Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Oata Analysis and Synthesis (CINOAS) * at Purdue. University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 33 (thesis year 1988) a total of 13,273 theses titles from 23 Canadian and 1 85 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 33 reports theses submitted in 1988, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Performance of Cellular Frequency Hopped Spread Spectrum Radio Networks

Download or read book Performance of Cellular Frequency Hopped Spread Spectrum Radio Networks written by Jeffrey W. Gluck and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiple access interference is characterized for cellular mobile networks, in which users are assumed to be Poisson-distributed in the plane and employ frequency-hopped spread-spectrum signaling with transmitter-oriented assignment of frequency-hopping patterns. Exact expressions for the bit error probabilities are derived for binary coherently demodulated systems without coding. Approximations for the packet error probability are derived for coherent and noncoherent systems and these approximations are applied when forward-error-control coding is employed. In all cases, the effects of varying interference power are accurately taken into account according to some propagation law. Numerical results are given in terms of bit error probability for the exact case and throughput for the approximate analyses. Comparisons are made with previously derived bounds and it is shown that these tend to be very pessimistic. Keywords: Communications network; Multiple access; Frequency hopping; Spread spectrum; Error control coding. (jhd).

Book Performance of Frequency Hopping Multiple Access Technique in a Mobile Cellular System

Download or read book Performance of Frequency Hopping Multiple Access Technique in a Mobile Cellular System written by Zeyad Al-Etaibi and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a mobile cellular system, the choice of suitable multiple access techniques is very important to improve the spectral efficiency of the system. In this thesis the performance analysis of new multiple access techniques based on spread spectrum is studied in detail. This technique is called Frequency Hopping Code Division Multiple Access (FH/CDMA). This study makes a significant contribution to the theoretical analysis of the most important element in an FH/CDMA mobile cel- lular system known as co-channel interference. All the random variables affecting this element, such as path loss, fading and shadowing are studied and accurate models are obtained. The co-channel interference level is determined by all users in remote cells rather than by the worse case. In an FH/CDMA mobile system, there are two sources of interference. The first is called co-channel interference, as mentioned above. The second interference is called 'other slots' interference. This interference can be eliminated if a synchronisation between the users oper- ating in different cells is achieved. This is impossible in mobile cellular systems. In the second part of this thesis (for the first time) the 'other slots' interference is investigated in detail. A good deal of new theoretical analysis is achieved and new closed form expressions are obtained. The presence of the co-channel in- terference and 'other slots' interference in an FH/CDMA mobile system causes loss of the transmitted signal. This is studied in detail and the type of coding and decoding techniques needed to improve the performance of the system is de- fined. Finally, the Bit Error Ratio (BER) performance of an FH/CDMA mobile.

Book Wireless Communications under Hostile Jamming Security and Efficiency

Download or read book Wireless Communications under Hostile Jamming Security and Efficiency written by Tongtong Li and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-10 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is intended for the designers and would-be designers of secure and efficient wireless communication systems under intentional interference. Along with the widespread of wireless devices, especially reconfigurable software defined radios, jamming has become a serious threat to civilian communications. In this book, going beyond traditional communication system design that mainly focuses on accurate information transmission under benign environments, we aim to enhance the physical layer security of communication systems by integrating modern cryptographic techniques into transceiver design, so as to achieve secure high-speed transmission under hostile interference with high reliability and efficiency. We revisit existing jamming patterns, and introduce new jamming patterns. We analyze the weaknesses of existing anti-jamming techniques. We present innovative and feasible anti-jamming techniques, which can strengthen the inherent security of the 3G, 4G and the upcoming 5G systems with minimal and inexpensive changes to the existing CDMA, frequency hopping and OFDM schemes. We also provide benchmarks for system performance evaluation under various jamming scenarios through capacity analysis. This book includes design principles, in-depth theoretical analysis and practical design examples, and will be of interest to academic researchers as well as professionals in industry.

Book The Cable and Telecommunications Professionals Reference

Download or read book The Cable and Telecommunications Professionals Reference written by Goff Hill and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2012-07-26 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for any telecommunications-convergence professional who needs to understand the structure of the industry, the structure of telephony networks and services, and the equipment involved. With the growing variety of networks and technologies now on offer it is inevitable that some convergence will take place between different networks, services and products. New VOIP (voice over internet protocol) networks must interwork with traditional networks. For instance, mobile phones can offer data services; wireless broadband connections to laptops will allow VOIP phone calls away from base; users could have the option of 'convergent phones' that can be used on a landline when at home or business, but which can be used as a mobile when on the move, and so on.

Book Performance Enhancements in a Frequency Hopping GSM Network

Download or read book Performance Enhancements in a Frequency Hopping GSM Network written by Thomas Toftegaard Nielsen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the explosive global growth in the number of mobile subscribers, as well as the growth predicted in the mobile data segment, the need for improved spectrum efficiency on the radio interface becomes more and more important. Frequency hopping (FH) is an effective method for improving the spectrum efficiency. One of the advantages of FH is that it can be combined with other spectral efficiency improving features like power control, handover and reuse partitioning. Performance Enhancements in a Frequency Hopping GSM Network covers FH and some of the additional features in detail. It begins with an in-depth description of the basic concept of FH on link level as well as on system level. Different methods have been used for analysis, such as link level simulations, network level simulations and classic tele-traffic theory. Special features of Performance Enhancements in a Frequency Hopping GSM Network: Combines the practical experiences of operator and vendor with more theoretical research methods. An in-depth treatment of prevailing problems in GSM networks; Presentation of a new method, computer-aided network design (CAND), which has been developed to analyse the complex network structures of a GSM network. CAND provides the possibility for more realistic performance evaluations than conventional methods; Provides GSM-specific analysis of functionality improvements in power control, discontinuous transmission, and several handover algorithms; Explanation of the quality and capacity gains of features like the combination of FH and reuse partitioning, referred to as intelligent frequency hopping; A frequency planning method for FH GSM networks is presented. This method exploits the benefits from FH directly in the allocation process, increasing the overall frequency plan.
