Book The Power of Perception

Download or read book The Power of Perception written by Shawn Andrews and published by Morgan James Publishing. This book was released on 2017-12-18 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Power of Perception: Leadership, Emotional Intelligence and the Gender Divide serves as a practical guide to educate women, men and organizations on the barriers that keep women from fully contributing in the workplace. These include differences in leadership style and emotional intelligence, gender bias and stereotypes, breadwinner and caregiver responsibilities, and differences in gender culture which show up every day at work and home. The Power of Perception also explores significant changes in global demographic trends and how our youngest generations are impacting the workplace. The Power of Perception clearly illustrates the reasons that we don’t see more women leading our global businesses. It has nothing to do with women’s skills and competencies and everything to do with perceptions of women as leaders, as workers, as mothers, and as wives. These perceptions have a significant impact on promotion for many women. Perception is reality—and it’s powerful. The Power of Perception provides personal stories of women’s journeys, real-world examples, and is based on the author’s own research as well as that of many others. Every chapter includes practical, easy-to-apply strategies, summary points, and reflection questions to empower women, men, and organizations to fully leverage talent and diversity.

Book excerpt: A groundbreaking popular psychology book that explores the deep connection between our body and our brain. Over decades of study, University of Virginia psychologist Dennis Proffitt has shown that we are each living our own personal version of Gulliver’s Travels, where the size and shape of the things we see are scaled to the size of our bodies, and our ability to interact with them. Stairs look less steep as dieters lose weight, baseballs grow bigger the better players hit, hills look less daunting if you’re standing next to a close friend, and learning happens faster when you can talk with your hands. Written with journalist Drake Baer, Perception marries academic rigor with mainstream accessibility. The research presented and the personalities profiled will show what it means to not only have, but be, your unique human body. The positive ramifications of viewing ourselves from this embodied perspective include greater athletic, academic, and professional achievement, more nourishing relationships, and greater personal well-being. The better we can understand what our bodies are—what they excel at, what they need, what they must avoid—the better we can live our lives.

Book Leap of Perception

Download or read book Leap of Perception written by Penney Peirce and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2013-05-21 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intuition and transformation expert Penney Peirce helps you understand how a profound shift in perception can result in personal and societal transformation. She shows you how to develop the new “attention skills” that will allow you to thrive in the new Intuition Age. Building on the first two books in the Peirce’s Transformation series, Leap of Perception, with a foreword by Martha Beck, is a comprehensive guide to understanding—and navigating—the “paradigm shift.” The Information Age is accelerating to a point where life will soon make a “leap” into the Intuition Age, where the abilities of the analytical left brain balance with the vast intuitive wisdom and visionary capacity of the right brain. The resulting reality will function by different rules, and we’ll become a new kind of human being. We’ll live in a vast present moment, closer to the speed of light, aware of much more than we ever were before. You will learn to materialize the situations—and outcomes—you want, resolve conflict in relationships, expand your creativity, reduce exhaustion and anxiety from multitasking, ease fear caused by the transformation process, work with the collective unconscious, and develop new skills like telepathy, clairvoyance, applied empathy, rapid healing, and more.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Breaking the Spell: An Exploration of Human Perception examines how people have become largely disconnected from a living, energetic universe through social conditioning. Over generations humanity has lost much of its creative spirit, imagination, and perceptual faculties. In this book the author addresses how we should 'break the spell' of our conditioned perceptions and learn to manage and develop our emotional, mental, and physical energies. Through such chapters as Managing One's Energy, Being Vigilant, and Stepping Away, the author explains in very simple language the necessity for each person to regain their focus, inner calm, and to observe the chaotic impacts that surround them. The author also discusses how a person can refine their perceptions through inner intent. The book also contains an inspiring collection of thoughts; and an Appendix on the misunderstandings of modern day spirituality. In these distracting times it is imperative that each person learns to empower themselves by learning to harness and develop their personal energies. This timely book explains just how to 'break the spell' of our hypnotic world. , ,

Book The Reliability of Sense Perception

Download or read book The Reliability of Sense Perception written by William P. Alston and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2018-07-05 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why suppose that sense perception is an accurate source of information about the physical environment? More generally, is it possible to demonstrate that our basic ways of forming beliefs are reliable? In this book, a leading analytic philosopher confronts this classic problem through detailed investigation of sense perception, the source of beliefs in which we place the most confidence. Carefully assessing the available arguments, William P. Alston concludes that it is not possible to show in any noncircular way that sense perception is a reliable source of beliefs. Alston thoroughly examines the main arguments that have been advanced for the reliability of sense perception, including arguments from the various kinds of success we achieve by relying on the sense perception, arguments that some features of our sense experience are best explained by supposing that it is an accurate guide, and arguments that there is something conceptually incoherent about the idea that sense perception is not reliable. He concludes that all of these arguments that are not disqualified in other ways are epistemically circular, for they use premises based upon the very source in question. Alston then suggest that the most appropriate response to the impossibility of showing that our basic sources of beliefs are reliable is an appeal to the practical rationality of engaging in certain socially established belief-forming practices. The Reliability of Sense Perception will be welcome by epistemologists, cognitive scientists, and philosophers of science.
