Book Perception of Adolescents Towards Reproductive Health

Download or read book Perception of Adolescents Towards Reproductive Health written by Kaur Rupinder and published by Independent Author. This book was released on 2023-03-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increased self-understanding, identity exploration, physical and emotional changes, development of intimate relationships outside home, increased dependency on friends, dilemmas, arguments with parents are all hallmarks of adolescent development. Awareness of ones sexual development, romantic relations with the member of opposite sex, curiosity and experimentation along with inadequate information and the preference for unreliable sources of information on puberty and sex, can pose a serious threat to the physical, emotional and social well being of adolescents. With adults admitting their embarrassment and unpreparedness to handle the growing sexual interests of their adolescent child and with the ever increasing number of adolescents who indulge in risk taking behaviours like pre-marital and unprotected intercourse, the need to know and understand adolescents and to inculcate a sense of responsibility in them is of utmost importance. For this, it becomes even more important to know the meaning of reproductive health and sexuality and also to know the meaning of the aforementioned concepts as understood by adolescents. This would, in turn, help to explore and know what adolescents perceive of reproductive health, sexuality and related issues. These concepts and the issues related to adolescent sexuality and risk taking and the spheres of influence that affect and shape adolescent sexuality, as discussed in the following pages, form the bases of the present research.

Book Sexual and Reproductive Health of Adolescents with Disabilities

Download or read book Sexual and Reproductive Health of Adolescents with Disabilities written by Tafadzwa Rugoho and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-12-12 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates various experiences of teaching sexual and reproductive health to adolescents with disabilities. Following the adoption of the UNCRPD, adolescents with disabilities still commonly suffer from widespread violation of their rights particularly concerning sexual and reproductive health – often being viewed as either asexual or hypersexual. Contemporary societies do not readily encourage the participation of these young people in conversations or decision making processes concerning their own sexual and reproductive health. This book delves into such complex issues, critically examining how global communities attempt to teach sexual and reproductive issues to adolescents with disabilities in the modern era.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adolescence is a time of major transition, however, health care services in the United States today are not designed to help young people develop healthy routines, behaviors, and relationships that they can carry into their adult lives. While most adolescents at this stage of life are thriving, many of them have difficulty gaining access to necessary services; other engage in risky behaviors that can jeopardize their health during these formative years and also contribute to poor health outcomes in adulthood. Missed opportunities for disease prevention and health promotion are two major problematic features of our nation's health services system for adolescents. Recognizing that health care providers play an important role in fostering healthy behaviors among adolescents, Adolescent Health Services examines the health status of adolescents and reviews the separate and uncoordinated programs and services delivered in multiple public and private health care settings. The book provides guidance to administrators in public and private health care agencies, health care workers, guidance counselors, parents, school administrators, and policy makers on investing in, strengthening, and improving an integrated health system for adolescents.

Book Adolescent Girls Awareness Rights and Reproductive Health

Download or read book Adolescent Girls Awareness Rights and Reproductive Health written by N. Chhabra and K. Koradia D. K. Narang and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The basic approach of this book has been shaped by our own research, professional and personal experience as teachers and researchers. We aimed for a text that includes complexities of adolescent age intervention which will be relevant and useful in bridging a gap between theory and research on adolescent's lives. Proper knowledge imparted during adolescent age has positive impact on the adolescent's development than at any other time in life. It is imperative to maximize both the amount and quality of knowledge that adolescents receive which will ensure a strong foundation for future learning. The text approaches adolescents as a comprehensive, integrated experience, one that takes place through their perception rather than through a formal adult directed approach. The need for parents, caretakers, teachers, who can integrate nature and education, using adolescent's knowledge and perception as the integrators is also highlighted. The text focuses on the awareness needs of adolescents for their reproductive health. Expanded and updated discussions on the sexual issues, rights, current research studies on the impact of intervention on the knowledge and perception have been dealt. The intervention package is prepared which is suitable to the immediate environment, culture, education and age of adolescent girls. It can be useful for training of health workers, teachers and participation of parents. In addition, the content of book highlights the interacting contribution of biology to the development of adolescent girls, explains how the intervention process helps adolescents to utilize reproductive rights for their well being.

Book Adolescent Risk and Vulnerability

Download or read book Adolescent Risk and Vulnerability written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2001-11-08 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adolescents obviously do not always act in ways that serve their own best interests, even as defined by them. Sometimes their perception of their own risks, even of survival to adulthood, is larger than the reality; in other cases, they underestimate the risks of particular actions or behaviors. It is possible, indeed likely, that some adolescents engage in risky behaviors because of a perception of invulnerabilityâ€"the current conventional wisdom of adults' views of adolescent behavior. Others, however, take risks because they feel vulnerable to a point approaching hopelessness. In either case, these perceptions can prompt adolescents to make poor decisions that can put them at risk and leave them vulnerable to physical or psychological harm that may have a negative impact on their long-term health and viability. A small planning group was formed to develop a workshop on reconceptualizing adolescent risk and vulnerability. With funding from Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Workshop on Adolescent Risk and Vulnerability: Setting Priorities took place on March 13, 2001, in Washington, DC. The workshop's goal was to put into perspective the total burden of vulnerability that adolescents face, taking advantage of the growing societal concern for adolescents, the need to set priorities for meeting adolescents' needs, and the opportunity to apply decision-making perspectives to this critical area. This report summarizes the workshop.

Book Contraceptive Use Among Adolescents

  • Author : Joyce Kinaro
  • Publisher : LAP Lambert Academic Publishing
  • Release : 2015-10-02
  • ISBN : 9783659777509
  • Pages : 284 pages

Download or read book Contraceptive Use Among Adolescents written by Joyce Kinaro and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-10-02 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contraceptive use among teenagers is low worldwide and little is known about factors that underlie the low use of contraceptives among adolescents aged 15-19 years. Similarly, little is known and documented about the perceptions of the adolescents regarding access and use of contraceptives. This book is based on an intensive study on contraceptive use among adolescents aged 15-19 years. The book identifies perceptions and barriers that affect contraceptive use among female and male adolescents useful to guide policy and programmes. The results of the study documented in this book were achieved through use of several methods of data collection: adolescents' respondent interviews, focus group discussions and in-depth interviews with parents of adolescents and teachers of schools attended by those adolescents. The analysis should help shed light on sexuality information, perceptions and barriers to contraceptive use among adolescents and should especially be useful for parents, teachers, reproductive health and population program managers and policy makers.

Book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 2

Download or read book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 2 written by Robert Black and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2016-04-11 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evaluation of reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH) by the Disease Control Priorities, Third Edition (DCP3) focuses on maternal conditions, childhood illness, and malnutrition. Specifically, the chapters address acute illness and undernutrition in children, principally under age 5. It also covers maternal mortality, morbidity, stillbirth, and influences to pregnancy and pre-pregnancy. Volume 3 focuses on developments since the publication of DCP2 and will also include the transition to older childhood, in particular, the overlap and commonality with the child development volume. The DCP3 evaluation of these conditions produced three key findings: 1. There is significant difficulty in measuring the burden of key conditions such as unintended pregnancy, unsafe abortion, nonsexually transmitted infections, infertility, and violence against women. 2. Investments in the continuum of care can have significant returns for improved and equitable access, health, poverty, and health systems. 3. There is a large difference in how RMNCH conditions affect different income groups; investments in RMNCH can lessen the disparity in terms of both health and financial risk.
