought together and equal to the object of its inquiry. This book will be essential reading for students and scholars interested in contemporary French philosophy, and anyone who wants to discover more about one of its foremost practitioners.
