Download or read book Zero Point Hubris written by Santiago Castro-Gómez and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-12-16 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Operating within the framework of postcolonial studies and decolonial theory, this important work starts from the assumption that the violence exercised by European colonialism was not only physical and economic, but also ‘epistemic’. Santiago Castro-Gómez argues that toward the end of the eighteenth century, this epistemic violence of the Spanish Empire assumed a specific form: zero-point hubris. The ‘many forms of knowing’ were integrated into a chronological hierarchy in which scientific-enlightened knowledge appears at the highest point on the cognitive scale, while all other epistemes are seen as constituting its past. Enlightened criollo thinkers did not hesitate to situate the Black, Indigenous, and mestizo peoples of New Granada in the lowest position on this cognitive scale. Castro-Gómez argues that in the colonial periphery of the Spanish Americas, Enlightenment constituted not only the position of epistemic distance separating science from all other knowledges, but also the position of ethnic distance separating the criollos from the ‘castes’. Epistemic violence—and not only physical violence—is thereby found at the very origin of Colombian nationality.

Chapters adopt long-run perspectives on the development of the Brazilian welfare state, limits and opportunities for emancipation in the labor market, the scope and depth of social policies such as "Bolsa Família" and Rio’s Peacemaking Police Units (UPP), social movements - in particular, the Movement of the Landless (MST) - cultural policies at the federal level, the role of media in the country’s democratization project, and how two important commodities (sugar and oil) shape the identities of blacks and whites in Bahia. Book Epistemolog a de Las Ciencias Sociales Y Pol ticas

Download or read book Epistemolog a de Las Ciencias Sociales Y Pol ticas written by Samuel Tovar Ruiz and published by Ewe Editorial Acad MIA Espa Ola. This book was released on 2012-04 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Mente territorio y sociedad

Download or read book Mente territorio y sociedad written by Josep Muntañola i Thornberg and published by ESIC. This book was released on 2010-04-19 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2021-03-25 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Rethinking Latin American Social Movements

Download or read book Rethinking Latin American Social Movements written by Richard Stahler-Sholk and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-11-25 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking text explores the dramatic evolution in Latin American social movements over the past fifteen years. Leading scholars examine a variety of cases that highlight significant shifts in the region. First is the breakdown of the Washington Consensus and the global economic crisis since 2008, accompanied by the rise of new paradigms such as buen vivir (living well). Second are transformations in internal movement dynamics and strategies, especially the growth of horizontalism (horizontalidad), which emphasizes non-hierarchical relations within society rather than directly tackling state power. Third are new dynamics of resistance and repression as movements interact with the “pink tide” rise of left-of-center governments in the region. Exploring outcomes and future directions, the contributors consider the variations between movements arising from immediate circumstances (such as Oaxaca’s 2006 uprising and Brazil’s 2013 bus fare protests) and longer-lasting movements (Vía Campesina, Brazil’s MST, and Mexico’s Zapatistas). Assessing both the continuities in social movement dynamics and important new tendencies, this book will be essential reading for all students of Latin American politics and society. Book El orden social en la posmodernidad

Download or read book El orden social en la posmodernidad written by Enrique Carretero Pasín and published by Erasmus Ediciones. This book was released on 2012-03-28 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ESTE LIBRO EXPLICA CON PROSA CLARA CÓMO SE LEGITIMA HOY EL ORDEN SOCIAL Y ARROJA UNA MIRADA INNOVADORA PARA ENTENDER LAS IDEOLOGÍAS EN LA SOCIEDAD ACTUAL.
