Book Performance Evaluation of Multihop Packet Radio Networks by Simulation

Download or read book Performance Evaluation of Multihop Packet Radio Networks by Simulation written by David Hilton Shur and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Packet switched networks provide an efficient and flexible method for interconnecting geographically distributed users for the purpose of digital data transmission. In packet radio networks, nodes transmit packets over multiple-access broadcast radio channels instead of wire, cable or fiber optics links. If the destination node of a packet is not within the power range of its source node, intermediate nodes are needed to deliver the packet in a store-and-forward fashion. Therefore, multihop packet radio networks have both the multiple-access feature typical of broadcast networks and the store-and-forward feature of point-to-point networks. Since only under restrictive assumptions is performance analysis tractable, simulation techniques must be used. (jes).

Book Performance Evaluation of Channel Access Schemes in Multihop Packet Radio Networks with Regular Structure by Simulation

Download or read book Performance Evaluation of Channel Access Schemes in Multihop Packet Radio Networks with Regular Structure by Simulation written by Fouad A. Tobagi and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this report, the performance of various channel access schemes in multi-hop packet radio networks with a regular structure is studied by means of simulation. The channel access schemes considered are: ALOHA (pure and slotted), Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA), Busy Tone Multiple Access (BTMA), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), and a new hypothetical scheme introduced here for comparison purposes referred to as Coded Activity Signalling Multiple Access (CASMA. Network throughput and packet delay are evaluated, as well as the effects on performance of the nodal transmission scheduling rate, the propagation delay among nodes, and to some extent the input flow control. In this study, we consider networks in which both the topology and the traffic pattern are symmetric. This renders all nodes in the network statistically identical, and thus helps reduce the complexity of the simulation task considerably without jeopardizing the objective. The performance of CSMA in such networks is shown to be rather poor as compared with its performance in fully connected networks, while relatively high performance is achieved by the CASMA scheme, as compared with CSMA and the ALOHA schemes. (RH).

Book Performance Analysis of Multi Channel and Multi Traffic on Wireless Communication Networks

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Multi Channel and Multi Traffic on Wireless Communication Networks written by Wuyi Yue and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the rapidly increasing penetration of laptop computers and mobile phones, which are primarily used by mobile users to access Internet s- vices like e-mail and World Wide Web (WWW) access, support of Internet services in a mobile environment is an emerging requirement. Wireless n- works have been used for communication among fully distributed users in a multimedia environment that has the needs to provide real-time bursty traffic (such as voice or video) and data traffic with excellent reliability and service quality. To satisfy the huge wireless multimedia service demand and improve the system performance, efficient channel access methods and analytical methods must be provided. In this way very accurate models, that faithfully reproduce the stochastic behavior of multimedia wireless communication and computer networks, can be constructed. Most of these system models are discrete-time queueing systems. Queueing networks and Markov chains are commonly used for the p- formance and reliability evaluation of computer, communication, and m- ufacturing systems. Although there are quite a few books on the individual topics of queueing networks and Markov chains, we have found none that covers the topics of discrete-time and continuous-time multichannel mul- traffic queueing networks. On the other hand, the design and development of multichannel mul- hop network systems and interconnected network systems or integrated n- works of multimedia traffic require not only such average performance m- sures as the throughput or packet delay but also higher moments of traffic departures and transmission delay.

Book Simulation Based Analysis and Evaluation of Tactical Multi Hop Radio Networks

Download or read book Simulation Based Analysis and Evaluation of Tactical Multi Hop Radio Networks written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many years, the technologies involved in the newest generations of tactical communication equipment have increased the reliability and security of tactical voice communications from the highest to the lowest levels of combat command. However, the complexities inherent to wireless data networks have prevented the reach of valuable data links from extending efficiently and reliably to the lowest levels of tactical command. This thesis attempts to quantify the performance of tactical data networks using existing technologies and currently deployed mobile wireless networking devices by analyzing the results of network simulations involving currently deployed devices. By quantifying these performance metrics and comparing them to previously collected simulation results involving experimental technologies, we hope to provide a mode of comparison that will accurately reflect the degree to which newer mobile wireless networking devices will benefit our operational forces.

Book Performance Analysis of Multi Channel and Multi Traffic on Wireless Communication Networks

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Multi Channel and Multi Traffic on Wireless Communication Networks written by Wuyi Yue and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-02-28 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book attempts to present exact and approximate analytical solution methods and techniques using queueing theory in the complex multimedia traffic systems with procedures of random multiple access schemes. In particular, this book presents how to approximate the system performance of discrete-time multimedia networks, the probability distribution of the interarrival time of internetwork packets at the adjacent network and the higher moments of the transmission departure distribution and delay in wireless multimedia communication environment. In general the modeling of discrete-time multimedia communication systems are more complex than that of continuous-time systems because multiple state changes can occur from one time-unit to the next. This complicates the analysis of the model. This book also discusses numerical results that illustrate the applications of the theory and various properties.

Book excerpt: Sensor networks continue to grow in importance for modern communication networks. Communication protocols are at the core of these networks, determining their ability to function, their capabilities, and the environments in which they are able to operate. In chapters carefully selected from the popular Handbook of Sensor Networks, Sensor Network Protocols supplies a sharply focused reference on protocols, security, data processing, and energy management in communication sensor networks that is ideal for specialists in the field. Providing a succinct guide to the protocols currently used in advanced sensor networks, this book focuses on four main areas: routing protocols; data gathering and processing; security and reliability; and energy management. The book opens with a survey of the challenges and opportunities facing the field. Then, expert contributors authoritatively discuss routing technologies, next-generation enabling technologies, comparative study of energy-efficient protocols for wireless sensor networks, techniques to reduce computation and communication energy consumption, energy-aware routing, localized algorithms for sensor networks, and much more. Sensor Network Protocols details the techniques and technologies that are at the heart of modern sensor networks. It is an ideal reference for anyone interested in designing, planning, or building emerging sensor and communications networks.
