Book Families the Environment Sports and Competition

Download or read book Families the Environment Sports and Competition written by David Cook Publishers and published by David C Cook. This book was released on 2000-06 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's All in the Family . . . The word "family" has a very different meaning today than it did not much more than ten years ago. It used to be the "family" meant two parents and their children all living together, often with the father being the provider and the mother the homemaker. Today, fewer children live in that kind of family. No doubt in your class you have some kids who live in single-parent homes or step-families, or at least one child who is living in an abusive situation. In America today, many millions of our children are experiencing great stress in the setting that God intended to be the source of love, security, and teaching about life. Even children who live in two parent families are often anxious about the possibility of a divorce happening in their families, and those who have experienced divorce or abuse struggle to cope with their situations. This unit will address some of these issues, giving your students a safe place to talk about any concerns they may have about their families. It will also present perspective by reassuring them that there are no perfect families and that they can enjoy living in their families when they learn that everyone has to work hard to make a family special. You will also have an opportunity to share with them the privilege they have to belong to God's family, and show them how they can respond to God's invitation to do so. and

Book Living Life and the Struggle for Virtue

Download or read book Living Life and the Struggle for Virtue written by Tab McKenzie and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2023-05-09 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A once famous philosopher named Montaigne warned that using oneself as the subject to write about is only pardonable when the person is famous and exceptional, and I am certainly not. However, I was motivated to write this book to relieve my conscience by sharing some of my most private thoughts about some of life’s most important topics with my family and friends since I failed to communicate with them adequately in person on these matters. It has always been easier for me to express such intimate thoughts in writing. Since I am now in my last stage of living life, I thought it was time to share my thoughts on what I believe is most important in living life and that is Religion, Philosophy (how to live life well), and Politics. I don’t believe that politics is that important to living a good life, but it has become such a divisive force in our world that I decided it was worth discussing. There are many writers and speakers concerning these topics that I have observed and contemplated over my many years. But my book relies heavily on the teachings of Jesus regarding my religious beliefs and the philosopher Montaigne in my discussion on living life well (or better). In the POLITICS section of the book, I highlight my thoughts and beliefs about the priorities, values, and perspective a Christian should consider when engaging in the political process. The essence of my book is to highlight my belief about what is the PURPOSE of our existence. I think most people are seeking the answer to this question--- For me, it is the struggle for Virtue.

Download or read book Posthumanity written by Brian Cooney and published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. This book was released on 2004-05-26 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Posthumanity, Brian Cooney examines this philosophically turbulent era, in which the products of our latest technology will include a new kind of reality, new kinds of minds, and new sorts of bodies for those minds. Until now, major technological innovations have always had an important effect on human history. But our newest technology will alter the human animal to such an extent that the next era could end up being posthuman. Posthumanity introduces key concepts in philosophy in a creative and provocative manner guaranteed to engage the attention of first-year students and other newcomers to the study of philosophy. Using examples from films, television, and science fiction, Cooney advances a fascinating and original argument about technology while simultaneously acquainting students with the foundations of philosophy.

Book The Aesthetics of Loss

  • Author : Claudia Siebrecht
  • Publisher : OUP Oxford
  • Release : 2013-09-19
  • ISBN : 0191630675
  • Pages : 208 pages

Download or read book The Aesthetics of Loss written by Claudia Siebrecht and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2013-09-19 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Aesthetics of Loss is a cultural history of German women's art of the First World War that locates the artists' rich visual testimony in the context of the civilian experience of war and wartime loss. Drawing on a fascinating body of visual sources produced throughout the war years, Claudia Siebrecht examines the thematic evolution of women's art from expressions of support for the war effort to more nuanced and ambivalent testimonies of loss and grief. Many of the images are stark woodcuts, linocuts, and lithographs of great iconographical power that acted as narrative tools to deal with the novel, unsettling, and often traumatic experience of war. German female artists developed a unique aesthetic response to the conflict that both expressed emotional distress and allowed them to re-imagine the place of mourning women in wartime society. Historical codes of wartime behaviour and traditional rites of public mourning led female artists to redefine cultural practices of bereavement, question existing notions of heroic death and proud bereavement through art, and to place grief at the centre of women's war experiences. As a cultural, aesthetic, and thematic point of reference, German women's art of the First World War has had a fundamental influence on the European memory and understanding of modern war.
