Book Measurements Specifications and Achievement of Smoothness for Pavement Construction

Download or read book Measurements Specifications and Achievement of Smoothness for Pavement Construction written by James H. Woodstrom and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1990 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to construction engineers, pavement designers, contractors, and others interested in construction of new highway pavements with smooth surfaces. Information is provided on the various devices and specifications that are being used to obtain smooth pavements. The public rates a pavement primarily on its smooth-riding characteristics and highway agencies recognize that constructing smooth pavements results in fewer problems later and lower annual maintenance costs. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the devices and specifications highway agencies use to ensure that newly constructed pavements will provide a smooth ride.

Book Pavement Design and Materials

Download or read book Pavement Design and Materials written by A. T. Papagiannakis and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-05-29 with total page 660 pages. Book Public Perception of Pavement Rideability

Download or read book Public Perception of Pavement Rideability written by Scott Everett Arterburn and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To evaluate the public perception of pavements in Colorado, 24 individuals were driven over 69 pavement sections in the Denver Metro area. These individuals were asked to rate the pavement based on rideability and to determine whether that ride was acceptable or unacceptable. The 69 pavement sections that were rated include: 51 bituminous and 18 concrete sections, urban and rural roads, and 35 and 55 mph speed limits. These ratings were then scaled from 0 to 5, with 5 being the best ride. Using regression analysis, the scaled ratings were compared to the roughness of the pavement. The pavement roughness was measured by the Colorado Department of Highways using a Mays Index. The conclusions are: for bituminous pavements 10% of the public is unhappy at a present serviceability index of 2.50; for concrete pavements 10% of the public is unhappy at a present serviceability index of 2.21; and the public will tolerate rougher roads at slower speeds.
