Book A Study of Penetration of a Liquid Injectant Into a Supersonic Flow

Download or read book A Study of Penetration of a Liquid Injectant Into a Supersonic Flow written by Kenneth P. Horn and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper reports a study of normal and lateral spray penetration for small diameter, high pressure, liquid jets issuing at an angle to a uniform supersonic stream. The experimental program described was carried out in a 4-in. by 4-in. blow down supersonic wind tunnel. The flow field is observed by means of a schlieren system, and the spray distribution is indicated by the light scattered by the liquid droplets. The data on normal penetration, in good agreement with data inferred from other investigations, indicate that a single-parameter correlation exists between the properly nondimensionalized penetration height and the injection pressure ratio. Injecting the coolant at a forward angle to the flow produces no substantial change in the penetration height. The data on lateral penetration show the spray width behind the jet to be proportional to the jet diameter with only a weak dependence on the injection pressure ratio. Analytical models proposed by previous investigators are critically examined in light of the results. No single model leads to a proper scaling law for both normal and lateral penetration. (Author).

Book An Experimental Investigation of Methods to Increase the Liquid Jet Penetration Into Supersonic Flow

Download or read book An Experimental Investigation of Methods to Increase the Liquid Jet Penetration Into Supersonic Flow written by S. I. Baranovsky and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main aim of this experimental work was a detailed study of the influence of injection angle on the penetration and break-up of liquid fuel jets in a supersonic air stream. A particular goal was to incorporate that variable into the penetration correlations previously developed at VPI. This was accomplished. A secondary aim of the work was to assess the performance of liquid fuel jet injection from the top of a slender strut that protrudes out into the flow. This is one method that has been suggested for the 'mechanical' enhancement of penetration. The penetration behavior was found to be similar to that associated with injection from a flat plate. A result of particular interest was the discovery of waves with amazingly sharp crests on the windward side of the jets for downstream angled injection.

Book Effect of Injector Geometry on Penetration Spread and Structure of a Liquid Jet Injected Normal to a Supersonic Air Stream

Download or read book Effect of Injector Geometry on Penetration Spread and Structure of a Liquid Jet Injected Normal to a Supersonic Air Stream written by Prakash Bhaskarra Joshi and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of injector geometry on the penetration, width and structure of a liquid jet injected normal to a supersonic air stream was experimentally studied. Circular, rectangular and square injectors of four different port areas were tested over a wide range of jet/free stream dynamic pressure ratio. For the rectangular injectors, both aligned and transverse configurations with respect to the cross flow were studied. The penetration and width data were obtained from streak photographs and the jet structure was examined using spark photomicrographs. Correlations for jet penetration and width were developed by analyzing the jet as a blunt body in supersonic flow. The effect of injector geometry was taken into account by an experimentally obtained factor. (Modified author abstract).

Book Jet in Supersonic Crossflow

Download or read book Jet in Supersonic Crossflow written by Mingbo Sun and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-18 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on research into jets in supersonic crossflow carried out by the authors’ team over the past 15 years, this book summarizes and presents many cutting-edge findings and analyses on this subject. It tackles the complicated mixing process of gas jets and atomization process of liquid jets in supersonic crossflow, and studies their physical mechanisms. Advanced experimental and numerical techniques are applied to further readers’ understanding of atomization, mixing, and combustion of fuel jets in supersonic crossflow, which can promote superior fuel injection design in scramjet engines. The book offers a valuable reference guide for all researchers and engineers working on the design of scramjet engines, and will also benefit graduate students majoring in aeronautical and aerospace engineering.
