Book Performance Evaluation of Multipath Routing with Multichannel Ad Hoc Networks

Download or read book Performance Evaluation of Multipath Routing with Multichannel Ad Hoc Networks written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mobile ad hoc network is a collection of autonomous nodes connected to each other in a peer-to-peer fashion on a wireless medium. Such networks are used in emerging applications which require co-operative mobile data exchange in areas where there is little or no infrastructure available or where providing such infrastructure is not cost effective. Efficient dynamic routing is a major research challenge in such a network. Multipath routing provides a strong potential for efficient routing by maintaining multiple routes. This provides some form of fault-tolerance, as alternate paths can be used when one breaks. Also, data packets can be forwarded via multiple paths concurrently thus exploiting a larger network capacity. However, CSMA (carrier-sense multiple access) being a dominant form of channel access protocol in mobile ad hoc network, multipath forwarding is often unable to exploit its full potential. This is because multiple paths may form in each others2 radio neighborhood limiting spatial diversity. Data transmission in one path causes sufficient interference in another such that only one path can be used at a time. This phenomenon has been known as 3route coupling.4 We investigate the use of multichannel CSMA-based medium access protocols to reduce the impact of such route coupling. We use two such multichannel protocols to demonstrate that a significant throughput improvement is possible at high offered loads relative to the single channel CSMA for multipath data forwarding scenarios. One of the protocols chooses the channel based on interference power measurement at the sender. The other chooses a unique channel for each path. Our study shows that the multichannel protocols are able to limit the impact of interference between neighboring transmissions effectively.

Book Multipath TCP for User Cooperation in Wireless Networks

Download or read book Multipath TCP for User Cooperation in Wireless Networks written by Dizhi Zhou and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-24 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brief presents several enhancement modules to Multipath Transmission Control Protocol (MPTCP) in order to support stable and efficient multipath transmission with user cooperation in the Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. The text explains how these enhancements provide a stable aggregate throughput to the upper-layer applications; guarantee a steady goodput, which is the real application-layer perceived throughput; and ensure that the local traffic of the relays is not adversely affected when the relays are forwarding data for the destination. The performance of the proposed solutions is extensively evaluated using various scenarios. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed modules can achieve a stable aggregate throughput and significantly improve the goodput by 1.5 times on average. The brief also shows that these extensions can well respect the local traffic of the relays and motivate the relay users to provide the relaying service.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 36 (thesis year 1991) a total of 11,024 thesis titles from 23 Canadian and 161 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 36 reports theses submitted in 1991, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book The Fundamental Role of Teletraffic in the Evolution of Telecommunications Networks

Download or read book The Fundamental Role of Teletraffic in the Evolution of Telecommunications Networks written by J. Labetoulle and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 1562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Teletraffic Congress (ITC) is a recognized international organization taking part in the work of the International Telecommunications Union. The congress traditionally deals with the development of teletraffic theory and its applications to the design, planning and operation of telecommunication systems, networks and services. The contents of ITC 14 illustrate the important role of teletraffic in the current period of rapid evolution of telecommunication networks. A large number of papers address the teletraffic issues behind developments in broadband communications and ATM technology. The extension of possiblities for user mobility and personal communications together with the generalization of common channnel signalling and the provision of new intelligent network services are further extremely significant developments whose teletraffic implications are explored in a number of contributions. ITC 14 also addresses traditional teletraffic subjects, proposing enhancements to traffic engineering practices for existing circuit and packet switched telecommunications networks and making valuable original contributions to the fundamental mathematical tools on which teletraffic theory is based. The contents of these Proceedings accurately reflect the extremely wide scope of the ITC, extending from basic mathematical theory to day-to-day traffic engineering practices, and constitute the state of the art in 1994 of one of the fundamental telecommunications sciences.
