Book Precise Chemical Application Technology for Horticultural Crops

Download or read book Precise Chemical Application Technology for Horticultural Crops written by Xiaolan Lv and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-06-03 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant chemical protection uses professional spraying machines to transport chemicals such as pesticides and herbicides to the target sites for pest, disease, and weed control in crop production. Such practices play a vital role in ensuring the supply of food, fruits, and vegetables for human beings. However, traditional plant chemical application methods suffer from excessive pesticide use, low utilization rate, and high labor intensity due to the backwardness of the existing sprayers, the single atomization technology, etc. In order to boost the progress of modern agriculture, plant chemical protection should be oriented toward efficient, accurate, and intelligent application technologies and equipment. Smart chemical application technology and efficient equipment can effectively reduce pesticide usage, mitigate the harm of chemicals to the environment, and lower labor intensity, realizing the sustainable development of disease and pest control of horticultural crops, ensuring food safety, and maintaining crop yield and quality.

Book Solid Set Canopy Delivery System Customized for High density Apple Orchards and Vineyards in the State of Washington

Download or read book Solid Set Canopy Delivery System Customized for High density Apple Orchards and Vineyards in the State of Washington written by Rajeev Ranjan Sinha and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solid set canopy delivery system (SSCDS) are envisioned as viable alternatives to conventional spraying techniques like an axial-fan airblast sprayer in tree-fruit orchards and vineyards. While SSCDS may reduce the amount of spray drift, exposure to pesticides, carbon footprint and drive-row compaction, it needs field scale optimization in terms of emitter selection, placement and scalability. Therefore, the overall goal of this research was to customize SSCDS in model perennial specialty crops grown in the state of Washington.Different SSCDS configurations were developed using off-the-shelf emitters for a high-density tall spindle trained apple orchard and a modified vertical shoot position trained vineyard. Suitable emitter types and their within canopy placement were identified through analyzing spray performance at different canopy locations. Field spray trials indicated the requirement of emitters at multiple canopy locations for adequate spray deposition and coverage. Moreover, hollow-cone emitters facilitated spray penetration into the foliage. The optimized SSCDS provided comparable spray deposition to that of an airblast sprayer in grapevines with significantly reduced off-target drift.A pneumatic spray delivery (PSD) system was developed to address the issue of non-uniform spray application pertinent to conventional hydraulic spray delivery (HSD) based SSCDS. A reservoir sub-system was developed and integrated with the HSD to have precisely metered spray material at each of the spray locations. While the drop in operating pressure was similar in both the systems, the PSD system had uniform spray output throughout the spray row length. Such design resulted in consistently higher spray deposition and coverage at different canopy locations in a high-density apple orchard.A rapid estimation method of tree-row-volume (TRV), leaf-wall-area (LWA), canopy volume (CV) and canopy cover (CC) was developed based on unmanned aerial system (UAS) acquired aerial imagery data. Precise estimation of TRV and LWA (R2 > 0.75) was achieved. Moreover, CV and CC estimates were significantly correlated to the ground measurements (p

Book Pest Management Programs for Deciduous Tree Fruits and Nuts

Download or read book Pest Management Programs for Deciduous Tree Fruits and Nuts written by D. J. Boethal and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pest Management Programs for Deciduous Tree Fruits and Nuts attempts to present the current status of pest management programs in orchard ecosystems. The book is a collection of papers from a symposium convened on the subject for the 1977 National Meeting of the Entomological Society of America and invitational papers on commodities not covered during the symposium. In recent years, books have appeared on "integrated pest management (IPM)"; however, most of these have concentrated on field crop IPM with an occasional chapter on fruits. No publication presently exists which brings together information on the pest management programs currently being conducted on the major nut crops, almonds, pecans and walnuts. Because it is the first treatment for almonds and walnuts, the authors of these chapters have attempted not only to present the current IPM technology but the historical data which led to the contemporary programs. Two chapters appear on pecan IPM. The first concentrates on the development of a management program for the pecan weevil, the key arthropod pest of pecans, while the second discusses the implementation of pilot pecan IPM programs in two southeastern states. The latter chapter illustrates that even with a limited data bank, the pesticide load in pecan orchards can be reduced by the adoption of the IPM approach to pest control.
