Book excerpt: Paul Kooiker's latest series, a project initiated by invitation of Shigeo Goto and Sawako Fukai at G/P gallery, Tokyo, is based on a sitting in Tokyo in 2015. It started out just being colour photographs of a model posing. Later, using Photoshop, Kooiker revised a few of the nearly identical images, freely altering the layers, often altering the image beyond recognition. For this publication, a single image has been cropped to a square format and reimagined in a series of more than a hundred different renderings. Kooiker has shifted the focus to the model's buttocks and applied a spectrum of colour and abstraction, often to the point that the original image is no longer evident.
