Book DEPTH PERCEPTION WITH RELATION TO PERSONALITY INTELLIGENCE OF PLAYERS

Download or read book DEPTH PERCEPTION WITH RELATION TO PERSONALITY INTELLIGENCE OF PLAYERS written by Dr. Durgeshnandini R. Titarmare and published by Ashok Yakkaldevi. This book was released on 2020-10-14 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Depth perception refers to the ability to distinguish the distance of objects or to make judgments about relative distance. This capacity also called distance perception, adds the third dimension to height and width. Binocular vision (simultaneous vision with both eyes) is the primary basis for depth perception. The two eyes focus on an object from depth in one’s perception. Monocular vision (seeing with one eye) tends to flatten things in the distance. In motor activities, there are many opportunities for making judgments about the distance of people or objects. For example, the passer in football needs to determine with considerable accuracy the distance of his receivers and his opponents. Similarly the receiver must be able at all times to make an accurate judgment about the distance of the thrown ball. The golfer on the fairway must make an accurate estimate of the distance of the pin so that he can determine which club to select and how hard to swing. The high jumper, pole vaulter, or broad jumper in track needs to make an accurate estimation of the distance to the take-off point. Or he will be required to make a last second adjustment in stride. A misjudged fly ball in baseball results from a poor estimation of the distance and speed of the ball. The batter with poor depth perception is most susceptible to a change-up pitch. In most motor activities, and especially in ball games, the ability to distinguish distances is strategic to efficient performance.

Book Hockey Players Personality

Download or read book Hockey Players Personality written by M. Gordon Hunter and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2021-04-21 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A great deal of research has been done on the quantitative indicators used in hockey player evaluation, but for the most part, the analysis of qualitative factors has been elusive. Until this book. Hockey Players' Personality Contribution to Team Performance examines many of the statistical tools and quantitative measures used to assess hockey players—such as goals, assists, and save percentages—and then moves beyond this with new research to help measure a player’s qualitative characteristics—or “spirit”—with an objective, scientific approach. Based on extensive interviews and research with both Canadian and Swiss hockey players, Hunter reveals six key themes or characteristics that contribute to a hockey player’s success as a “team” or “character” player—including what happens during a stoppage in play, on the bench, or in the dressing room. From these, he then offers a Player Assessment Form as a practical tool for hockey coaches, scouts, and team assistants (as well as for coaches in other team sports) to measure players’ characteristics and strengths that have previously been hard to evaluate. Informative and innovative, Hockey Player Contribution to Team Performance will appeal to all with an interest in the science of sports statistics and evaluation.

Book Investigating the Relationship Between Personality Traits and Athletic Performance Among Elite Hockey Players

Download or read book Investigating the Relationship Between Personality Traits and Athletic Performance Among Elite Hockey Players written by Brittney H. Conway and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "An interesting trend in the personality literature has been the assessment of the relationship between personality traits and athletic performances. In non-sport settings, the conscientiousness trait has been found to be strongly related to a number of good outcomes including job and training proficiency, academic performances, and physical activity (Barrick & Mout, 1991; Poropat, 2009; Rhodes & Smith, 2006). In the athletic setting, similar findings have been found with soccer players (Piedmont, Hill, & Blanco, 1999), football players (Tran, 2012) and Division 1 collegiate athletes (Saale-Prasad, 2014). However, in professional hockey these findings have generally not been replicated (Karp, 2000; Cameron, Cameron, Dithurbide & Lalonde, 2006; Man & Wohl, 1985). Thus, the purpose of this study was to further investigate the relationship between personality and a variety of indicators of hockey performances. The sample was comprised of 27 male hockey players from a major junior team in the Pacific Northwest. Participant ages ranged from 15 years old to 20 years old (mean age=18 years old). Personality was assessed using the Big Five Inventory (BFI; John & Srivastava, 1999). The BFI is a validated and reliable instrument that categorizes personality into five dimensions --extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness to experience (John & Srivastava, 1999). Findings suggest a subtle link between personality and hockey performance. Directions for future research is discussed"--Leaf iv.
