Book Perspectives on Orissa

Download or read book Perspectives on Orissa written by Prafulla Kumar Mohapatra and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Illustrations: 11 B/w Illustrations Description: In keeping with the prime objective of the Centre for Studies in Civilizations, the present volume focuses on Orissa's specific contributions to the multi-cultural, pluralistic spectrum of Indian civilization. In this volume the best brains of Orissa have exposed and analysed the cultural and intellectual history of this ancient state that is rich with exquisite art and architecture of temples and monuments, profound philosophical and religious ideologies, copious literary resources and cultural ambience as well as some unique scientific outlook and technological innovations; music and performing arts like yatra and the dances characteristic of this region form equally significant and typical aspects of this history. In the planning of this volume, meticulous care has been taken to do justice to all these aspects of Orissa's hoary tradition. Accordingly the authors have made extensive coverage of all these diverse areas of the Oriya culture and civilization and have brought to light their linkage to, and influence on, the national mainstream. Also to this purpose they have presented their studies on almost all the prominent thinkers and writers of Orissa--from the ancient through the medieval up to the modern period. The result has been richly rewarding and illuminating. Although the essays have been meticulously edited, the authors' views and judgements on their respective areas of study have been given full freedom in order that they may come up with their best. The book will serve as a useful source material for learning and research on Orissa and its cultural-intellectual tradition.

Book Cyber Worship in Multifaith Perspectives

Download or read book Cyber Worship in Multifaith Perspectives written by Mohamed Taher and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cyber Worship in Multifaith Perspectives, as is implied by its name, explores worship (i.e., Prayer, Praise, Scripture, Sacrament, Rituals, Confessions, Eucharist, Rites, Pilgrimages, Reflection, Contemplation, etc.) on the Internet. It is not an 'everything you need to know' guide about the subjects of faith and belief, religions-online, religions on the Net, or religions in cyberspace. Rather, it is a book about religious and spiritual experience under the rubric, cyber worship, which is the variety of ways religious devotion is performed and carried out on the Internet. The term 'Cyber Worship' is a catchall phrase, which includes variants such as online worship, virtual worship, electronic prayer, cyber puja, cyber synagogue, and so on. Dr. Mohamed Taher has thus assembled a quick reference for two groups: those communities that are involved in Cyber Worship and business Webs that collaborate in sustaining wired environments. As such, this book provides an interesting and current perspective on a practice that will continue to grow in the future.

Book The Coconut Palm Cocos nucifera L Research and Development Perspectives

Download or read book The Coconut Palm Cocos nucifera L Research and Development Perspectives written by V. Krishnakumar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-15 with total page 834 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of "The coconut palm - A monograph" in 1960, considerable information has been accrued on the crop through work at research institutes, international organisations and development agencies. Although coconut cultivation is spread over 93 countries, providing employment and creating livelihood opportunities to 64 million families around the globe, smallholder coconut farmers are now facing numerous challenges. The wide gap between the potential and actual yield is a major concern, and as such it is necessary to disseminate knowledge in order to implement research findings. Coconut research in India, one of the leading coconut producing countries, is celebrating its centenary, making this an opportune time to review the research and development advances and the relevant technologies. This detailed, comprehensive book covers all aspects of coconut, from the origins to cultivation, breeding, physiology and value addition, as well as subjects of topical interest like nutrition and health, biotechnology, and climate change and carbon sequestration. Written by leading experts in the fields it emphasises that the livelihood of the small coconut landholders is the ultimate aim of scientists and developmental agencies, and outlines various important strategies to make coconut farming more remunerative globally. It discusses work in all the major coconut growing countries and outlines suggestions for international cooperation. Research work on the crop is comparatively difficult because of its perennial nature, longevity, height, long juvenile phase, large sized nuts, cross pollination and seed propagation. As these special features necessitate greater investment of resources, time and land, it is all the more imperative that research is not duplicated and the information and experience becoming available around the world is shared so that it can be fully utilised. In this context periodic publications, compiling all the available information on coconut assume greater significance. This book is therefore of great value to researchers, students, extension workers, developmental agencies and progressive farmers.

Download or read book From Obscurity to Light written by Devika Rangachari and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-03-10 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book attempts to reintegrate women into the socio-political milieu of early medieval Orissa. Its sources are inscriptions, mostly Sanskrit, that date from the seventh century to the end of the reign of the Imperial Ganga ruler, Anantavarman Codagangadeva (CE 1078-1147). The evidence indicates that royal and non-royal women had varying but undeniably important roles to play in the socio-political fabric of this prominent regional entity. The Bhauma-Kara dynasty (c. mid-eighth/ninth-late tenth century) that witnessed the rule of six women, four of them in succession, is a case in point. In addition, the palpable presence of several other royal and non-royal women is consistently documented in the epigraphic record. This is an aspect that has received very little attention in secondary works, thereby rendering this study a pioneering one. The work follows on from Rangachari’s earlier Invisible Women, Visible Histories: Gender, Polity and Society in North India (7th to 12th century ad), which had focused on important gendered aspects of early medieval north India through an analysis of literary and epigraphic sources of Kashmir, Kanauj, Bengal and Bihar. The invisibilization of women, whereby their presence is routinely ignored or trivialized, was, similarly, its underlying essence. Please note: This title is co-published with Manohar Publishers, New Delhi. Taylor & Francis does not sell or distribute the Hardback in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka
