Book Criminal Judicial Review

    Book Details:
  • Author : Piers von Berg
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2014-09-25
  • ISBN : 1782254218
  • Pages : 845 pages

Download or read book Criminal Judicial Review written by Piers von Berg and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 845 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a comprehensive guide to challenging decisions of criminal courts and public bodies in the criminal justice system using judicial review. Written by a team of criminal and public law practitioners, it considers claims for judicial review arising in the criminal justice system, which now represent a distinct area of public law. These claims are set apart by special considerations and rules; for example, on the limits of the High Court's jurisdiction or the availability of relief during ongoing proceedings. Criminal practitioners may lack the background to spot public law points. Equally, public law specialists may be unfamiliar with criminal law and types of issues that arise. Criminal Judicial Review is intended as a resource for both. The book deals with the principles, case law, remedies and, the practice and procedure for obtaining legal aid and costs. It will be of assistance to any practitioner preparing or responding to judicial review claims involving the following: - The Police and the Crown Prosecution Service. - Magistrates' courts, the Crown Court and Coroners. - Prisons and the Parole Board. - Statutory bodies such as the Independent Police Complaints Commission and the Legal Aid Agency. - Claimants who are children, young persons or have mental disorders. - The international dimension including extradition proceedings and European Union law. - Practical considerations such as CPR Part 54, remedies, legal aid and costs. From the Foreword by The Rt Hon Lord Judge “The book is offered in clear and simple style, focussing less on esoteric theoretical considerations and more on the practical needs of the practitioner. It brings together materials relating to public law with which a criminal specialist may be less well informed, and material relevant to the criminal justice processes which may not be immediately apparent to the public law specialist. It will assist with the preparation of arguments, and also enable submissions which are unarguable to be discarded. It will therefore provide valuable guidance in this broad and developing area of practice.”

Book Dating Acts in its Jewish and Greco Roman Contexts

Download or read book Dating Acts in its Jewish and Greco Roman Contexts written by Karl Leslie Armstrong and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-01-14 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been consistent apathy in recent years with regard to the long-standing debate surrounding the date of Acts. While the so-called majority of scholars over the past century have been lulled into thinking that Acts was written between 70 and 90 CE, the vast majority of recent scholarship is unanimously adamant that this middle-range date is a convenient, political compromise. Karl Armstrong argues that a large part of the problem relates to a remarkable neglect of historical, textual, and source-critical matters. Compounding the problem further are the methodological flaws among the approaches to the middle and late date of Acts. Armstrong thus demonstrates that a historiographical approach to the debate offers a strong framework for evaluating primary and secondary sources relating to the book of Acts. By using a historiographical approach, along with the support of modern principles of textual criticism and linguistics, the historical context of Acts is determined to be concurrent with a date of 62–63 CE.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE NO. 1 SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER Head back down to Clarkson Farm with the latest bestseller from our favourite welly-wearing wannabe farmer, Jeremy Clarkson ___________ Enthusiastic trainee farmer Jeremy Clarkson made just £144 in his first year at Diddly Squat Farm. This year he's determined to do better. Not because he now knows what he's doing. But because he's fed up of getting stick from Kaleb. Yet farming continues to be a challenge. For instance . . . · Loading a grain trailer was more demanding than flying an Apache gunship? · Cows were more dangerous than motor-racing? · It's easier to get planning permission to build a nuclear plant than to turn a barn into a restaurant? Jeremy's always got a plan. Loads of them. Often cunning. Not always greeted with wild enthusiasm by Kaleb and Cheerful Charlie, however . . . ___________ PRAISE FOR DIDDLY SQUAT 'Clarkson has done more for farmers in one series than Countryfile achieved in 30 years' James Rebanks, author of A Shepherd's Life 'Clarkson has showcased the passion, humour and personalities of the people who work throughout the year to grow the nation's food . . . and brought an understanding of many of the issues faced by farmers to the British public' National Farmers Union 'A deserving Farming Champion of the Year' Farmers Weekly 'I don't know anything about farming. It's like David Attenborough doing jet-skiing, or Nicholas Witchell saying, "I'm going to be a cage fighter'" Jeremy Clarkson

Book Paul Rackham

Download or read book Paul Rackham written by Paul Rackham and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Paul Rackham began wheeling and dealing as a child, even he couldn't have foreseen building a multimillion-pound business. He couldn't have known that he would one day socialize with the likes of Lord Lucan, or that he would own racehorses ridden by Lester Piggott. His has been an inspirational journey, one that began in rural poverty and climbed to the ranks of the Sunday Times rich list. Here, in his own direct but modest style, Paul tells the story of his Suffolk childhood, the emergence of his own entrepreneurial spirit, the rebellion of adolescence, the building of multiple business interests and the overcoming of inevitable set-backs. His memoir chimes with the great themes of post-war Britain, from the time of austerity and making do with the barest of essentials, through the building of a rejuvenated nation and on into the boom and bust years of the later 20th century. It's also a story that offers fascinating insight into the emergence of Britain's recycling industry, told by a man who was in the vanguard of changing how a country thinks about waste management. Through the highs of rapid growth and the lows of deals gone bad and personal misfortune, Paul's inspirational and thought-provoking story proves that with an entrepreneurial approach, hard work and a streetwise attitude anything is possible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Papers originally presented at the annual meetings of the Society for Ancient Greek Philosophy. Seventeen essays demonstrate a shared and strikingly high regard for Plato as a major thinker in the western philosophical tradition, a recognition that the dialogues he wrote continue to exert influence as well as attract theoretical attention. Paper edition ($18.95) not seen. The essays in this collection have been selected from a much larger set of papers on Aristotle's ethics, presented before the Society for Ancient Greek Philosophy during the past decade. The essays are arranged (roughly) according to several unifying themes: methodology, ergon, virtue and character, moral reasoning, and persons and property.
