Ironically, the field of psychology has largely ignored the spiritual beliefs and experiences that so many people see as central to their well-being. Empirical study of spirituality, along with people's differing perceptions of their relationship to God, is a viable area of study for psychologists. This dissertation examines both spirituality and God image and the relationship between these two constructs using qualitative hermeneutic analysis. Findings showed a difficulty defining spirituality among other themes. Findings also showed that individuals' experiences with God led to more concrete descriptions of Deity, and participants often alluded to a gap between themselves and God that creates dissonance. It was generally easier for participants to describe God than spirituality, and religious concepts were integral to participants' descriptions of both spirituality and God. Implications for psychology and counseling include the limitations of current quantitative measurement of these constructs, the importance of addressing contextual worldviews, and issues relevant to counseling.

Scripture, for example, employs perceptual language like 'taste and see that the Lord is good', 'hear the word of the Lord', and promises that 'the pure in heart will see God'. Such statements seem to point to certain features of human cognition that make perception-like contact with divine things possible. But how precisely should these statements be construed? Can the elusive notion of 'spiritual perception' survive rigorous theological and philosophical scrutiny and receive a constructive articulation? Perceiving Things Divine seeks to make philosophical and theological sense of spiritual perception. Reflecting the results of the second phase of the Spiritual Perception Project, this volume argues for the possibility of spiritual perception. It also seeks to make progress towards a constructive account of the different aspects of spiritual perception while exploring its intersection with various theological and philosophical themes, such as biblical interpretation, aesthetics, liturgy, race, ecology, eschatology, and the hiddenness of God. The interdisciplinary scope of the volume draws on the resources of value theory, philosophy of perception, epistemology, philosophy of art, psychology, systematic theology, and theological aesthetics. The volume also draws attention to how spiritual perception may be affected by such distortions as pornographic sensibility and racial prejudice. Since perceiving spiritually involves the whole person, the volume proposes that spiritual perception could be purified by ascetic discipline, healed by contemplative practices, trained in the process of spiritual direction and the pursuit of virtue, transformed by the immersion in the sacramental life, and healed by opening the self to the operation of divine grace.

From this higher state of awareness, we will discover the portal to access the abstract mind, which is the mental function of genius and the doorway to revelation. From the perspective of revelation, we will open the doors into the absolute realms, beyond material time and space, and describes the perceptions of God, the soul, the world, and the paths to higher consciousness. Perceptions of Reality will show us how to access the abstract mind and open the doorways into revelation, creating a new reality, full of abundance, harmony and joy.

In this manner, the devil keeps humans in a state of anguish and depression with the goal to destroy them. The devil's goal is for humans to commit suicide or wish the death of others. When humans decide to ask God for forgiveness of their sins and they reject their sinful will, then they recover their divine perception. As they remember God and accept God as their Creator, their spirits are filled with love. They then realize that the only responsibility of God's children is to forgive and love.

Being able to perceive in such a way that it allows us to decide how to react and understand a situation is important. Spiritual perception is based on a change in thought and view. A change based on an unnatural view that is outside of fleshly principals, a view not affected by the natural environment but subject to spiritual principals. It is this discernment that qualifies this spiritual perception. We know that there are many perceptions and interpretations in different situations that can make a difference how we react. Here we carefully examine the reason and cause of the perceptions we respond to. God has blessed us all with many wonderful gifts whether we recognize them or not. But just because we have these gifts does not mean that we know how to manage them. A very important gift that God has allowed us to have is the ability to perceive and develop an understanding. God expects His gifts to be used in a wise and discerning way. By cultivating and sharing these gifts the love of God can be appreciated. How we see and understand different situations in life is not just based on our experience and knowledge but on the love that we have for one another. Spiritual perceptibility is a discernment that only the godly will have that allows them to exercise their faith and decisions that may not be acceptable to the norm but in spiritual reality will be a wise decision even though they may not understand it.
