Chronicling the evolution of America's largest music labels from the Tin Pan Alley days to the present day, Fredric Dannen examines in depth the often venal, sometimes illegal dealings among the assorted hustlers and kingpins who rule over this multi-billion-dollar business.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if we could no longer trust DNA profiling, the silver bullet of our criminal justice system? For years, we’ve relied on it to solve decades-old crimes, convict the guilty, and liberate the innocent from death row. But what happens to that trust when a crime lab scientist is leaned on to manipulate the evidence or, worse still, lose it altogether? Ruthless Seattle mayor, Patti Rainsford, announces her candidacy for state governor. She’ll do anything to succeed. When her son is arrested for the rape and assault of a seventeen-year-old girl, Rainsford’s political career is in jeopardy. Detective Linda Farrell is assigned to investigate. After twelve years working in SPD’s sexual assault unit, her career is drifting, not helped by the single-minded detective’s contempt for police protocol and the pressure of her failing marriage. The high-profile rape case is a rare chance to shine and maybe even get her life back on track. Nothing will stop her seeking justice for the young victim. With a mountain of personal debt and his wife’s business on a knife-edge, Clark Stanton is facing financial meltdown. Then a stranger offers him a lifeline in return for a favor. As the manager of Seattle’s crime lab, all Clark has to do is make the rape kit evidence against the mayor’s son go away. Praise for CRIME AND JUSTICE: “Martin Bodenham’s new Seattle-based thriller hits the ground running and doesn’t let up for a minute. Crime and Justice has gripping page-turner in every bit of its DNA. A compelling tale of one policewoman’s determination to seek the truth in the face of corruption and corrupted evidence.” —Andy Griffee, author of the Johnson and Wilde crime mystery series “In Crime and Justice, Martin Bodenham has crafted a finely tuned, intelligent thriller with an engaging cast of characters. Full of corruption, back-stabbing, and plot twists, this is a novel you won’t want to miss.” —Chris Rhatigan, publisher of All Due Respect Books “Grips you from the very first page and doesn’t let you go! Sinister and compelling, with a conclusion you won’t see coming.” —Derek Thompson, author of Long Shadows and The Complete Thomas Bladen Thrillers

Book Tierck Clafsen DeWitt and Descendants of His Son Luycas DeWitt

Download or read book Tierck Clafsen DeWitt and Descendants of His Son Luycas DeWitt written by Vona (DeWitt) Smith and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The DeWitt genealogy is a fascinating study of 26 generations of the family from 1293 to the present. This work is the collaboration of descendants of the three children of Leucas, ninth child of Tierck Clafsen DeWitt. American Ambassador Lester DeWitt Ballor of UEL descent obtained a copy from The Royal Library of the Hague of Beschayving DerStad Dordrecht by Mattys Balen, Jans Zoon published in 1677. This information provided the first thirteen generations in Holland. He also received a 32-page copy of a lawsuit in 1684 by Jan DeWitt on behalf of his brother Tierck for rent owned by Pieter Janz, their sister Faelde's husband. The property was land inherited by Tierck from his father Nicholaas. It provided information on her mother Taetje Cornelisz, her father, brothers and their shipyard.

Book Heinkel He 177 Units of World War 2

Download or read book Heinkel He 177 Units of World War 2 written by Robert Forsyth and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-07-26 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many ways, the Heinkel He 177 'Greif' (Griffon) was Nazi Germany's 'lost' strategic bomber. With some fundamental creases ironed out, and built in large numbers, the He 177 would have offered the Luftwaffe the means with which to carry out long-range, mass bombing attacks against targets of a strategic nature. Although competing interests and personalities served to prevent this from happening, from mid-1943 the aircraft nevertheless saw service over England, the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and in Russia. The He 177 flew to the end of the war, with some machines undertaking extremely hazardous low-level missions against Soviet armour in Poland in late 1944-45. This fascinating book, filled with detailed artwork and contemporary photographs, tells the story of this aircraft, including the political infighting at the top of the Luftwaffe's hierarchy that stymied its development, its radical technical design and its state-of-the-art weaponry.
