Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assessments by psychologists, educators, and other human-service professionals too often end with the client being reported in terms of scores, bell-shaped curves, traits, psychodynamic forces, or diagnostic labels. Individualizing Psychological Assessment uses these classification devices in ways that facilitate returning from them to the individual's life, both during the assessment session and in written reports. The book presents an approach and procedures through which a person's actual life becomes the subject matter of assessment. Thoroughly revised from the previous edition, the book presents a wide range of concrete examples and illustrative cases that will serve both students and practicing professionals alike in individualizing assessments.

Download or read book The Inter Processual Self written by Kleio Akrivou and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-01-17 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How should we understand the self, as well as personal, relational and systemic growth? This volume proposes a radical new way of answering this question. It rests on a non-representational theory of knowledge on how to approach and understand the self and action more broadly. Although it has never been lost, the Aristotelian emphasis on excellence in moral character and practical reason as preconditions for achieving happiness has gradually been degraded. This book suggests that this has happened thanks to a split between knowledge and action that can be traced back to the origins of modernity. Modern academic disciplines in general, and psychology in particular, are based on the idealisation of theoretical, hypothetical and abstract reason, suggesting that this morally neutral ideal must guide human action. This volume systematically integrates those domains in a more profound and meaningful proposal, relevant for current times and challenges. Based on previous research bridging philosophy, psychology and neuroscience, the contributors here identify two alternative paradigms for conceiving of the self and human development: the so-called “autonomous self” (AS) and the “inter-processual self” (IPS). The book considers the person as an ethical being and as the foundational cornerstone of a new theory of self, action and knowing that achieves decisive distance from modern theory’s limitations. To keep on-going dialogue on human development open, the authors introduce a new theoretical model (IPS) which can be scientifically measured and tested; they also suggest its further application in concrete, practical realms, thus touching on how the adoption of the IPS paradigm inspires a renewed view of human cognition, education, governance, and business management.

Download or read book Ego in Psychology written by Prof. Dr. Bilal Semih Bozdemir and published by Prof. Dr. Bilal Semih Bozdemir. This book was released on with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ramifications of these psychological distortions can be particularly pronounced during organizational change or crisis. During such periods, individuals may feel threatened and respond with denial, blocking out information that suggests their roles or the organization may be at risk. This resistance can proliferate at various organizational levels, leading to misinformation and, in some cases, outright sabotage of change efforts. For example, when an organization announces a restructuring process, employees may downplay or deny their involvement or the necessity for changes, thereby complicating the execution and acceptance of the initiative. Projection can further complicate these dynamics. In times of uncertainty, team members may unconsciously project their anxiety and fears onto their colleagues, fostering distrust or competition rather than collaboration. For instance, if a project manager feels insecure about their leadership capabilities, they might project this insecurity onto their team, questioning their commitment or competence. Such behaviors not only strain working relationships but also distract from the shared goals and objectives that are crucial for organizational success. The intertwining of denial and projection can also obscure the development of a healthy feedback culture. In an environment where negative feedback is met with denial or hardship, employees may refrain from voicing concerns or suggestions. When feedback loops are stymied, opportunities for learning and improvement are lost, further entrenching inefficiencies. A leader who cannot accept constructive criticism may inadvertently cultivate a culture where team members fear reprisal for expressing dissenting views.

Download or read book Psychoanalysis and Projective Methods in Personality Assessment written by Benoît Verdon and published by Hogrefe Publishing GmbH. This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book synthesizes the work of leading thinkers of the French School of psychoanalytical projective methods in personality assessment. The French School is a direct successor to Rorschach's and Murray's original approaches using the Rorschach Test and the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT). Underlying this method is the idea of the coexistence of conscious and unconscious processes, of opposite instinctual pairs, and of agents that are ruled by conflicts (Freud). Transitional activity is seen as part of an intermediate space, a mediator space, and bearer of messages between the subject and the clinician (Winnicott). This book brings to life the important contributions of the French School, firstly exploring its theories and methods and then its clinical applications. Detailed case studies from different stages of life examine the psychopathology of everyday life with its severe and disabling states of suffering. Contemporary advances in research and clinical work are presented, and the groundbreaking early work of Nina Rausch de Traubenberg, Vica Shentoub, and Rosine Debray are also critically reread and discussed. Clinical tools adapted for clinicians and researchers in the appendices include a useful schema to facilitate the interpretation of the Rorschach and TAT together, a list of latent solicitations for the TAT, and the current version of the TAT Scoring Grid. This book is essential reading for clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, researchers, and students interested in applying psychoanalytical theory to projective methods.
Download or read book written by Harry Anastasiou and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2006-08-01 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harry Anastasiou, peace scholar, practitioner and educator, takes the struggle for peace and reconciliation in his native Cyprus as a model for understanding the belligerent nature of ethno-centric nationalism everywhere. From the vantage point of Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution theory and practice, Anastasiou's analysis offers uncharted new insights and a fresh perspective on the protracted nature of the Cyprus conflict, the causes of the long rivalry between Greece and Turkey, and the tangible prospects for peace within the conciliatory framework of the European Union. Drawing from a variety of academic disciplines, and synthesizing a broad array of historical, political and cultural phenomena, Anastasiou's work presents an understanding of the Cyprus conflict that is both challenging and indispensable for the quest for peace in the Eastern Mediterranean region. In its non-partisan and highly interdisciplinary approach, the work marks a unique and significant contribution to scholarship in the field of Peace and Conflict Studies and the Cyprus problem. Its clear and methodical analysis makes the complex problems it addresses academically intelligible and pedagogically accessible to university students and interested citizens. Anastasiou's work is an engaging encounter with the phenomenon of ethno-centric nationalism, as well as a provocative educational venture in inter-ethnic peace and reconciliation.
Download or read book Schizophrenic Disorders written by Leighton C. Whitaker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No diagnosis of mental disorder is more important or more disputable than that of "schizophrenia." The 1982 case of John Hinckley, who shot President Reagan, brought both aspects of this diagnostic dilemma to the forefront of national attention. It became evident to the general public that the experts engaged to study him exhaustively could not agree on whether Hinckley was schizophrenic. General public outrage ensued, as schizophrenia, "the sacred symbol of psychiatry," in the words of Thomas Szasz (1976), emerged as a king of Alice in Wonderland travesty. Schizo phrenia seemed not to be a legitimate diagnostic entity but some sort of facade erected to protect the guilty. In 1973, David Rosenhan had already shown the readers of Science that schizo phrenia was a label that could be given to normal people presenting with a supposed auditory hallucination on even one occasion. In Rosenhan's studies, mental health professionals were outclassed by the regular psychiatric hospital patients, who cor rectly saw the false schizophrenics as imposters while the professional diagnosticians continued to fool themselves.
Download or read book Personal Injury and Damage Ascertainment under Civil Law written by Santo Davide Ferrara and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-06 with total page 709 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume serves to provide an international overview of personal injury compensation in different geographical areas (15 countries already included), with a special focus on the methods used to ascertain the injury and the related damages. It also goes on to clarify the logical and methodological steps required for a sequential, in-depth ascertainment of any traumatic event and the related personal damage, both pecuniary and non-pecuniary. Personal injury is a legal term for an injury to the body, mind or emotions suffered by the plaintiff under tort and/or civil law regulations. Damages related to the injury can be pecuniary or non-pecuniary in nature. Although several comparative studies and research projects on tort and civil law and personal injury claims aimed at developing new tools for promoting harmonization of private law have been performed at an international level, heterogeneity and divergences still exist in the definition and compensation of personal injury and damage across different national legislative systems. The starting point for any awarding procedure should be a medical, or rather a medico-legal, assessment to gain evidence on the trauma or event causing the injury, the mechanism of injury, the pre-existing health status of the injured party, and the health consequences of the injury (temporary and permanent impairment, work incapacity, etc.). In order to pursue the ultimate goal of an international harmonization of personal injury compensation, it is of upmost importance to define the quality requirements for the medico-legal ascertainment methodology, which are essential for guaranteeing the objectivity, rigor, and reproducibility of the data and the evidence collection procedure. Currently, there are no supra-national medico-legal guidelines dealing with the ascertainment methodology of personal injury and damage under tort and civil law.
