The first allows the reader to cross-reference given names, dates of birth and marginal citations; the second is an index of buried surnames. The Appendix, prepared by Austin S. Pease, clarifies a number of discrepancies in cataloging dates relating to the change from the Julian to Gregorian calendar, reprints the probate records of the estate of Robert Pease, Sen., provides a historical sketch of the town of Enfield, CT, and anecdotal information concerning several Pease ancestors and the Indians of New England. Portraits are liberally distributed throughout the text. The Early History of the Pease Family in America provides a more detailed historical sketch of the Pease family an d its role in the settlement of the region but is primarily a genealogical work. Chapters include: "Origin of the Pease Family"; "Boston Peases"; "John Pease of Salem Village"; "Origin of the Salem and Enfield Peases"; "Family of 'Latter' Robert Pease of Enfield, CT"; "New Jersey Pease"; "Martha's Vineyard Peases"; "Ludlow [MA] Peases"; "New Hampshire Peases"; "Captain Samuel Pease"; "Washington Co. [PA] Peases" and "Miscellaneous Families." The text contains three indices listing given names, buried surnames, and persons not within the family mentioned in the text.

The writer has not been induced to engage in this labor in expectation of sharing some great estate which had no legitimate heirs in the Fatherland to claim it - as has been frequently hinted; neither has he anticipated adequate compensation for the time, labor and expense incurred in accomplishing it; but rather from a desire to see a more certain, complete and permanent Register of our family name in this country - especially of those springing from our ancestor of the Enfield branch - thus bringing to each other's acquaintance a large circle of relatives which time and circumstances have scattered throughout our wide domain, and in other parts of the world; also as a tribute of respect to the memory of those whose pioneer lives, hardships and privations, and whose patriotism and piety, have procured and bequeathed to us a rich inheritance of civil and religious liberty. Furthermore it seemed important that the names and deeds of our ancestors and kindred, many of whom have bravely fallen in battle or died in camps, in the early and later wars of our country, should not be lost to future generations. Again, it appeared desirable and appropriate, that one who had seen and conversed with three and taken active part in religious worship with one of the grandsons of John Pease, Sen., should speak of the fathers to the present and coming generations. These considerations have led the writer to comply with a request to prepare for the press a genealogical record of the descendants of John Pease, Sen. He later married Margaret Rhodans who was born ca 1574. Robert was buried 16 May 1623 and his will proven 12 June 1623. He was buried in England. Margaret came to American with 2 of their sons, Robert and John, who immigrated in 1634 to Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts. Margaret died in Salem, September 1, 1644. Son, Robert, born 28 Oct. 1587, died in 1644 leaving a widow, Marie. Their children were: Robert, John, Nathaniel, Sarah, Mary and Isaac. Descendants lived in most of the United States, as well as in Canada, Nicaragua and Mexico.
