Download or read book A Decade of Research on School Principals written by Helene Ärlestig and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-13 with total page 547 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a unique map of the focus and directions of contemporary research on school leadership since 2000 in 24 countries. Each of these directions has its own particular cultural, educational and policy history. Taken together, the various chapters in the volume provide a rich and varied mosaic of what is currently known and what is yet to be discovered about the roles and practices of principals, and their contributions to the improvement of teaching and the learning and achievement of students. The particular foci and methodological emphases of the research reported illustrate the different phases in the development of educational policies and provision in each country. This collection is an important addition to existing international research that has shown beyond any reasonable doubt that the influence of school principals is second only to that of teachers in their capacity to impact students’ progress and achievement and to promote equity and social justice.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As an assistant principal and former teacher in a large diverse K-8 public school, I deal daily with a multitude of issues that directly affect the scope and sequence of your childs education. Therefore, I have written a book entitled Sent to the Assistant Principals Office: The Door Is Always Open. From the arrival of the first bus to the last bell, I cover the key issues, problems, and challenges that confront parents daily and offer them advice on how to deal with the many complexities and intricacies of public school. My advice is based on my experiences and interactions with parents, teachers, students, and staff. I describe a typical sample scenario, and I offer solutions based on experience with an anecdote or two tossed in for flavor, context, and texture. This book is intended to reach a large audience. Parents, grandparents, guardians, or anyone else, who advocates for public school-aged children K-12, will find this book a useful tool by which to navigate their childs journey through public school. And it is presented in simple, clear, and plain terms. Although comprehensive, it is concise enough for adults who do not have the time to read a lengthy, complicated research-based study or surf the Internet for confusing and ambiguous Web sites. This book cuts to the core of what to look for, say, ask, and do as the parent or custodian of a public school child. Think of it as a one-stop shopping for your childs public school experience.

Download or read book Implementing School based Management written by Harry P. Hatry and published by The Urban Insitute. This book was released on 1993 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the findings and recommendations of an examination of the implementation of a major form of school-based management (SBM). It is based on case studies of the science and mathematics departments of 10 high schools and 9 middle or junior high schools in 12 school systems, almost all of which are urban school districts. The study found that implementation often falls short of the ideal. It did not find dramatic changes resulting from SBM. However, those schools and faculty members that took advantage of their added flexibility under SBM were able to achieve numerous small-scale improvements. The report provides a series of recommendations for school districts and individual schools to increase the likelihood of successful implementation of decentralization efforts such as SBM. The findings and recommendations cover such issues as (1) the extent of decentralization of budgeting expenditure and personnel decisions, (2) the role of site councils and department heads, and (3) communication and training needs. Appendixes list participating schools and districts and contain a literature review. (Contains 117 references.) (Author/SLD)
