Book Isolated Performance at Mach Numbers From 0 60 to 2 86 of Several Expendable Nozzle Concepts for Supersonic Applications

Download or read book Isolated Performance at Mach Numbers From 0 60 to 2 86 of Several Expendable Nozzle Concepts for Supersonic Applications written by Richard J. Re and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investigations have been conducted in the Langley 16-Foot Transonic Tunnel (at Mach numbers from 0.60 to 1.25) and in the Langley Unitary Plan Winf Tunnel (at Mach numbers from 2.16 to 2.86) at an angle of attack of O° to determine the isolated performane of several expendable nozzle concepts for supersonic noaugmented turbojet applications. The effects of centerbody base shape, shroud length, shroud ventilation, cruciform shroud expansion ration, and cruciform shroud flap vectoring were investigated. The nozzle pressure ration range, which was a function of Mach number, was between 1.9 and 11.8 in the 16-Foot Transonic Tunnel and between 7.9 and 54.9 in the Unitary Plan WInd Tunnel. Discharge coefficient, thrust-minus-drag, and the forces and moments generated by vectoring the divergent shroud flaps (for Mach numbers of 0.60 to 1.25 only) of a cruciform nozzle configuration were measured.

Book Performance of Several Conical Convergent divergent Rocket type Exhaust Nozzles

Download or read book Performance of Several Conical Convergent divergent Rocket type Exhaust Nozzles written by C. E. Campbell and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted to obtain nozzle performance data with relatively large-scale models at pressure ratios as high as 120. Conical convergent-divergent nozzles with divergence angles alpha of 15, 25, and 29 deg. were each tested at area ratios of approximately 10, 25, and 40. Heated air (1200 F) was supplied at the nozzle inlet at pressures up to 145 pounds per square inch absolute and was exhausted into quiescent air at pressures as low as 1.2 pounds per square inch absolute. Thrust ratios for all nozzle configurations are presented over the range of pressure ratios attainable and were extrapolated when possible to design pressure ratio and beyond. Design thrust ratios decreased with increasing nozzle divergence angle according to the trend predicted by the (1 + cos alpha)/2 parameter. Decreasing the nozzle divergence angle resulted in sizable increases in thrust ratio for a given surface-area ratio (nozzle weight), particularly at low nozzle pressure ratios. Correlations of the nozzle static pressure at separation and of the average static pressure downstream of separation with various nozzle parameters permitted the calculation of thrust in the separated-flow region from unseparated static-pressure distributions. Thrust ratios calculated by this method agreed with measured values within about 1 percent.

Book Aeropulsive Characteristics at Mach Numbers Up to 2 2 of Axisymmetric and Nonaxisymmetric Nozzles Installed on an F 18 Model

Download or read book Aeropulsive Characteristics at Mach Numbers Up to 2 2 of Axisymmetric and Nonaxisymmetric Nozzles Installed on an F 18 Model written by Francis J. Capone and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation to determine the aeropropulsive characteristics of nonaxisymmetric nozzles on an F-18 jet effects model was conducted in the Langley 16-foot transonic tunnel and the AEDC 16-foot supersonic wind tunnel. The performance of a two dimensional convergent-divergent nozzle, a single expansion ramp nozzle, and a wedge nozzle was compared with that of the baseline axisymmetric nozzle. Test data were obtained at static conditions and at Mach numbers from 0.60 to 2.20 at an angle of attack of 0 deg. Nozzle pressure ratio was varied from jet-off to about 20.
