Desde diferentes perspectivas y realizaciones, el quehacer científico, académico y profesional de la pedagogía social se ha vinculado históricamente a tales tareas, mediante las que se han activado teorías y prácticas educativas sustentadas en una clara e inequívoca vocación socializadora, en la que “lo social” se nos presenta como contexto, texto y pretexto de una educación integral e integradora a la que distintos avatares insisten en nombrar como educación social. A los fundamentos científicos, históricos y praxiológicos de esta pedagogía-educación social se remite este libro, cuyos argumentos principales no obvian las tensiones y debates que han ido perfilando su estatuto epistemológico, pedagógico, axiológico e ideológico a lo largo del tiempo. Tampoco se inhiben ante las responsabilidades que ha ido contrayendo con el logro de un mejor futuro para la Humanidad, apostando por una educación de amplias miras que no se contradiga a sí misma: ni en sus propósitos crítico-reflexivos ni en sus prácticas emancipatorias.
