Book excerpt: This bibliography contains unclassified abstracts of selected Technical Documentary Reports issued by the Decision Sciences Laboratory, Electronics System Division, Air Force Systems Command, during 1954 through 1962. The major areas comprising the Laboratory's mission are the perform ance of behavioral science research, development, and testing to advance command and control system technology, and the implementation of research findings to improve the design and performance of Command and Control Systems. The bibliography contains three indices, cross-referencing the reports by author, by organization, and by specialized categories: (1) Statistics, Measurements and Methods, (2) Psychophysical Research (Audition and Vision), (3) Perception and Cognition, (4) Learning and Training, (5) Group Processes, (6) Psycholinguistics, (7) Systems Research (Design and Analysis, Human Engineering, Personnel, Test and Evaluation, Training), (8) Bibliographies, Handbooks, and Indexes, and (9) Equipment. Book Analysis and Integration of Behavioral Units

Download or read book Analysis and Integration of Behavioral Units written by Michael D. Zeiler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-07-07 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1986, this volume was the result of a conference in honor of the 65th birthday of the late Kenneth MacCorquodale, an exceptionally eloquent spokesman for the field of experimental analysis of behaviour at the time. The present volume grew directly out of the issues raised by MacCorquodale and Meehl in their "Excursis: The Response Concept" paper and which MacCorquodale posed so often when he taught. It is a fitting tribute to the man on his 65th birthday that a group of scholars whom he held in the highest regard convened in one place to think out loud about two of the thorniest problems facing behavioral science, namely, the nature of the units of analysis of the subject matter and the mechanisms responsible for their integration.

Book Animal Psychophysics the design and conduct of sensory experiments

Download or read book Animal Psychophysics the design and conduct of sensory experiments written by William C. Stebbins and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In May of 1969, the contributors to this book gathered at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor for three days to talk about their work in the behavioral analysis of animal sensory function and to share their research experiences in the laboratory with particular emphasis on methodology in behavioral training, testing, and instrumentation. It was their feeling and mine as a consequence of this meeting that we had sufficient substance to justify a book which we hoped would be of interest and even of pragmatic value to any biologic or biomedical scientist whose work deals with sensory function. Clearly, there is no aspect of an organism's behavior that is not to some extent con trolled by environmental stimuli. In recent years, due in large part to technical advances in microscopy and histology and in electrophysiology, there have been several extremely informative published proceedings from conferences and symposia concerned with some of the early and very basic stages in the reception of environmental energy by the sense organs and its processing by the nervous system. Transduction at the receptor and stimulus coding by the nervous system, cell membrane changes, and the basic structure of the receptor and related tissue as seen through the electron and phase contrast microscope have received major attention, and exciting new discoveries in sen sory function and structure have been reported. Ultimately, such discoveries must be related to an intact behaving organism.

Book Cognitive Foundations of Clinical Psychology Psychology Revivals

Download or read book Cognitive Foundations of Clinical Psychology Psychology Revivals written by Chris R. Brewin and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-12-16 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1988, this was the first textbook to review and integrate the cognitive theories underlying the practice of modern clinical psychology. Written in a clear and readable way, it uses many clinical examples to relate the theories to what therapists actually do. It describes the strengths and weaknesses of the theories and develops a common framework drawn from research in social and cognitive psychology to explain the mechanisms of behavioural and cognitive therapy. Among the topics covered are the validity of self-reports; experimental investigations of nonconscious processes; cognitive theories of conditioning; the relation between cognition and emotional disorders such as anxiety and depression; self-esteem and the development of self-schema; self-efficacy; explanation and causal attribution; personal values and goals; self-regulation and the techniques of cognitive therapy. This textbook is designed for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate courses in clinical and abnormal psychology. Its practical focus will also make it of particular interest to practising clinical psychologists, psychiatrists and other mental health professionals.

Book Nonlinear Contingency Analysis

Download or read book Nonlinear Contingency Analysis written by T. V. Joe Layng and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-10-26 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Contingency Analysis is a guide to treating clinically complex behavior problems such as delusions and hallucinations. It’s also a framework for treating behavior problems, one that explores solutions based on the creation of new or alternative consequential contingencies rather than the elimination or deceleration of old or problematic thoughts, feelings, or behaviors. Chapters present strategies, analytical tools, and interventions that clinicians can use in session to think about clients’ problems using decision theory, experimental analysis of behavior, and clinical research and practice. By treating thoughts and emotions not as causes of behavior but as indicators of the environmental conditions that are responsible for them, patients can use that knowledge to make changes that not only result in changes in behavior, but in the thoughts and feelings themselves.
