Download or read book MMPI 2 written by John Robert Graham and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1993 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four years after the introduction of the revised Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, the MMPI-2 is regarded throughout the world as a unique, invaluable instrument. Completely revised and updated, MMPI-2: Assessing Personality and Psychopathology, Second Edition encompasses all that has been learned about the original and revised tests. An interpretive strategy is presented and illustrated with several cases. A new section has been added concerning how feedback on MMPI-2 results should be presented to clients. The chapter on supplementary scales includes information about two new alcohol abuse scales and a marital distress scale. The book critically analyzes the use of the MMPI-2 with special groups, such as older adults, ethnic minorities, medical patients, correctional subjects, and subjects in nonclinical settings. An expanded chapter addresses the psychometric characteristics of the original MMPI and of the MMPI-2 and includes information concerning comparability of the two tests. Computerized use of the MMPI-2 is considered and a computerized interpretation is compared with a clinician-generated interpretation. The development of the MMPI-A, the adolescent version of the test, is presented along with a detailed approach to interpreting the results of this new test. This book is essential to students in personality assessment courses learning about the MMPI-2 and MMPI-A as well as to professionals who use these two tests in research and clinical work.

Book Forensic Uses of Clinical Assessment Instruments

Download or read book Forensic Uses of Clinical Assessment Instruments written by Robert P. Archer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to provide a firm basis for psychologists to understand the appropriate uses and limitations of popular clinical assessment measures as they are applied to forensic issues. The instruments were selected because of their wide use and importance in both clinical and forensic settings. The PCL-R, the PAI, and MCMI-II, for example, are typically used with adults in criminal evaluations; the MMPI-A is often used in evaluating adolescents in detention and correctional facilities; while the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) (Achenbach, 1991), Personality Inventory for Children--Second Edition (PIC-2) (Lachar & Gruber, 2001), and Parenting Stress Index (PSI) (Abidin, 1995) are more commonly used in evaluating families involved in child protection and custody cases. Instruments such as the MMPI-2, the Rorschach, and the Halstead-Reitan Neuropsychological Battery are widely used across many types of forensic evaluations, although the latter category of testing is particularly related to personal injury evaluations. The end result is a unique and indispensable reference: a comprehensive overview, within a single text, of prominent clinical assessment instruments widely used for forensic purposes and designed to facilitate the optimal use of clinical assessment instruments among psychologists who have undertaken the training necessary to understand and apply psychological principles and test findings to salient legal standards or issues.

Book Understanding Psychological Assessment

Download or read book Understanding Psychological Assessment written by William I. Dorfman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introductory texts on psychological testing and evaluation historically are not in short supply. Typically, however, such texts have been relatively superficial in their discussion of clinical material and have focused primarily on the theoretical and psychometric properties of indi vidual tests. More practical, clinically relevant presentations of psychological instruments have been confined to individual volumes with advanced and often very technical information geared to the more sophisticated user. Professors in introductory graduate courses are often forced to adopt several advanced texts to cover the material, at the same time helping students wade through unnecessary technical information in order to provide a basic working knowl edge of each test. Understanding Psychological Assessment is an attempt to address these concerns. It brings together into a single volume a broad sampling of the most respected instruments in the psychologist's armamentarium along with promising new tests of cognitive, vocational, and personality functioning. Additionally, it presents the most updated versions of these tests, all in a practical, clearly written format that covers the development, psychometrics, administra tive considerations, and interpretive hypotheses for each instrument. Clinical case studies allow the reader to apply the interpretive guidelines to real clinical data, thereby reinforcing basic understanding of the instrument and helping to insure that both the student and practi tioner can actually begin to use the test. Understanding Psychological Assessment includes cognitive and personality tests for adults, children, and adolescents, as well as chapters on the theory of psychological measurement and integrated report writing.

Book Analysis of MMPI Scale 4 Response Patterns in Recently Detoxified Alcoholics

Download or read book Analysis of MMPI Scale 4 Response Patterns in Recently Detoxified Alcoholics written by Omar Mohammad-Ali Alhassoon and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) Scale-4 has consistently been found to be elevated in a wide variety of alcoholic patient groups. Most researchers who have reported this elevation have characterized their subjects as hostile, rebellious, angry, impulsive, and in conflict with authority. Few researchers have attempted to examine the validity of such characterizations and the implications of the Scale-4 elevation within the framework of alcoholic typologies. This dissertation fills the gap by examining the neuropsychological and clinical characteristics of different types of alcoholics identified using Scale-4. Employing a sample of 246 recently detoxified alcoholic men (mean age = 41.6 years, education = 13.1 years, duration of alcoholism = 18.2 years) Latent Class Analysis and Cluster Analysis were applied in order to examine the number of classes that provide the best fit for the data. A two-class model was identified by both methodologies. Individuals from the first class (N = 166, Antisocial Group or AG) were more likely to endorse Scale-4 items related to antisocial characteristics and behavior, scored higher on factors identified as related to psychopathy, but tended to score lower on the overall Scale-4 as well as other clinical scales (1, 2, 3, 7, 8). On the other hand, individuals from the second class (N = 80, General Psychopathology Group or GPG) were more like to endorse Scale-4 items related to depression, anxiety, and paranoia, scored higher on factors identified as related to depression and general psychopathology, and tended to score higher on Scale-4 as well as other clinical scales (1, 2, 3, 7, 8). Controlling for age, education and verbal IQ, the AG performed significantly worse than the GPG on the Category Test, t (206) = 3.35, p
