Book Describing the Shuttle Leadership Model of Second Level Indigenous Leaders in Fiji

Download or read book Describing the Shuttle Leadership Model of Second Level Indigenous Leaders in Fiji written by Vernon Cox and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this grounded theory study was to describe the leadership model second level Indigenous Fijian leaders employ to shuttle between villagers and Westerners. This type of systematic design approach is appropriate due to the requirement to gain a deep understanding of the perceptions of this South Pacific leadership community. The Indigenous Fijian leaders shuttled from a pre-colonial to colonial to post-colonial society without losing their established methods of leadership or land ownership. This method of shuttling was accomplished without debilitating regional conflict. The terms politeness, food gathering, people mapping, love, village interaction, and volunteerism were revealed as positive personal definitions of the shuttle model used by Fijian Indigenous second level leaders. In conjunction, the personal definition rudeness was the negative term associated with the shuttle model used by Fijian Indigenous second level leaders.

Book Developing School Leaders in the Pacific

Download or read book Developing School Leaders in the Pacific written by Narsamma Lingam and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-10-02 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides detailed insights on the training and development for Pacific Island school leaders. It draws extensively on original empirical research that explores school leaders’ perceptions of how leadership and management training impacted their professional practices, and how these practices in turn impacted the dynamics of school operations. This book addresses a critical need to understand how to support leadership development for all Pacific schools, but especially in schools that are faced with the increasing challenges of learning and teaching conditions. In small island developing states in the Pacific region, school leaders face a myriad of challenges due to limited human and material resources, and a fragile economic base. Written by Pacific Islander authors, this book provides insights from different countries in the Pacific Islands. It shows how contextual challenges can exert enormous pressure on school leaders who are leading and managing schools without any leadership preparation. Given the importance of effective leadership practices and its impact on student learning outcomes, this book aims to be a source of reference for practitioners and educational authorities who have a vested interest in the provision of quality education in the Pacific region and beyond.

Book Fishing for Human Perceptions in Coastal and Island Marine Resource Use Systems 2nd Edition

Download or read book Fishing for Human Perceptions in Coastal and Island Marine Resource Use Systems 2nd Edition written by Annette Breckwoldt and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2019-06-07 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human perceptions, decision-making and (pro-) environmental behaviour are closely connected. This Research Topic focuses on bringing together perceptions and behaviour for sustainable coastal and island marine resource use systems. Management and governance of (large and small-scale) coastal marine resource use systems function in highly complex social and ecological environments, which are culturally embedded, economically interest-led and politically biased. Management processes therefore have to integrate multiple perspectives as well as perception-driven standpoints on the individual as well as the decision-makers’ levels. Consequently, the analysis of perceptions has developed not only as part of philosophy and psychology but also of environmental science, anthropology and human geography. It encompasses intuitions, values, attitudes, thoughts, mind-sets, place attachments and sense of place. All of these influence human behavior and action, and are collected or are available within the respective marine resource use system, which may support the livelihood of a large part of the local population. Management and governance are not only about mediating between resource use conflicts or establishing marine protected areas, they deal with people and their ideas and perceptions. Understanding the related decision-making processes on multiple scales and levels hence means much more than economically assessing the available marine resources or existing threats to the associated system. Over the past decade, there has been a growing inter- and transdisciplinary international community becoming interested in research which integrates perceptions of coastal and inland residents, local and regional stakeholder groups, as well as resource and environmental managers and decision-makers. By acknowledging the importance of the individual perspective and interest-led personal views, it became obvious how valuable and important these sources of information are for coastal research. An increase of research effort spent on the link between perceptions and behaviour in marine resource use systems is thus both timely and needed. By offering a diversity of inspiring and comprehensive contributions on the link between perceptions and behaviour, this Research Topic aspires to critically enlighten the discourse and applicability of such research for finding sustainable, locally identified, anchored and integrated marine resource use pathways.

Book The Impact of National Culture on Leadership Perception

Download or read book The Impact of National Culture on Leadership Perception written by Alia Maria Habib Chaaraoui and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The impact of national culture on leadership perception is a subject that has be en mostly investigated in Western nations. In Arab and Middle-Eastern cultures, only very few studies have explored this topic. In this respect, and after revie wing the literature, we designed a customized survey and submitted it to a repre sentative sample of the Lebanese active population. We then used the findings of the questionnaire to understand the relationship between culture and leadership perception while relying on previous literature and research around the subject . The core emphasis of this study was on investigating about the types of relation ships that exist between transformational leadership and the Lebanese culture. T he national culture in Lebanon was assessed along with the individuals' attribut ion of leadership process. It has then be found that there are certain component s of transformational leadership that are particularly affected by certain cultu ral dimensions. Indeed, horizontal individualism and collectivism are particular ly relevant to the explanation of this phenomenon. Three major constituents of t ransformational leadership have been derived from our study. Each of these revea led to be linked to either both horizontal individualism and collectivism or to horizontal individualism only. The investigation of this topic in the Lebanese c ulture has proved that cultural dimensions are understood globally whereas trans formational leadership perceptions may vary across nations. While transformation al leadership concepts are engraved in Lebanese individuals' minds, we assumed t hat probably a different set of questions would better fit the Lebanese mentalit y and their understanding of leadership.
