En los capítulos IX al XI se abordan las cuestiones relativas a los diques de materiales sueltos, los más frecuentes en estos casos, sus tipologías, el cálculo de la estabilidad de los taludes, los aliviaderos y las tomas de agua. El capítulo XII está íntegramente dedicado al proyecto y construcción de balsas impermeabilizadas que, por su notable importancia para los riegos de las zonas mediterránea e insulares de España, se incluye casi como independiente, aunque con evidente relación con todo lo expuesto. Finalmente, en el último capítulo se hace un resumen del tratamiento del impacto ambiental que debe contemplar el proyecto de este tipo de estructuras. Se incluyen numerosas fotografías, gráficos, tablas y ejemplos prácticos que completan el contenido de lo abordado a lo largo del texto. Al final de cada capítulo se hace referencia a la bibliografía básica correspondiente.
