Download or read book My Journal written by Jason H. King and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-04-24 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book isnt all about me. My goodness! You are me silly! My image is yours and yours is mine. Who am I for? Im for all of me, and thats who Im going for every season. This journey is never ending. Soul, keep focus and alert, and yeah! I know it hurts dealing with these heated Emotions! Just know you and I are breathing the same air and walking above ground receiving an allowance I call peace for every work we do while wearing these clothes. Clothes? What clothes? What! you talking about these nice sneakers I have on? And this coat Im wearing? No Silly! Im talking about you! Well then lets talk about me? What I am saying is that you are not flesh? Then what am I? You are spirit. This body of flesh is sort a like for example a car. You know when you get into a nice car. Eyes only see how beautiful and how clean it is on the outside right? Right? I tell you when the driver of that car gets out wearing filthy visible clothes. Those minds that were once in awe of the car are now really, really stunned because that person is covered in dirt coming out of a brand new car.
Download or read book Peace Love Yoga written by Andrea R. Jain and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-07-28 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engaging with the growing popular and academic interest in the "spiritual but not religious," Andrea R. Jain explores the connections between the practices of global spirituality and aspects of neoliberal capitalism in Peace Love Yoga. "Personal growth," "self-care," and "transformation" are all tropes in the narrative of the spiritual identity Jain is concerned with. This "spirituality" is usually depicted as firmly countercultural: the term "alternative" (alternative health, alternative medicine, alternative spiritualities) is omnipresent. To the contrary, Jain argues, spiritual commodities, entrepreneurs, and consumers are quite mainstream and sometimes even conservative and nationalistic. Ranging from the transnational to the economic to the activist, Jain refuses the single narrative focus of most works on the SBNR; human phenomena that can be analyzed through a single lens or narrative are few and far between, and existing research in this area too often yields a suspiciously tidy story. The heart of the book includes sophisticated analyses of: two politically divergent but equally entrepreneurial and global-capitalist yoga gurus; "athleisure apparel" corporations, such as lululemon, that successfully market consumer goods as a purchased commitment to social justice; and therapeutically-focused applications of spirituality that concentrate on healing the broken person rather than undermining the system that broke that person in the first place. Many spiritual commodities, corporations, and entrepreneurs, Jain suggests, do actually acknowledge the problems of neoliberal capitalism and in fact subvert them; but they subvert them through mere gestures. From provocative taglines printed across t-shirts or packaging to calls for "conscious capitalism," commodification serves as a strategy through which subversion itself is colonized.

Download or read book Weekend Societies written by Graham St. John and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2017-01-12 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From massive raves sprouting around the London orbital at the turn of the 1990s to events operated under the control of corporate empires, EDM (Electronic Dance Music) festivals have developed into cross-genre, multi-city, transnational mega-events. From free party teknivals proliferating across Europe since the mid-1990s to colossal corporate attractions like Tomorrowland Electric Daisy Carnival and Stereosonic, and from transformational and participatory events like Burning Man and events in the UK outdoor psytrance circuit, to such digital arts and new media showcases as Barcelona's Sónar Festival and Montreal's MUTEK, dance festivals are platforms for a variety of arts, lifestyles, industries and policies. Growing ubiquitous in contemporary social life, and providing participants with independent sources of belonging, these festivals and their event-cultures are diverse in organization, intent and outcome. From ethically-charged and “boutique” events with commitments to local regions to subsidiaries of entertainment conglomerates touring multiple nations, EDM festivals are expressions of “freedoms” revolutionary and recreational. Centres of “EDM pop”, critical vectors in tourism industries, fields of racial distinction, or experiments in harm reduction, gifting culture, and co-created art, as this volume demonstrates, diversity is evident across management styles, performance legacies and modes of participation. Weekend Societies is a timely interdisciplinary volume from the emergent field of EDM festival and event-culture studies. Echoing an industry trend in world dance music culture from raves and clubs towards festivals, Weekend Societies features contributions from scholars of EDM festivals showcasing a diversity of methodological approaches, theoretical perspectives and representational styles. Organised in four sections: Dance Empires; Underground Networks; Urban Experiments; Global Flows, Weekend Societies illustrates how a complex array of regional, economic, social, cultural and political factors combine to determine the fate of EDM festivals that transpire at the intersections of the local and global.
