The nutritional approach depends on the stage of renal disease, patients’ comorbidities, proteins catabolism, and the presence of malnutrition. The gradual and progressive worsening of kidney function, characterized by a reduced glomerular filtration rate, carries many challenges for both young and elderly patients. Dietetic-Nutritional therapy (DTN) has an important role in the prevention and in the progression of Chronic Kidney Disease. An appropriate nutritional approach contributes to the prevention and control of signs, symptoms, and metabolic complications of CKD such as hyperkalemia, hyperphosphatemia, and metabolic acidosis. It also helps avoid and malnutrition and protein energy wasting (PEW). Several dietary approaches have been proposed but the most successful nutritional regimen is the one tailored on patients’ needs. This Research Topic is open for original articles, narrative review, systematic review, and meta-analysis focusing on personalized nutrition in patients with CKD on both conservative and replacement treatments. Suggested topics relating to renal nutrition and chronic kidney disease may include, but are not limited to: • Use of amino acids or keto-analogues supplementation in CKD patients in conservative therapy or in dialysis; • Strategies to improve dietary adherence; • Psychological aspects of nutritional adherence; • Nutritional indications in inflamed CKD patients; • Interaction between diet, microbiota, and comorbidities; • Personalized nutritional counseling; • Strategies to avoid malnutrition and PEW.
