Book Performance Effects of Irregular Communications Patterns on Massively Parallel Multiprocessors

Download or read book Performance Effects of Irregular Communications Patterns on Massively Parallel Multiprocessors written by Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "We conduct a detailed study of the performance effects of irregular communications patterns on the CM-2. We characterize the communications capabilities of the CM-2 under a variety of controlled conditions. In the process of carrying out our performance evaluation, we develop and make extensive use of a parameterized synthetic mesh. In addition we carry out timings with unstructured meshes generated for aerodynamic codes and a set of sparse matrices with banded patterns of non-zeros. This benchmarking suite stresses the communications capabilities of the CM-2 in a range of different ways. Our benchmark results demonstrate that it is possible to make effective use of much of the massive concurrency available in the communications network."

Book The Data Parallel Programming Model

Download or read book The Data Parallel Programming Model written by Guy-Rene Perrin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1996-09-11 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph-like book assembles the thorougly revised and cross-reviewed lectures given at the School on Data Parallelism, held in Les Menuires, France, in May 1996. The book is a unique survey on the current status and future perspectives of the currently very promising and popular data parallel programming model. Much attention is paid to the style of writing and complementary coverage of the relevant issues throughout the 12 chapters. Thus these lecture notes are ideally suited for advanced courses or self-instruction on data parallel programming. Furthermore, the book is indispensable reading for anybody doing research in data parallel programming and related areas.

Book Massively parallel computing

Download or read book Massively parallel computing written by Harvard University. Center for Research in Computing Technology and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "Massively parallel computing holds the promise of extreme performance. The utility of these systems will depend heavily upon the availability of libraries until compilation and run-time system technology is developed to a level comparable to what today is common on most uniprocessor systems. Critical for performance is the ability to exploit locality of reference and effective management of the communication resources. We discuss some techniques for preserving locality of reference in distributed memory architectures. In particular, we discuss the benefits of multidimensional address spaces instead of the conventional linearized address spaces, partitioning of irregular grids, and placement of partitions among nodes.

Book Languages Compilers and Run Time Systems for Scalable Computers

Download or read book Languages Compilers and Run Time Systems for Scalable Computers written by Boleslaw K. Szymanski and published by Springer. This book was released on 1995-10-31 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Language, Compilers and Run-time Systems for Scalable Computers contains 20 articles based on presentations given at the third workshop of the same title, and 13 extended abstracts from the poster session. Starting with new developments in classical problems of parallel compiler design, such as dependence analysis and an exploration of loop parallelism, the book goes on to address the issues of compiler strategy for specific architectures and programming environments. Several chapters investigate support for multi-threading, object orientation, irregular computation, locality enhancement, and communication optimization. Issues of the interface between language and operating system support are also discussed. Finally, the load balance issues are discussed in different contexts, including sparse matrix computation and iteratively balanced adaptive solvers for partial differential equations. Some additional topics are also discussed in the extended abstracts. Each chapter provides a bibliography of relevant papers and the book can thus be used as a reference to the most up-to-date research in parallel software engineering.

Book Parallel Symbolic Computing Languages Systems and Applications

Download or read book Parallel Symbolic Computing Languages Systems and Applications written by Robert H. Halstead and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1993-11-03 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parallel and distributed computing are becoming increasingly important as cost-effective ways to achieve high computational performance. Symbolic computations are notable for their use of irregular data structures and hence parallel symbolic computing has its own distinctive set of technical challenges. The papers in this book are based on presentations made at a workshop at MIT in October 1992. They present results in a wide range of areas including: speculative computation, scheduling techniques, program development tools and environments, programming languages and systems, models of concurrency and distribution, parallel computer architecture, and symbolic applications.
