Book Response of Soybean to Sulphur and Boron Nutrition

Download or read book Response of Soybean to Sulphur and Boron Nutrition written by Limaakum T. Longkumer and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In India, soybean (Glycine max) has established one of the major oilseed crops besides being pulse crop. In the North East India, it is grown on slopes, jhum lands, terraces and plains. In spite of high yield potential, it productivity is much less than the world average. Cultivation of soybean on marginal land combined with sub optimal nutrients supply is the major hurdle in realising potential productivity. Sulphur is required for the synthesis of sulphur-containing amino-acids cystine, cystein and methionine which are essential components of protein. Soybean is very sensitive to boron deficiency as well. It requires an adequate supply of boron, especially during flowering and seed development. Its deficiency may cause restriction of water absorption, carbohydrate metabolism and even sterility. Recently the importance of boron has also been recognized in the development of embryo and synthesis of protein. Boron deficiency is known to inhibit economic yield. Soybean cultivation on acidic soils of northeast India is on rise but both of these vital nutrients are widely deficient in the region due to extreme acidity, excessive rainfall and very low use of mineral fertilizers.

Book Performance of Soybean Glycine Max L Varieties in Response to Levels of Phosphorus on Lahar Laden Condition

Download or read book Performance of Soybean Glycine Max L Varieties in Response to Levels of Phosphorus on Lahar Laden Condition written by John Eric Zabala and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was conducted to determine the growth and yield performance of soybean varieties in response to levels of phosphorus under lahar-laden condition. The treatment combinations of phosphorus (P2O5) levels and soybean varieties were arranged using the procedure in Split Plot in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications. All gathered data were analyzed using the Statistical Tool for Agricultural Research (STAR) through the analysis of variance (ANOVA).Among soybean varieties, PSB SY 6 (V3) and CL Soy 1 (V1) had a positive effect on computed seed yield per hectare, seed yield per plant, shelling percentage, weight of pods, number of pods per plant, number of filled pods and plant height, whereas the greatest number of unfilled pods was recorded from PSB SY 2 (V2). No significant findings were seen in terms of root length and number of seeds per pod among varieties. On the other hand, application of soil recommendation (T2) and fertilizer recommendation + 80KG P2O5 (T4), regardless of the variety, attained the highest computed seed yield per hectare, seed yield per plant, weight of pods, number of seeds per pod, number of pods per plant and number of filled pods per plant. Longest root length and most number of unfilled pods were recorded from the control (T1). Plant height and the longest root length were recorded from plants applied with soil recommendation + 40KG P2O5 (T3). There were no significant differences observed for shelling percentage and weight of 100 seeds. There was no interaction effect on the weight of 100 seeds and root length; however, the highest computed seed yield per hectare was recorded from PSB SY 6 (V3) applied with fertilizer recommendation + 80KG P2O5 (T4). The same treatment combination got the highest value with the lowest shelling percentage, most number of filled pods and heaviest 100 seeds.Cost and return analysis of computed seed yield per hectare showed that PSB SY 6 (V3) under lahar-laden condition registered the highest ROI among other varieties with 102.03% ROI. Regardless of the variety, soil sample recommendation (T2) fertilization marked the highest income among the treatments with Php 22,878.00 per hectare and ROI of 111.31%.

Book Optimizing Soybean Glycine Max L Yield with Nitrogen and Sulfur Applications

Download or read book Optimizing Soybean Glycine Max L Yield with Nitrogen and Sulfur Applications written by Kacey A. Cannon and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although soybean (Glycine max L.) yields have increased over the past decade, even greater improvement is in demand. Nontraditional practices such as applying nitrogen (N) to soybean for yield optimization, might be one way to meet this demand. Also, sulfur (S) is becoming a more important limiting nutrient in production due to higher yielding crops, lower S containing production inputs, and reduced supply from the environment. The N study involved two environments, irrigated and dryland, in Milan (35.9198° N, 88.7589° W) and Jackson (35.6145° N, 88.8139° W), TN in 2015 and 2016. Urea fertilizer treatments were 34, 67, and 101 kg N ha−1 (per hectare). Soybean height, nodes per plant, total biomass weight, biomass N concentration, total nodules per plant, total active nodules per plant, total adolescent nodules per plant, total nodule weight per plant, 100 seed weight, and yield were collected to evaluate treatment effects. Data analysis concluded that N applications significantly increased plant height, plant nodes, and plant biomass of soybean. However, N treatments significantly reduced active and adolescent nodule production. Soybean yield was not significantly increased by the N applications. The irrigated sites yielded at or below the dryland comparison, probably due to lodging, which may have compromised yield potential. The S study included soybean and corn (Zea mays L.) experiments, which were conducted in an S deficient soil in Milan, TN in 2015 and 2016. Ammonium sulfate treatments were 11, 23, and 34 kg S ha−1 (per hectare). Plant height, leaf S concentrations, seed S and N concentrations, 100 seed weight, and yield were collected to evaluate treatment effects. Data analysis concluded that S application significantly increased leaf S concentrations in corn but not soybean. Soybean and corn seed S was significantly increased but not seed N. Soybean yield was not increased, but corn yield was significantly increased 16% across all S rates, with no significant differences detected among S rates. Overall, results indicate N affected soybean growth and nodule development while the impact on yield was not demonstrated. In deficient soils, S fertilizer may improve corn yields, but may not be economical for soybean.

Book A New Technology of Deep Placement of Slow Release Nitrogen Fertilizers for Promotion of Soybean Growth and Seed Yield

Download or read book A New Technology of Deep Placement of Slow Release Nitrogen Fertilizers for Promotion of Soybean Growth and Seed Yield written by Kaushal Tewari and published by Nova Biomedical Books. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soybean seeds contain a large amount of protein (about 35%), and there is a significant correlation between the total amount of N accumulated in soybean plants and seed yield. Soybean utilises N from several sources, including mineralised soil organic matter, symbiotically fixed N, and N from fertiliser when applied. Soybean plants fix a large amount of N by root nodules symbiotically associated with soil bacteria called "rhizobia". However, sole N2 fixation is often insufficient to support the vigorous vegetative and reproductive growth of soybean plants. For the maximum yield of soybean, it is necessary to use both N2 fixation by root nodules and nitrogen absorption from roots. This book introduces the promotive effects of deep placement of slow release N fertilisers on growth, N2 fixation activity and seed yield of soybean cultivated in some rotated paddy fields of Niigata prefecture, Japan, including rotated paddy fields and upland fields.
