Book Permit Writer s Guide to Test Burn Data

Download or read book Permit Writer s Guide to Test Burn Data written by and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Center for Environmental Research Information has preparedthis test burn data book for use i the permitting and testing of hazardous waste incinerators regulated under the Resouce Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The test results summarized represent hazardous waste test burns conducted at 23 full-scale stationary incinerators in the United States. nine of these tests were designed and conducted by EPA and its contractors as part of EPA's Regulatory Impact Analysis of the RCRA incinerator regulations. The others were conducted separately and individually by private industrial concerns and their contractors as part of their Part B application requirements for obtaining full operating permits under RCRA. In addition to the incinerator data, this book also presents results of tests at 11 lime, cement, and aggregate kilns and 11 industrial boilers. The EPA Hazardous Waste Engineering Research Laboratory conducted most of these tests as part of an overall research program aimed at determining the efficiency of these thermal unites for cofiring (and thereby destroying) hazardous wastes as fuel supplements or replacements. This is the first itme a data book containing results from a wide variety of combustion tests has been assembled. The book is intended to be used as a data source for reference purposes in developing and reviewing trial burn plans. It should be used in conjunction with other EPA guidance documents on hazardous waste incineration, such as the EPA Engineering Handbook for Hazardous Waste Incineration (EPA-SW-889) and the EPA Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Incinerator Permits (EPA-SW-966). The user is cautioned to exercise professional judgment when using the data in this document. Some of the data are of questionable value, and accordingly, every effort has been made to identify or flag such information. The user is also cautioned to critically evaluate the procedures and methodologies used to generate the data in this document, and to design future trial test burns in accordance with current guidance. Finally, since the data for this document was assembled in 1985, the results of several additional incinerator trial burns have been reported to various EPA Regions and authorized States. Thus, additional data are available for expansion of this data base, if desired. EPA Regional and State RCRA permit writers should be contacted for details of these more recent test burns.

Book Handbook of Incineration of Hazardous Wastes 1991

Download or read book Handbook of Incineration of Hazardous Wastes 1991 written by William S. Rickman and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 852 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hazardous waste incineration technologies have been developed to meet the needs of a rapidly growing market that has been created by the proliferation of hazardous waste in modern society. These hazardous wastes are continuously produced as by-products of many industries. Vast stockpiles of hazardous or toxic wastes are currently residing in insecure landfills, thus imperiling our drinking water supplies. This handbook is written with the user in mind. An in-depth review of regulatory and technical requirements is presented with later sections regarding permitting and operation of incineration facilities. A comprehensive description of established and emerging incinerator technologies is included along with a number of alternatives. One of the key sections involves a detailed procedure for choosing an incinerator for a specific job, including engineering calculations and going through the bid process. Rationale for whether to buy or lease incineration equipment is included as well as details on trial burns, permitting strategies, and startup and operation of incinerators. A number of typical case histories of incinerators are presented for such diverse applications as cleaning up individual sites with transportable units, stationary facilities for in-house wastes, and incinerator ships. Appendices provide a convenient reference to physical properties, combustion parameters, detailed equipment performance nomographs and several sample permits including RCRA, TSCA and local permit applications. In summary, this handbook provides a single reference point for the potential user of an incinerator as well as a valuable source of design data for incinerator vendors, consultants and regulators.

Book Hazardous Waste Incineration

Download or read book Hazardous Waste Incineration written by Stephen M. Roberts and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-11-19 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Incineration: no other form of hazardous waste disposal has matched its efficiency at volume reduction, and the permanent destruction of organic wastes. That convenience may come at a price, as questions and concerns continue to surround the potential human health impacts and ecosystem effects allegedly caused by incineration. Hazardous Waste Incineration: Evaluating the Human Health and Environmental Risks addresses those concerns by summarizing recent research. Commissioned in part by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, this volume compiles reports and observations from specialists throughout the United States. Fourteen chapters respond to the key questions posed by the researchers: What is known about existing hazardous waste incinerators, and their impacts on human health? Can the impacts of a proposed facility be evaluated before it is built, and if so, how? What is the regulatory compliance record of existing commercial hazardous waste incinerators? What methods can be used to monitor a facility's impacts after it is built? Their response: the most complete treatment of the subject-a timely and controversial topic.
