Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarises current knowledge of the structure, function, biosynthesis and regulation of energy-transducing enzymes inmitochondria, chloroplasts and bacteria. Each of the twenty chapters is written by top experts in their field, and Prof. Ernster has ensured that the book as a whole gives a well-integrated picture of the present state of knowledge of the field at its different levels and complexities. Since the publication of Bioenergetics edited by Lars Ernster in 1984, (New Comprehensive Biochemistry Vol. 9) the whole field of bioenergetics has undergone a tremendous expansion. Additionally a transition from membrane bioenergetics to molecular bioenergetics has accompanied this expansion - due mainly to the spectacular progress in the field of molecular biology over the past twenty years.Hence this volume, Molecular Mechanisms in Bioenergetics, is certain to be of interest, not only to the specialist in bioenergetics, but also to researchers working in the various fields of biophysics, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, cell biology and physiology. Also of interest, this volume contains an historical introduction, including a list of earlier publications relating to the history of bioenergetics.

Book Nanolithography and Patterning Techniques in Microelectronics

Download or read book Nanolithography and Patterning Techniques in Microelectronics written by D Bucknall and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-09-30 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Techniques such as surface patterning have facilitated the emergence of advanced polymers with applications in areas such as microelectronics. Surface patterning of polymers has conventionally been undertaken by optical lithography. However, a new generation of nanolithographic and patterning techniques has made it possible to develop complex patterns at the nanoscale. Non-conventional lithography and patterning summarises this new range of techniques and their industrial applications.A number of chapters look at ways of forming and modifying surfaces for patterning. These are complemented by chapters on particular patterning techniques such as soft lithography, ion beam patterning, the use of nanostencils, photolithography and inkjet printing. The book also discusses prototyping and the manufacture of particular devices. With its distinguished international team of contributors, Non-conventional lithography and patterning is a standard reference for both those researching and using advanced polymers in such areas as microelectronics and biomedical devices. - Looks at alternative approaches used to develop complex patterns at the nanoscale - Concentrates on state of the art nanolithographic methods - Written by a distinguished international team of contributors

Book Parameter Advising for Multiple Sequence Alignment

Download or read book Parameter Advising for Multiple Sequence Alignment written by Dan DeBlasio and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-04 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops a new approach called parameter advising for finding a parameter setting for a sequence aligner that yields a quality alignment of a given set of input sequences. In this framework, a parameter advisor is a procedure that automatically chooses a parameter setting for the input, and has two main ingredients: (a) the set of parameter choices considered by the advisor, and (b) an estimator of alignment accuracy used to rank alignments produced by the aligner. On coupling a parameter advisor with an aligner, once the advisor is trained in a learning phase, the user simply inputs sequences to align, and receives an output alignment from the aligner, where the advisor has automatically selected the parameter setting. The chapters first lay out the foundations of parameter advising, and then cover applications and extensions of advising. The content • examines formulations of parameter advising and their computational complexity, • develops methods for learning good accuracy estimators, • presents approximation algorithms for finding good sets of parameter choices, and • assesses software implementations of advising that perform well on real biological data. Also explored are applications of parameter advising to • adaptive local realignment, where advising is performed on local regions of the sequences to automatically adapt to varying mutation rates, and • ensemble alignment, where advising is applied to an ensemble of aligners to effectively yield a new aligner of higher quality than the individual aligners in the ensemble. The book concludes by offering future directions in advising research.
