Book Atomic Structure and Periodicity

Download or read book Atomic Structure and Periodicity written by Jack Barrett and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2002 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents basic atomic theory as given in first and second year courses at university. It demonstrates that the structure of the Periodic Table as we know it is based on sound principles. Throughout the book, theoretical concepts are presented, along with the experimental evidence for them. Foundations are laid in the introductory chapter, which deals with fundamental particles, electromagnetic radiation and Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. Atomic orbitals are then described, using a minimum of mathematics, followed by a discussion of the electron configurations of the elements. Further chapters reveal the relationships between the electronic configurations of the elements and some properties of their atoms; and the variations in the properties of their fluorides and oxides across the periods and down the groups of the Periodic Table. Ideal for the needs of undergraduate chemistry students, Tutorial Chemistry Texts is a major new series consisting of short, single topic or modular texts concentrating on the fundamental areas of chemistry taught in undergraduate science courses. Each book provides a concise account of the basic principles underlying a given subject, embodying an independent-learning philosophy and including worked examples.

Book Preliminary Analysis of Regional precipitation Periodicity

Download or read book Preliminary Analysis of Regional precipitation Periodicity written by Charles A. Perry and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Precipitation variability plays a major role in nearly every aspect of the hydrologic cycle. Precipitation is not a random event, but it occurs after a sequence of prerequisites has been fulfilled. Recent investigations have shown that activity of the sun can affect atmospheric vorticity, an important factor in precipitation formation. Solar activity is known to be periodic; therefore, through a complex series of physical processes, precipitation variance is solar forced to a certain degree. A preliminary analysis of precipitation periodicity was made for eight regions scattered across the central United States. Each region contained 5 to 10 stations with long-term precipitation records that were averaged to obtain yearly regional-precipitation values. Graphic analysis shows 11-year and 22-year cycles that are nearly in phase with the solar cycles. An example of the effect of cyclic precipitation is presented for the Powder River basin in Wyoming and Montana. A cycle of 22 years exhibits fluctuations of approximately 22 to 27% for precipitation and 38 to 50% for runoff. A more detailed study that investigates solar-forced precipitation cycles and their relationship to hydrologic processes is needed.

Book Nilpotence and Periodicity in Stable Homotopy Theory

Download or read book Nilpotence and Periodicity in Stable Homotopy Theory written by Douglas C. Ravenel and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 1992-11-08 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nilpotence and Periodicity in Stable Homotopy Theory describes some major advances made in algebraic topology in recent years, centering on the nilpotence and periodicity theorems, which were conjectured by the author in 1977 and proved by Devinatz, Hopkins, and Smith in 1985. During the last ten years a number of significant advances have been made in homotopy theory, and this book fills a real need for an up-to-date text on that topic. Ravenel's first few chapters are written with a general mathematical audience in mind. They survey both the ideas that lead up to the theorems and their applications to homotopy theory. The book begins with some elementary concepts of homotopy theory that are needed to state the problem. This includes such notions as homotopy, homotopy equivalence, CW-complex, and suspension. Next the machinery of complex cobordism, Morava K-theory, and formal group laws in characteristic p are introduced. The latter portion of the book provides specialists with a coherent and rigorous account of the proofs. It includes hitherto unpublished material on the smash product and chromatic convergence theorems and on modular representations of the symmetric group.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A COMPANION TO THE HISTORY OF THE BOOK A COMPANION TO THE HISTORY OF THE BOOK Edited by Simon Eliot and Jonathan Rose “As a stimulating overview of the multidimensional present state of the field, the Companion has no peer.” Choice “If you want to understand how cultures come into being, endure, and change, then you need to come to terms with the rich and often surprising history Of the book ... Eliot and Rose have done a fine job. Their volume can be heartily recommended. “ Adrian Johns, Technology and Culture From the early Sumerian clay tablet through to the emergence of the electronic text, this Companion provides a continuous and coherent account of the history of the book. A team of expert contributors draws on the latest research in order to offer a cogent, transcontinental narrative. Many of them use illustrative examples and case studies of well-known texts, conveying the excitement surrounding this rapidly developing field. The Companion is organized around four distinct approaches to the history of the book. First, it introduces the variety of methods used by book historians and allied specialists, from the long-established discipline of bibliography to newer IT-based approaches. Next, it provides a broad chronological survey of the forms and content of texts. The third section situates the book in the context of text culture as a whole, while the final section addresses broader issues, such as literacy, copyright, and the future of the book. Book Studies in the Psychology of Sex I The Evolution ual Periodicity and Auto Erotism

Download or read book Studies in the Psychology of Sex I The Evolution ual Periodicity and Auto Erotism written by Havelock Ellis and published by anboco. This book was released on 2016-08-28 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The origin of these Studies dates from many years back. As a youth I was faced, as others are, by the problem of sex. Living partly in an Australian city where the ways of life were plainly seen, partly in the solitude of the bush, I was free both to contemplate and to meditate many things. A resolve slowly grew up within me: one main part of my life-work should be to make clear the problems of sex. That was more than twenty years ago. Since then I can honestly say that in all that I have done that resolve has never been very far from my thoughts. I have always been slowly working up to this central problem; and in a book published some three years ago—Man and Woman: a Study of Human Secondary Sexual Characters—I put forward what was, in my own eyes, an introduction to the study of the primary questions of sexual psychology. Now that I have at length reached the time for beginning to publish my results, these results scarcely seem to me large. As a youth, I had hoped to settle problems for those who came after; now I am quietly content if I do little more than state them. For even that, I now think, is much; it is at least the half of knowledge. In this particular field the evil of ignorance is magnified by our efforts to suppress that which never can be suppressed, though in the effort of suppression it may become perverted. I have at least tried to find out what are the facts, among normal people as well as among abnormal people; for, while it seems to me that the physician's training is necessary in order to ascertain the facts, the physician for the most part only obtains the abnormal facts, which alone bring little light. I have tried to get at the facts, and, having got at the facts, to look them simply and squarely in the face. If I cannot perhaps turn the lock myself, I bring the key which can alone in the end rightly open the door: the key of sincerity. That is my one panacea: sincerity.

Book The Special Data Dissemination Standard

Download or read book The Special Data Dissemination Standard written by International Monetary Fund. Statistics Dept. and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2013-12-17 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) launched the data standards initiatives to enhance member countries’ data transparency and to promote their development of sound statistical systems. The need for data standards was highlighted by the financial crises of the mid-1990s, in which information deficiencies were seen to play a role. Under the data standards initiatives, the IMF established the Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS) in 1996 to provide guidance to countries that have or seek access to capital markets to disseminate key data so that users in general, and financial market participants in particular, have adequate information to assess the economic situations of individual countries. The SDDS not only prescribes that subscribers disseminate certain data categories, but also prescribes that subscribers disseminate the relevant metadata to promote public knowledge and understanding of their compilation practices with respect to the required data categories. In 1997, the IMF introduced under the initiatives the General Data Dissemination System (GDDS) to provide a framework for countries that aim to develop their statistical systems, within which they can work toward disseminating comprehensive and reliable data and, eventually, meet SDDS requirements. At the Eighth Review of the Fund’s Data Standards Initiatives in February 2012, the IMF’s Executive Board approved the SDDS Plus as an upper tier of the Fund’s data standards initiatives. The SDDS Plus is open to all SDDS subscribers and is aimed at economies with systemically important financial sectors.

Book Observations on W D Gann Vol 1

Download or read book Observations on W D Gann Vol 1 written by Awodele and published by . This book was released on 2015-01-29 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During my time studying Gann, I was fortunate to come across an e-book published by the Gann Study Group entitled, W.D. Gann on the Law of Vibration. In this e-book is where I first read a little known Gann article from 1919. In this article, Gann makes some predictions about the German Kaiser, Wilhelm Hohenzollern, and provides some details as to how he made his predictions. Continued study and work on the contents of the article led to the publication of my first book entitled, W.D. Gann: Divination By Mathematics. In this book, I wrote a chapter on periodicity, which was personally for me, one of my favorites in the book. In that chapter I was able to show how Gann may have derived key periods in the life of the German Kaiser, Wilhelm Hohenzollern. Interestingly, during my continued research, I found another example in Gann's work that matched the same procedure Gann may have used to derive some of the key periods in the 1919 article. Thus, one of the main goals of this small booklet is to simply share what I found. It has always been my intention to publish additional books to get some of the ideas that I have been contemplating out in the open, but I didn't have enough information on a particular topic to fill a three hundred, two hundred, or even a one hundred page book. With this in mind, I realized that I could publish small booklets in a series of volumes, each focusing on a different topic to achieve my goal. So this is what you will find in this publication, a small booklet on the topic of periodicity, which is the first volume in a series of volumes on observations I have made with respect to Gann's work. It is my hope that the reader will find something valuable within these pages to further their own research and study.
