Book Perspectives On The Macromolecular Condensed State

Download or read book Perspectives On The Macromolecular Condensed State written by Renyuan Qian and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003-01-20 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main topics discussed in this book are the formation of the macromolecular condensed state from isolated long chain macromolecules in dilute solution, the salient physical behavior of the polymeric amorphous state, the liquid crystalline state of rigid chain polymers, the crystallization process and the single chain condensed state, all based on experimental results. The role of intersegmental cohesion and the difference between the single chain condensed state and the interpenetrated multichain condensed state are emphasized. In addition, the book introduces and discusses some new physical concepts, such as dynamic contact concentration, the looped chain, cohesional entanglement, the GOLR state (the global chain is highly oriented while the segmental orientation is completely random) and solidification-induced band texture.

Book Space Time Organization in Macromolecular Fluids

Download or read book Space Time Organization in Macromolecular Fluids written by Fumihiko Tanaka and published by Springer. This book was released on 1989 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Speech by Toyosaburo Taniguchi Dr. Kubo, Distinguished Guests, and Friends, I am very happy and pleased to be here this evening with so many distinguished gu~sts, friends, and scholars from within this country and from different parts of the world. The Taniguchi Foundation wishes to extend a wann and sincere welcome to the many participants in the Eleventh International Symposium on the Theory of Condensed Matter. This symposium series was inaugurated ten years ago through the great efforts of Dr. Ryogo Kubo, who is gracing us today with his presence. We are deeply indebted to Dr. Kubo and his associates, who have devoted an enormous amount of time and effort to making this particular symposium possible. We are convinced that what makes our symposia a success is neither the Foundation nor its founder. The success is entirely due, I feel, to the continuous efforts of the Organizing Committee and of all those who have lent their support to this program. In this sense, any words of praise about the symposium should be directed to all of them.

Book Dynamics of Soft Matter

Download or read book Dynamics of Soft Matter written by VICTORIA GARCIA SAKAI and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-12-18 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamics of Soft Matter: Neutron Applications provides an overview of neutron scattering techniques that measure temporal and spatial correlations simultaneously, at the microscopic and/or mesoscopic scale. These techniques offer answers to new questions arising at the interface of physics, chemistry, and biology. Knowledge of the dynamics at these levels is crucial to understanding the soft matter field, which includes colloids, polymers, membranes, biological macromolecules, foams, emulsions towards biological & biomimetic systems, and phenomena involving wetting, friction, adhesion, or microfluidics. Emphasizing the complementarities of scattering techniques with other spectroscopic ones, this volume also highlights the potential gain in combining techniques such as rheology, NMR, light scattering, dielectric spectroscopy, as well as synchrotron radiation experiments. Key areas covered include polymer science, biological materials, complex fluids and surface science.

Book Giant Molecules

Download or read book Giant Molecules written by A. I?U. Grosberg and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2011 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ?? Giant molecules are important in our everyday life. But, as pointed out by the authors, they are also associated with a culture. What Bach did with the harpsichord, Kuhn and Flory did with polymers. We owe a lot of thanks to those who now make this music accessible ??Pierre-Gilles de GennesNobel Prize laureate in Physics(Foreword for the 1st Edition, March 1996)This book describes the basic facts, concepts and ideas of polymer physics in simple, yet scientifically accurate, terms. In both scientific and historic contexts, the book shows how the subject of polymers is fascinating, as it is behind most of the wonders of living cell machinery as well as most of the newly developed materials. No mathematics is used in the book beyond modest high school algebra and a bit of freshman calculus, yet very sophisticated concepts are introduced and explained, ranging from scaling and reptations to protein folding and evolution. The new edition includes an extended section on polymer preparation methods, discusses knots formed by molecular filaments, and presents new and updated materials on such contemporary topics as single molecule experiments with DNA or polymer properties of proteins and their roles in biological evolution.
