Download or read book An Iranian Mosaic written by Jennifer Cook and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2003-06-11 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Iranian Mosaic follows the lives and the friendship of three different families. The book is divided into three parts: the nineteen fifties, sixties and seventies. The story begins in May 1955, in Tehran, when the Jarari family is attacked because they are Baha'i's, a religious minority group in Iran. It is decided that Husayn, 12, and Elahe, 11, will go to Manchester, England to stay with the Townsend family, and attend school with Elizabeth, 14 and Thomas, 12. It is very exciting and very scary for them to be so far from home. The story follows the lives of the four children in England, and back to a summer adventure in Iran. It then follows them to university in Geneva, Switzerland, where they become involved in communist intrigue. In the third part, they are adults back in Tehran and the story follows their children, Rory, Sarah and Caspian. Tehran is in turmoil. The Shah and Shahbanu leave the country to go into exile, and the Ayatollah Khomeini returns to lead the revolution.

Book A Parametric Approach to Persian Syntax

Download or read book A Parametric Approach to Persian Syntax written by A. Soheili and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2024-10-03 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Persian syntax has been analyzed within various theoretical models to explore language specific rules that generate various syntactic structures such as passive, relative clause, interrogative, etc. This book offers a comprehensive, updated delineation of Persian syntax with reference to the P&P approach, which posits that the language faculty incorporates a set of principles of Universal Grammar (UG) that are invariant across languages and their associated parameters that vary from one language to another. In addition to the theoretical dimension of the approach, the book also examines the significant implications of the approach in the realms of first language acquisition, second language learning, translation, and language typology.

Book Reflections on Persian Grammar

Download or read book Reflections on Persian Grammar written by Abe Soheili and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-08-21 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first authoritative survey of the historical developments of Persian grammar, from the first attested work some 200 years ago to the present day. It examines the development of Persian linguistic thought in five different periods, and analyses the underlying assumptions of the grammars belonging to each period in light of contemporary ideas on the nature of grammar and new frameworks for grammatical analysis. This historical survey shows the profound influence of Arabic and Western linguistic thinking on the development of Persian grammar, as well as a dramatic shift of perspective from a traditional grammatical analysis to new and divergent procedures adopted by more recent schools of linguistics. The end result of this transition has culminated in less reliance on foreign influence and the emergence of more self-motivated, independent researchers in the uncharted territory of Persian grammar and its sub-components. The two comprehensive Persian and English glossaries at the end of the book will enable readers to better understand the grammatical concepts covered here.

Book Art in the Era of Alexander the Great

Download or read book Art in the Era of Alexander the Great written by Ada Cohen and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-08-30 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In her pursuit of metaphorical, transhistorical imagery, representing men as predators and women as their victims over the centuries, Cohen (Dartmouth) lays out a vast network of interpretive associations that have neither cultural nor chronological limits. Developing her analysis of three late-fourth-century BCE Macedonian monumental themes--the abduction of Helen, the lion hunt, and war--Cohen puts them into a context of large significance through her creation of an ingenious, erudite, and extended repertory of analogous images, accompanied by well-selected exempla. Her proposed network traces patterns established by anthropological perspectives of masculinity and its association with aggressive violence and by principles of feminist ideology, partly derived from Judith Butler. The book's introduction and many subsequent methodological digressions set out the conceptual lines of her approach, as do paradigmatic chapter headings, e.g., "War as Hunt: Hunt as War?" "Rape as Hunt: Hunt as Rape?" and "Rape as War: War as Rape?" Provocative indeed, her categories of enduring imagery challenge traditional views of ancient art in ways both beneficial and problematic, viz., her remark "Ovid, the premier Freudian thinker of the Roman World." Whether modern conceptions of sexuality and the struggles of contrasting genders pertain to antiquity remains as an acknowledged issue. Summing Up: Recommended. Graduate students through faculty/researchers. Graduate Students; Researchers/Faculty. Reviewed by R. Brilliant.

Book Geometry Creation and Import With COMSOL Multiphysics

Download or read book Geometry Creation and Import With COMSOL Multiphysics written by Layla S. Mayboudi and published by Mercury Learning and Information. This book was released on 2019-09-20 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the geometry creation techniques for use in finite element analysis. Examples are provided as a sequence of fin designs with progressively increasing complexity. A fin was selected as it is a feature widely employed for thermal management. As the content progresses, the reader learns to create or import a geometry into a FEM tool using COMSOL Multiphysics®. The fundamentals may also be applied to other commercial packages such as ANSYS® or AbaqusTM. The content can be utilized in a variety of engineering disciplines including mechanical, aerospace, biomedical, chemical, civil, and electrical. The book provides an overview of the tools available to create and interact with the geometry. It also takes a broader look on the world of geometry, showing how geometry is a fundamental part of nature and how it is interconnected with the world around us. Features: Includes example models that enable the reader to implement conceptual material in practical scenarios with broad industrial applications Provides geometry modeling examples created with built in features of COMSOL Multiphysics® v. 5.4 or imported from other dedicated CAD tools Presents meshing examples and provides practical advice on mesh generation Includes companion files with models and custom applications created with COMSOL Multiphysics® Application Builder.
