Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the first full-length book of research in English, Our Lady of La Vang: History and Theology of a Vietnamese Devotion demonstrates that Our Lady is the ecclesial Mother of the Church in Vietnam and, at the same time, the ecclesial Mother of the universal Church. The title “Mother of the Church,” a title that only fully came into its own with Vatican II and the subsequent endorsement of the popes, especially Pope Francis, was inculturated in the uniqueness of Vietnamese Catholic belief and practice from the time of Our Lady’s first apparition. What we see in the story and the cult of Our Lady is a piety and theology of Mary as “Mother of the Church,” which, as it developed, also solidified an identity of Vietnamese Catholics as such. One reason is that, just as Our Lady said she would, she inspired fortitude and endurance under persecution. The persecution of Christians in Vietnam lasted through nearly the entire nineteenth century in one form or another. As the official theology of Mary, Mother of the Church, developed more at Vatican II and in its legacy, it found a home in the hearts of Vietnamese Catholics where Mary had already been inculturated as ecclesial Mother.

Book Resisting the Holocaust

Download or read book Resisting the Holocaust written by Paul R. Bartrop and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2016-06-06 with total page 703 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book enables readers to learn about upstanders, partisans, and survivors from first-hand perspectives that reveal the many forms of resistance—some bold and defiant, some subtle—to the Nazis during the Holocaust. What did those who resisted the Nazis during the 1930s through 1945—known now as "the Righteous"—do when confronted with the Holocaust? How did those who resorted to physical acts of resistance to fight the Nazis in the ghettos, the concentration camps, and the forests summon the courage to form underground groups and organize their efforts? This book presents a comprehensive examination of more than 150 remarkable people who said "no" to the Nazis when confronted by the Holocaust of the Jews. They range from people who undertook armed resistance to individuals who risked—and sometimes lost—their lives in trying to rescue Jews or spirit them away to safety. In many cases, the very act of survival in the face of extreme circumstances was a form of resistance. This important book explores the many facets of resistance to the Holocaust that took place less than 100 years ago, providing valuable insights to any reader seeking evidence of how individuals can remain committed to the maintenance of humanitarian traditions in the darkest of times.

Book The Conscience of Humankind

Download or read book The Conscience of Humankind written by International Comparative Literature Association. Congress and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2000 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The traumatic experiences of persecution and genocide have changed traditional views of literature. The discussion of historical truth versus aesthetic autonomy takes an unexpected turn when confronted with the experiences of the victims of the Holocaust, the Gulag Archipelago, the Cultural Revolution, Apartheid and other crimes against humanity. The question is whether - and, if so, to what extent - literary imagination may depart from historical truth. In general, the first reactions to traumatic historical experiences are autobiographical statements, written by witnesses of the events. However, the second and third generations, the sons and daughters of the victims as well as of the victimizers, tend to free themselves from this generic restriction and claim their own way of remembering the history of their parents and grandparents. They explore their own limits of representation, and feel free to use a variety of genres; they turn to either realist or postmodernist, ironic or grotesque modes of writing.

Book Jung and Intuition

    Book Details:
  • Author : Nathalie Pilard
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2018-05-15
  • ISBN : 0429915322
  • Pages : 170 pages

Download or read book Jung and Intuition written by Nathalie Pilard and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-15 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jung and Intuition examines for the first time the twelve categories of intuition described in both the works of C. G. Jung and the post-Jungians. Nowhere, other than in Jung's own work, has intuition been more fully treated. Each form of intuition is critically explained in the historical context of its appearance and located in one of the four spheres of Jung's psychology: the unconscious, the subconscious (Unterbewusste, consciousness, and Jungian and post-Jungian practice. This work brings Jung's entire psychology in all its depth from 1896 to its contemporary use into greater clarity for both professionals and lay readers. The author persuasively shows that intuition is at the heart of Jung's psychology. It is central to his concept of the archetypes as well as to his understanding of the subconscious and the active imagination. It also involves both clinical and philosophical approaches, as powerfully demonstrated by his pioneering work at the Burgholzli Klinik in Zurich.
