Book excerpt: Perhaps Love is a compendium of romantic poems composed by the author over many decades, intimately reflective of a serene storgic dying entity of true self sacrificing love. It is written beautifully with a style so sublime, such that the interpretation is left open to the reader, depending on their individual context and frame of mind, which could range from lovers to best of friends. The style is rich and varies from sonnets to horatic and Pindaric odes dedicated to the lover and his beloved. Perhaps Love is an enjoyable read for anyone at any level. People with a passion for literary art can appreciate its full depth. The author is truly an enigmatic individual to many of us who intimately know him. He has a depth that is unfathomable to many and I consider myself truly privileged to know him as my father figure both personally and professionally.

Book Metacinema in Contemporary Chinese Film

Download or read book Metacinema in Contemporary Chinese Film written by G. Andrew Stuckey and published by Hong Kong University Press. This book was released on 2018-08-17 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Depictions within a movie of either filmmaking or film watching are hardly novel, but the dramatic expansion of the reach of the metacinematic into contemporary Chinese cinemas is nothing short of remarkable. To G. Andrew Stuckey, the prevalence of metacinematic features forms the basis of a discourse on film arising from the films themselves. Such a discourse, in turn, outlines the boundaries of the possible for film in China as aesthetic or sociopolitical practice. Metacinema also draws our attention to the presence of the audience, people actively responding to a film. In elucidating the affective responses elicited by the metacinematic mode in the viewers, Stuckey argues that metacinema reflects ways of being in the world that audiences may take up for themselves. The films studied in this book are drawn across the full spectrum of Chinese films made in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan during the 1990s and 2000s, from award-winning conceptual art films to popular crowd pleasers, blockbusters to low-budget productions, and documentary-style social realist exposé projects to studio assembly-line investments. The recurrence of the metacinematic across this broad range of works is indicative of its relevance to Chinese films today, and the analysis of these diverse examples allows us to gauge the cultural, social, and aesthetic implications of Chinese cinemas as a whole. “Stuckey surveys a broad swath of contemporary Chinese cinema, from popular blockbusters to elite art films, around the theme of metacinema, yielding new insights into both previously neglected films and those already acknowledged as contemporary classics. The result is a fascinating dive into the growing and diversifying cinema culture of China today.” —Jason McGrath, University of Minnesota “Stuckey’s brilliant work, Metacinema in Contemporary Chinese Film, offers insightful close analyses of films by key directors from the PRC (Jiang Wen, Lou Ye, Jia Zhangke, and Li Yu), Hong Kong (Peter Chan), and Taiwan (Tsai Ming-liang). This clearly written book is essential reading for scholars and students of Chinese cinemas. Stuckey’s study of genre and metacinema makes it a must-read for anyone interested in cinema.” —Michelle Bloom, University of California, Riverside

Book Would You Lie to Save a Life

Download or read book Would You Lie to Save a Life written by Michael Glenn Maness and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2007-09-12 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Would You Lie to Save a Life? Love Will Find a Way Home: A Theology on the Ethics of Love In 1968, Commander Lloyd Bucher and the USS Pueblo were pirated on the high seas. They were held captive for 11 months, and Bucher was forced to sign a confession – forced to lie to save the lives of his men. How does Love impact that decsion in a Christian theology? Love makes the world go round. Without Love, little else has value this side of heaven. In this dilemma between Love and Truth, Love was chosen over Truth, but not at the expense of all Truth. Between the deontological and teleological elements, time itself comes into play in the determination of the absolute "rightness" of the choice in perfect Love. How is as capable as Jesus was and is today? The course of Love is a sacred "stewardship of time" that is the highest exhibition of the Christian’s own Imago Dei or image of God granted to us in creation. When we are able to follow the Scarlet Thread of obedience perfectly, it will lead straight through all of (1) the areas of complexity, uniting (2) all of the demands of all of the absolutes and run dead center between (3) all of the ethical fine lines. These three areas are detailed specifically.

Book Love and Organization

Download or read book Love and Organization written by Michael Pirson and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-06-30 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizations are not human, but they are made up of people. Examining the organization, functioning, growing and developing and moving together as one unit, the well-being and success of that organization depends on the well-being of people that make it up. Love, in its various forms, is the energy that motivates and fuels creativity, care, innovation, progress and well-being. Traditionally, organizational structures have been set up to support compliance and command and control, which often discourages love and creates policies against love at the workplace. The result has been reduced growth, productivity and retention of businesses as well as reduced well-being for employees. This reduced connectivity between individuals has also, at a higher level, adversely affected society. Without love, people are working and performing with reduced energy, and at reduced capacity. While prior research has been focused on love at the workplace from the viewpoint of psychologists, this book explores the impact of love within organizational contexts from various viewpoints including management, psychology, and philosophy. It explores love in the organizational context by looking at how it affects meaning, purpose, well-being, motivation, faith, care, spiritual development and how the identity and well-being of each person in the organization positively affects retention and the growth and success of that organization. It will be of interest to researchers, academics, and advanced students in the fields of organizational studies, leadership, and management.

Book Internet Video Culture in China

Download or read book Internet Video Culture in China written by Marc L Moskowitz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-05-08 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examining Internet culture in the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the US, this book analyzes videos which entertain both English and Chinese-speaking viewers to gain a better understanding of cultural similarities and differences. Each of the chapters in the volume studies streaming videos from YouTube and its Chinese counterparts, Todou and Youku, with the book using a combination of interpretative analysis of content, commentary, and ethnographic interviews. Employing a diverse range of examples, from Michael Jackson musical mash-ups of Cultural Revolution visuals, to short clips of Hitler ranting about twenty-first century issues with Chinese subtitles, this book goes on to explore the ways in which traditional beliefs regarding gender, romance, religion, and politics intersect. Looking at how these issues have changed over the years in response to new technologies and political economies, it also demonstrates how they engage in regional, transnational, and global dialogues. Comparing and incorporating the production of videos with traditional media, such as television and cinema, Internet Video Culture in China will be useful to students and scholars of Internet and digital anthropology, as well as Cultural Studies and Chinese Studies more generally.

Download or read book Exploring Values written by Petrus Eko Handoyo and published by BookCountry. This book was released on 2015-12-16 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philosophy studies all reality, all things, and all beings. Philosophy, in general, raises questions everything real. Yet, it always asks about one of the aspects of reality, which becomes our focus of exploration. Philosophy, however, is always “philosophy of” something special, like philosophy of man, philosophy of value, philosophy of nature, and others. This book is concerned with values. It is about philosophy of value, or axiology. What is value? The human life always relates to values. What we hope for as well as what we believe in mostly connect with our values, although we also face physical matters in life. Do we truly pursue the abstract things in life? How do we know we have values? Are values forever related to the good and the sacred? What about the bad, the evil, and the ugly? This book explores the world of values through various axiological standpoints, debates, the problems of values in human life, factual and evaluative judgments, the structure of human values, issues of values in culture, and close personal relationships. This book, finally, motivates us to identify, discover or rediscover our core values by formulating personal axiological perspectives.
