Book Personal Confessions from the Psalms

Download or read book Personal Confessions from the Psalms written by Jeff Doles and published by Walking Barefoot Ministries. This book was released on 2012 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: RENEW YOUR HEART TO THE RHYTHMS OF GOD! The psalms of the Bible are powerful expressions of the heart of faith in covenant with God, and of the heart of God in covenant with His people. Confessing the psalms is simply speaking in agreement with them, and is a great way to meditate on, personalize and instruct your soul with the truths and promises they bring. The personal confessions in this book are adapted from the psalms. They are defibrillations to shift your heart into the rhythms of faith, to recalibrate your thoughts and emotions with the promises of God and realign your will with the heart of God. But don't just read them. Find a place where you can say them out loud and maybe even shout them out with passion. Let them go up with a whoop and a holler to God, with the velocity of faith, and watch what happens in your heart and in your life. Samples O the Happiness! ~ from Psalm 1 O the happiness! I do not walk in the counsel of those who are ungodly; I do not seek out or follow their advice. I do not stand in the path with those who purpose to do what is wrong. I do not sit with those who mock what is good. But my delight is in the instruction of Yahweh, I think about it all the time. So I am like a tree planted by rivers of water, Established, well-rooted, well-fed, That bears its fruit abundantly in its season; And its leaf does not wither. Whatever I do prospers. The judgment of Yahweh is for me, not against me. I stand with the people who stand in awe of Him, And Yahweh watches over my path. O the happiness! My King ~ from Psalm 5 Yahweh is my King and my God. To Him I will pray. In the morning, He hears my voice. In the morning, I lay my requests before Him I wait and I watch And I look to Him in expectation. By His great mercy, I come before Him. I bow down and worship Him, As His holy temple, in whom He dwells.* He leads me in all that is right And He straightens out my path before me. My heart is light because I trust in Him. I shout wildly because He defends me. I jump for joy because I love His name. For Yahweh blesses those who are right with Him, He surrounds them with His favor. He surrounds me with His favor, All around me, as with a shield. Book The Case for the Psalms

Download or read book The Case for the Psalms written by N. T. Wright and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Widely regarded as the modern C. S. Lewis, N. T. Wright, one of the world’s most trusted and popular Bible scholars and the bestselling author of Simply Christian and Surprised by Hope, presents a manifesto urging Christians to live and pray the Bible’s Psalms in The Case for the Psalms. Wright seeks to reclaim the power of the Psalms, which were once at the core of prayer life. He argues that, by praying and living the Psalms, we enter into a worldview, a way of communing with God and knowing him more intimately, and receive a map by which we understand the contours and direction of our lives. For this reason, all Christians need to read, pray, sing, and live the Psalms. By providing the historical, literary, and spiritual contexts for reading these hymns from ancient Israel’s songbook, The Case for the Psalms provides the tools for incorporating these divine poems into our sacred practices and into our spirituality itself.

Book excerpt: New York Times bestseller What is Jesus worth to you? It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily... But who do you know who lives like that? Do you? In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple--then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a "successful" suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus. Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment -- a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.

Book Celebration of Discipline

Download or read book Celebration of Discipline written by Richard J. Foster and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 1988-10-05 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the twenty years since its publication, Celebration of Discipline has helped over a million seekers discover a richer spiritual life infused with joy, peace, and a deeper understanding of God. For this special twentieth anniversary edition, Richard J. Foster has added an introduction, in which he shares the story of how this beloved and enduring spiritual guidebook came to be. Hailed by many as the best modern book on Christian spirituality, Celebration of Discipline explores the "classic Disciplines," or central spiritual practices, of the Christian faith. Along the way, Foster shows that it is only by and through these practices that the true path to spiritual growth can be found. Dividing the Disciplines into three movements of the Spirit, Foster shows how each of these areas contribute to a balanced spiritual life. The inward Disciplines of meditation, prayer, fasting, and study, offer avenues of personal examination and change. The outward Disciplines of simplicity, solitude, submission, and service, help prepare us to make the world a better place. The corporate Disciplines of confession, worship, guidance, and celebration, bring us nearer to one another and to God. Foster provides a wealth of examples demonstrating how these Disciplines can become part of our daily activities-and how they can help us shed our superficial habits and "bring the abundance of God into our lives." He offers crucial new insights on simplicity, demonstrating how the biblical view of simplicity, properly understood and applied, brings joy and balance to our inward and outward lives and "sets us free to enjoy the provision of God as a gift that can be shared with others." The discussion of celebration, often the most neglected of the Disciplines, shows its critical importance, for it stands at the heart of the way to Christ. Celebration of Discipline will help motivate Christians everywhere to embark on a journey of prayer and spiritual growth.

Book excerpt: In a world fraught with evil, encroaching darkness, violence, strife, confusion, attacks on families, failing finances, and health, distractions and emotional instability, mans usual reaction is that of despondency and negative proclamations. In the beginning, when God saw the darkness that covered the face of the earth, He decreed what He wanted to see rather than agree with what He saw. Since we are made in His image, rather than confessing the problem (darkness) we are to confess the solution (the WORD) thereby transforming darkness to light. (Rom 10:10) For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Believing and confessing are an important part of our Christian walk. What becomes manifest in our lives depends on our faith and confession. When our lips contradicts the word of God, we prevent His work in and through us, but when we get our hearts and lips in line with His word, He manifests His grace in us and His power flows through us. Godfessions is the first of four compilations of inspired confessions of Gods promises. This book will help you cultivate an awareness of your spiritual blessings and the limitless power of God as well as enable you grow stronger in your faith, as you establish the truth of Gods word over you and your household through your declarations. Start Godfessing! Your Change is here!

That means they're the kind of lives God gets excited about. While the world worships beauty and power and wealth, God hides his glory in the simple, the mundane, the foolish, working in unawesome people, things, and places. In our day of celebrity worship and online posturing, this is a refreshing, even transformative way of understanding God and our place in his creation. It urges us to treasure a life of simplicity, to love those whom the world passes by, to work for God's glory rather than our own. And it demonstrates that God has always been the Lord of the cross--a Savior who hides his grace in unattractive, inglorious places.Your God Is Too Glorious reminds readers that while a quiet life may look unimpressive to the world, it's the regular, everyday people that God tends to use to do his most important work.
