Book excerpt: Objectif : déterminer comment les employeurs percevaient les salariés en situation de souffrance psychique liée au travail dans leur entreprise. Méthode : une étude qualitative par entretiens individuels semi-dirigés a été menée entre Janvier et Novembre 2017. Chaque entretien a fait l'objet d'un double codage avant analyse thématique de manière inductive au fil des entretiens. Résultats : l'étude a porté sur 15 entretiens auprès d'employeurs ou de directeurs des ressources humaines d'entreprises allant de 5 à 900 salariés, localisées dans le Maine et Loire, la Sarthe et la Charente. Cette étude a fait apparaître de nombreuses interrogations et incompréhensions de la part des employeurs concernant les origines et les facteurs de risque de souffrance psychique au travail avec notamment la difficulté à distinguer les facteurs privés des facteurs professionnels. Les employeurs ont décrit une mise à l'épreuve de la relation avec leurs salariés par l'apparition d'un sentiment de méfiance, d'injustice et d'une perte de confiance. Les actions des employeurs étaient limitées par un défaut de formation sur les risques psychosociaux, par le sentiment de manque de possibilité d'agir sur la part privée et par les enjeux économiques. Conclusion : l'ensemble des incompréhensions des employeurs a semblé compliquer les situations de souffrance psychique au travail avec une dégradation secondaire des relations employeur/salarié et être parfois à l'origine d'une volonté de séparation. L'étude a permis de montrer, dans certains cas, une non-reconnaissance de la souffrance psychique du salarié par son employeur. Il pourrait être intéressant de mener des études sur les impacts de cette non-reconnaissance dans les situations de souffrance psychique au travail.

Cette mutation entraîne diverses conséquences à la fois pour les organisations qui doivent faire face aux pressions des conditions du marché externe, ainsi que pour les employés dont la relation d’emploi est remise en question. Depuis plusieurs années, la théorie du contrat psychologique s’est imposée comme une base explicative des attitudes et des comportements individuels au travail, ainsi que de la nouvelle relation d’emploi. Un de ses aspects majeurs sur lequel se sont concentrés plusieurs auteurs est la rupture qui se produit lorsque l’employé perçoit que son employeur n’a pas respecté ses promesses. Récemment, sous l’influence des pressions que connaît le monde du travail, ont émergé des écrits sur les conséquences de cette rupture sur la santé mentale des salariés, soit la détresse psychologique au travail. Dans l’explication de la rupture du contrat psychologique, les écrits antérieurs ont fait état de l’influence intervenante des attitudes et des comportements individuels. L’objectif de notre étude vise à mieux comprendre les conditions d’emploi dont la rupture engendre certaines conséquences attitudinales et comportementales, notamment l’engagement organisationnel, le soutien social au travail ainsi que les conflits de valeurs et de quelle façon ces facteurs peuvent faire la différence en atténuant ou en accentuant les conséquences de la rupture du contrat psychologique. Pour ce faire, nous avons réalisé une étude qualitative exploratoire suivie d’une étude quantitative auprès de salariés d’une agence de vente et de services client d’une grande structure française auprès desquels nous avons d’abord réalisé des entretiens semi- directifs puis nous leur avons administré un questionnaire.

These were divided into test room studies, interviewing studies and observational studies. The test room studies were experiments into what variables in a workplace environment might affect worker fatigue. The findings of these tests led to extensive interviewing on the attitudes of the workers. The final phase of the Hawthorne experiment focused on social factors, using techniques of cultural anthropology to observe small working groups. The results of these experiments profoundly influenced the Human Relations movement.

Book excerpt: In the late 1950s, like tens of thousands of young men of his generation, Pierre Bourdieu, having recently passed the agrégation in philosophy, found himself immersed in the Algerian war. Motivated by an impulse that, as he himself says, ‘was civic rather than political’, nothing seemed more important to him than to understand the Algerian situation and provide the elements that would enable others to come to an informed judgement about it. In extremely tough conditions and along with a small group of students, Bourdieu undertook a series of studies across an Algeria that was tightly patrolled by the army, leading him to discover the shocking reality of the resettlement camps and to analyse the mechanisms of destruction of Algerian society of which they were emblematic. To achieve the objectives he had set himself, Bourdieu had to carry out a genuine intellectual conversion, acquiring an ethnographic understanding of Algerian society, learning sociological analysis at a breakneck pace and inventing new instruments - both theoretical and empirical - that would enable him to understand the relations of domination specific to colonialism. These new tools also enabled him to analyse the nature of the crisis that the war had both produced and manifested. This unique volume brings together the first texts written by Bourdieu in the midst of the Algerian conflict, as well as later writings and interviews in which he returns to the topic of Algeria and the decisive role it played in the development of his work.
