This book was released on 2020-07-14 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book updates African maritime economic history to analyse the influence of seaports and seaborne trade, processes of urbanization and development, and the impact of globalization on port evolution within the different regions of Africa. It succeeds the seminal collection edited by Hoyle & Hilling which was conceived during a phase of sustained economic growth on the African continent, and builds on a similar trend where African economies have experienced processes of economic growth and the relative improvement of welfare conditions. It provides valuable insights on port evolution and the way the maritime sector has impacted the hinterland and the regional economic structures of the affected countries, including the several and varied agents involved in these activities. African Seaports and Maritime Economics in Historical Perspective will be useful for economists, historians, and geographers interested in African and maritime issues, as well as policy makers interested in path-dependence and long-term analysis

Download or read book Influence Of Work Automation On Performance Of Nigerian Ports written by Newman Enyioko and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-01-21 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2020 in the subject Transportation Science & Technology, grade: 4.5, , course: Maritime Science // Maritime Transport, language: English, abstract: The study examined the influence of work automation on the performance of Nigeria ports. The study population was the entire sea-ports in Nigeria. In line with the purpose of study, the study adopted the survey/cross sectional approach. The major research instrument used collect data was the questionnaire. Thirty copies of questionnaire were distributed to the respondents from the six major sea-ports in Nigeria. The respondents were department heads and senior port managers. Work automation was used as the independent variable of the study and measures of port performances were productivity and the throughput level of the sea-port. Two hypotheses were developed and tested to determine the extent of the relationship between the study variables. Pearson product moment analysis was used to test the stated hypotheses with the aid of statistical package for the social sciences. The findings of the study revealed that to a very large extent, work automations are often used as key performance indicators (KPI) in Nigeria port. This is true of the system of administration of all port management authority in Nigeria. To a very large extent, the study observed that ports give room for the assessment of work automations. To a very large extent, the respondents were allowed to make variety of inputs on work automations in their various sea-ports. Staff of the ports have the requisite skills to give critical assessment on the issues of work automations. Conclusively, it is evident from the study that there is significant relationship between work automations and productivity in Nigerian ports and there is significant relationship between work automations and cargo throughputs in Nigerian ports. Therefore, port managers should improve on the service quality of their port by recommending improve work automation of the port activities in such a manner that will aid the effective performances of the port operations.

Book Elements of Cabotage Law in Nigeria

Download or read book Elements of Cabotage Law in Nigeria written by Obafemi Ademola Adekola and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-03-07 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thorough examination of the recent economic (mis-)fortunes of Nigeria, the so-called giant of Africa, would reveal the unrealistic economic practice of depending on one major resource to fund the running of government, economic growth, and infrastructural development. This impractical approach to the management of the economy is magnified by the fact that Nigeria, as a country, is put in a precarious situation whenever there is a temporal or permanent price decline in the global crude oil market as this automatically translates to a reduction of the revenue available to government. This work is an attempt to present discussions into developing a Long-term and Strategic Economic Development Module for all regions and government in Nigeria. It is aimed at exposing Nigeria and Nigerians to the numerous benefits accruable in the development of its indigenous maritime economy. An attempt is made here to empirically rationalize the diversification of the Nigerian economy with its recent cabotage policies forming the foundation of an economy that emphasizes on shipping and associated mining and agricultural industries for the majority of its revenue. In order to justify this position, we undertake a careful analysis of the business histories of credible shipping companies like the precolonial Elder Dempster line and also the fast-growing Chinese auto manufacturing industries with a view to magnify their successes worthy of emulation. We have also compared some aspects of the US internal maritime structure with that of Nigeria and have exposed the practice of Japan in developing regions through the establishment of sea ports. It is intended that this book would serve as a personal and patriotic contribution to the Heads of Government as they strategize the reestablishment of Nigeria as the brightest investment destination in the global economic horizon in a bid to spark the recognition of our great nation as an emerging giant in the World Economic Order.

Book Performance Evaluation Of Nigerian Ports Terminal Operations Logistics And Transport 1961 2017

Download or read book Performance Evaluation Of Nigerian Ports Terminal Operations Logistics And Transport 1961 2017 written by Newman Enyioko and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-01-21 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2020 in the subject Business economics - Market research, grade: 4.5, , course: Maritime Science // Maritime Transport, language: English, abstract: This paper x-rayed the performance of the Nigerian ports at terminal operations vis-à-vis logistics/transport activities from 1961-2017. The data on cargo movement were derived from the Nigerian Port Authority Annual Reports. The study relied on descriptive statistics, trend analysis, regression analysis of ordinary least square estimate and port performance indicators such as awaiting berth, at-berth, berth occupancy and throughput in explaining the trend of port performance for the periods under review. The trend analysis employed to explain the trend of cargo movements in all the ports in Nigeria was the Quarterly Moving Averages. It was revealed that the trend of cargo throughput in Nigeria is determined by the inward cargo movement. The analysis also revealed a fluctuation in cargo movement from 1961 to 2005 while the cargo throughput continues to increase unabated from 2006 to 2017. The concession of the port must have been responsible for this upward movement in cargo trend. There was a remarkable increase in inward and outward cargo movement during the post concession era in comparison to the pre-concession era. Conclusively the performance evaluation has revealed that there is no significant relationship between awaiting berth (as a performance indicator in Nigerian ports) and the real gross domestic products in Nigeria; there is no significant relationship between the at-berth (as a performance indicator in Nigerian ports) and the real gross domestic products in Nigeria, there is no significant relationship between the effect of berth occupancy (as a performance indicator in Nigerian ports) and the real gross domestic products in Nigeria and there is no significant relationship between the throughput (as a performance indicator in Nigerian ports) and the real gross domestic products in Nigeria from 2000 to 2017. This paper recommends that government encourages public ownership and private sector operations of the port infrastructure in Nigeria so that the ports can perform optimally.
