Book Pay and Retention of Marine Corps Aviators

Download or read book Pay and Retention of Marine Corps Aviators written by Peter F. Kostiuk and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report investigate the effect of pay on the retention of Marine Corps aviators. It uses a simplified version of the annualized cost of leaving (ACOL) model to estimate the impact of pay changes on the voluntary attrition of Marine aviators. The estimated pay effects are then used to evaluate the potential effect of three recent proposals to adjust the structure of Aviation Career Incentive Pay (ACIP). The analysis found that pay does have a significant effect on aviator retention. The estimated elasticity of attrition with respect to the pay differential is -0.26.(The elasticity gives the percentage change in attrition for a 1-percent change in pay.) The three proposed changes to ACIP evaluated by CNA would eliminate ACIP for officers with over 25 years of service (YOS), 20 YOS, or 12 YOS. Table I shows the associated costs and benefits of each alternative. The benefits are reduced ACIP payments, and the cost is the expense of training replacement pilots for those who will leave the military because of the pay change. The estimates show that each proposal will actually increase total expenditures once the replacement training costs are included. The aviator's decision to stay in the Marine corps is analyzed as an occupational choice, in which an individual chooses among a set of career opportunities, selecting the career that maximizes discounted lifetime earnings. For this study of aviators, the value of continuing in a military career is compared to the potential earnings of civilian airline pilots. Data form the military pay tables and on the average salaries of civilian airline pilots are used to calculate the expected present value of earnings over different lengths of time.

Book excerpt: This study revealed that, based on the survey results and historic Weapons and Tactics Instructors (WTI) population graphs, there is a clear storm on the horizon in regards to the future retention of aviator WTIs. The regression models created for this study demonstrated that the three most important retention factors are promotion opportunities, quality of life/work-life balance, and Aviator Continuation Pay.

Book Job Satisfaction Among United States Navy and Marine Corps Aviation Officers A Study of the Impact on Career Retention

Download or read book Job Satisfaction Among United States Navy and Marine Corps Aviation Officers A Study of the Impact on Career Retention written by Daniel J. Sullivan and published by . This book was released on 1998-09-01 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: United States Naval Aviation Officer retention has been identified by senior-level personnel managers as one of the largest challenges faced by the services in recent years. In robust economic times all branches of the armed forces face the challenge of retaining sufficient highly-trained volunteers. The aviation community is disproportionately affected due to the long lead time associated with aviation officer training and the potential for long-term lucrative civilian job opportunities compared with existing military pay and benefits. This study documents the development of a retention survey aimed to quantify Naval aviation officer attitudes towards job satisfaction and turnover intent. Previous research has indicated that measurements of job satisfaction are the most reliable predictor of one's intent to remain with an existing employer. To best understand this relationship, CART and logistic regression models are proposed to predict Naval aviation officer retention These model were developed using a principal components analysis of survey data elements. Work satisfaction and age were analyzed in terms of their impact as moderators of the relationship between job satisfaction and retention. Work Satisfaction factors were found to be significant in models that predicted turnover intent half again better than if one was to merely provide a sample estimate.

Book The Uniform Price Quality Adjusted Discount Auction for Aviation Continuation Pay

Download or read book The Uniform Price Quality Adjusted Discount Auction for Aviation Continuation Pay written by Christopher S. White and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This objective of this thesis is to explore the potential benefits realized by the Marine Corps if the current Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP) system is replaced with an auction mechanism that utilizes Quality Adjusted Discount (QUAD) methodology. The Uniform Price Quality Adjusted Discount Auction is designed to reduce the total cost of ACP while simultaneously increasing the overall quality of the aviators being retained. The goal of this study was to evaluate the existing ACP system and through experimentation, coupled with economical analyses, determine the feasibility of replacing the current system of assigning the aviator retention bonus with one that incorporates QUAD methodology. The QUAD auction mechanism caters to a wide range of individual reservation values resulting from various economic conditions. An ACP auction would reflect changing economic conditions, because aviators would reveal their true reservation values when bidding. Although an auction mechanism may not always result in a cost savings, it will ensure that the bonus amounts are set at the correct levels. If a QUAD auction were used in lieu of the current ACP system, Marine Corps manpower planners would have the flexibility to more cost effectively retain higher quality aviators while achieving Marine Corps aviator retention goals.

Farrell and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assesses DoD¿s use of cash incentives to recruit and retain highly qualified individuals for service in the armed forces. It: (1) identifies recent trends in DoD's use of enlistment and reenlistment bonuses; (2) assesses the extent to which the services have processes to determine which occupational specialties require bonuses and whether bonus amounts are optimally set; and (3) determines how much flexibility DoD has in managing selected special and incentive pays for officer and enlisted personnel. The report analyzed service data on bonuses and special and incentive pays, and reviewed relevant guidance and other documentation from DoD and the services. Charts and tables. Book Military Personnel

Download or read book Military Personnel written by Mark E. Gebicke and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2000-04 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DoD reported shortages of 2,000 pilots at the end of FY1998 and projected that shortages would continue for several years. Retaining qualified pilots is important to ensure that operational requirements can be met and to recoup the substantial investments the services make in training their pilots. This report reviews and identifies reasons for the military pilot shortages and offers solutions. It determined: the services' reported and projected estimates of their pilot shortages; the basis for the services' pilot requirements; key factors that account for the reported pilot shortages; and concerns that are causing pilots to consider leaving the military. Book The Effect of the Global War on Terror on Retention of Marine Corps Aviators

Download or read book The Effect of the Global War on Terror on Retention of Marine Corps Aviators written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis analyzes the retention of Marine Corps aviators before and after 9/11/2001. The retention analysis utilizes data from the Marine Corps' Total Force Data Warehouse (TFDW), the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) PERSTEMPO file, and Aviation Information Resources (AIR), Inc. The retention analysis focuses on how the increased operational tempo resulting from the Global War on Terror has affected the retention behavior of Marine aviators. Results indicate that the deployments resulting from the increased operational tempo post-9/11 have a negative effect on the retention of Marine aviators, as compared to the period before 9/11. The post-9/11 analysis reveals that as the number of deployments increases, non-hostile or hostile, the likelihood of retention decreases. Whereas Pre-9/11 aviators were not affected by deployments, the GWOT aviators have an increasingly negative response to deployments. This thesis provides several recommendations for reducing the effect of increased deployments on retention.
