Or, la perception du temps demeure à ce jour un aspect relativement méconnu des diagnostics de Trouble du spectre autistique (TSA) et de Trouble déficitaire de l’attention avec ou sans hyperactivité (TDAH), qui sont associés à des particularités dans le traitement de l'information et la gestion des émotions, ainsi qu'à des difficultés interpersonnelles. La présente thèse a pour objectif d'évaluer l'impact de l'émotion perçue sur la performance lors de tâches de bissection et de reproduction temporelles chez des adolescents âgés de 11 à 18 ans qui ont reçu un diagnostic de TSA et de TDAH (11 participants par groupe clinique et 10 dans le groupe contrôle). Des visages neutres ou exprimant la colère ou la peur sont utilisés afin d'évaluer l'impact de l'émotion perçue sur la perception du temps des participants. De même, les tâches de bissection (400-1600 ms) et de reproduction (2000 et 10000 ms) permettent d'évaluer respectivement la perception de durées courtes et longues, qui repose sur des mécanismes distincts. Les résultats de la tâche de bissection ne révèlent aucune différence significative entre les groupes, suggérant ainsi que le mécanisme de l'horloge interne est relativement préservé dans les diagnostics de TSA et de TDAH. L'impact de l'émotion perçue sur la performance en bissection temporelle n'est pas significatif, mais il est possible d'observer une plus grande proportion de réponses longues pour la durée de 800 ms lorsque le visage présenté exprime la peur plutôt que d'être neutre. De même, la colère présentée lors de la phase d'encodage de la durée de deux secondes est associée à une surestimation de la durée, et ce, dans les trois groupes. La colère présentée lors de l'encodage du standard de dix secondes affecte également la performance des adolescents des trois groupes, mais son impact s'avère plus marqué lorsqu'un visage neutre est présenté pendant la reproduction. Le coefficient de variation des groupes TSA et TDAH varie selon l'émotion perçue au cours de la phase de reproduction. Chez les adolescents du groupe TSA, une plus grande sensibilité temporelle est ainsi observée lorsqu'un visage en colère est présenté, alors que le patron inverse est observé dans le groupe TDAH. Les résultats de la tâche de reproduction temporelle suggèrent que l'émotion perçue engendre des distorsions dans l'appréciation de la durée écoulée chez les adolescents porteurs de diagnostics de TSA et de TDAH. Les analyses corrélationnelles suggèrent pour leur part un impact plus marqué de l'émotion chez les adolescents qui présentent des troubles de comportement. De bonnes habiletés sociales tendent au contraire à limiter l'impression subjective d'allongement de la durée. Les études à venir devraient inclure un plus grand échantillon et une évaluation clinique des participants issus de populations cliniques. Le protocole devrait proposer diverses tâches temporelles afin d'évaluer le fonctionnement de l'horloge interne, mais aussi d'apprécier la contribution des fonctions cognitives à la perception du temps. De même, le recours à des stimuli dynamiques et la présentation de visages dont l'expression est nuancée et subtile amélioreraient la validité écologique des études réalisées à propos de l'impact de l'émotion perçue sur la perception du temps.

Book excerpt: Although speech-language pathologists are expected to be able to administer and interpret oral examinations, there are currently no screening tests available that provide careful administration instructions and data for intra-examiner and inter-examiner reliability. The Oral Speech Mechanism Screening Examination (OSMSE) is designed primarily for use by clinical speech-language pathologists. The examination could also serve, however, as a useful tool for oral myofunctional therapists, as well as physical therapists, dentists, and orthodontists interested specifically in speech. It is reliable, relatively easy and quick to administer, and appropriate for children and adults in either diagnostic or therapy settings. The OSMSE is intended to assess those anatomical structures and physiological functions that are most often considered to be potentially related to speech or language disorders. Structural and/or functional judgments included are organized on the OSMSE test form under categories of: lips, tongue, jaw, teeth, hard palate, soft palate, pharynx, breathing, and diadochokinesis. Results of a preliminary study with normal speaking subjects indicated that the OSMSE had satisfactory intra- and inter-examiner reliability after minimal training. The time required to administer the examination typically ranged from 5 to 10 minutes. (Author/GK)
