Book excerpt: Our aim in producing a colour atlas of toxicological guidelines itemize the investigations to be carried out pathology was to present a catalogue of histopathologi during the course of the study and they normally include: cal lesions which we had encountered over the years in clinical observations and behaviour; food intake and body various laboratory animal species exposed to a vast weight measurements; serum biochemistry; haema range of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and industrial tology; ECG and ophthalmology. At the end of a study, chemicals. While we believe a colour atlas is the ideal full macroscopic and microscopic examinations of the way to share our experiences with others, it quickly organ weight analyses together with tissues are essen became clear to us that for the atlas to be meaningful tial. By far the greater part of the material used in this the associated text must be comprehensive and contain book is from toxicity studies conducted in recent years ample literature references. and performed in compliance with the Good Laboratory The atlas is intended for both the trainee and the Practice standards of governmental regulatory bodies in experienced toxicological pathologist working with lab Europe, Japan and North America. oratory animals in the pharmaceutical, agrochemical or Toxicity studies are commonly carried out in rats, chemical environment.

Book Pathology of the Developing Mouse

Download or read book Pathology of the Developing Mouse written by Brad Bolon and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2015-04-24 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pathology of the Developing Mouse provides, in so far as feasible, one complete reference on the design, analysis, and interpretation of abnormal findings that may be detected in developing mice before and shortly after birth. In particular, this book is designed specifically to be not only a "how to do" manual for developmental pathology experimentation in mice but, more importantly, a "how to interpret" resource for pathologists and other biomedical scientists faced for the first or hundredth time with defining the significance of distorted features in some fantastic murine developmental monstrosity. The topics covered in this volume include a full range of subjects encountered when building and wielding a developmental pathology tool kit: baseline anatomic and physiologic traits of developing mice principles of good experimental design and statistical analysis for mouse developmental pathology studies procedures for anatomic pathology examinations, to evaluate structural changes at the macroscopic (gross), microscopic (cells and tissues), and ultrastructural (subcellular) levels, suing conventional autopsy-based or novel non-invasive imaging techniques; methods for clinical pathology testing, to assess the biochemical and cellular composition of tissues and fluids; options and protocols for in situ molecular pathology analysis, to undertake site-specific explorations of the various mechanisms responsible for producing adverse findings (i.e., "lesions") during development; and well-referenced and illustrated guides to the interpretation of anatomic pathology and clinical pathology changes in the animal (embryos, fetuses, neonates, and juveniles) and its support system (placenta).

Book The Pathobiology of Neoplasia

Download or read book The Pathobiology of Neoplasia written by A.E. Sirica and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 591 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is directed primarily to advanced graduate and medical students, postdoctoral trainees, and established investigators having basic research interests in neoplasia. Its content is based in part on the lecture outlines and selected histopathology laboratory components of an advanced course entitled The Pathobiology of Experimental Animal and Human Neoplasia, developed by me for the Experimental Pathology Curriculum of the Department of Pathology at the Medical College of Virginia. In this regard, an effort has been made to integrate pathology with carcinogenesis, genetics, biochemistry, and cellular and molecular biology in order to present a comprehensive and current view of the neoplastic process. For focus, emphasis is mainly being placed on the neoplastic cells themselves, and not on associated host-mediated responses. It ishoped that this book will accomplish its purpose of providing students and researchers who already possess strong but diverse basic science backgrounds with unifying concepts in tumor pathobiology, so as to stimulate new research aimed at furthering our understanding of neoplastic disease. I wish to express my appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the authors, whose individual ranges of expertise and research experience clearly bring to their respective chapters unique perspectives that easily transcend any redundancy that may be present. In addition, I am grateful to Drs. George Vennart, Saul Kay, and Fred Meier, and to Ms. Connie Wilkerson of the Department of Pathology at MCV, for their helpful comments and their review of some of the material.

Download or read book Statistics for Pathologists written by Danny A. Milner, Jr., MD and published by Springer Publishing Company. This book was released on 2016-12-28 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This essential guide provides a clear, accessible review of the use of statistics in pathology studies. Spanning topics such as exploratory data analysis and descriptive statistics as well as the use of comparative statistics, concordance analysis, categorical and continuous data regression analyses, count data, survival analyses, decision point and clustering analysis, and more, this practical book comprehensively demystifies all the statistical knowledge paramount to working in the field. Throughout the guide, the author team highlights common errors and pitfalls that occur when performing tests and when interpreting data and make suggestions for how to avoid mistakes. Chapters are uniformly structured for ease of use and each chapter concludes with reviewquestions to facilitate self-assessment of the reader's skill in use of statistical methods. Statistics for Pathologists teaches trainees, junior investigators, and seasoned pathologists how to look at their data from the point of view of a statistician and determine what tests should be done, how the data and test should be presented, and how to use the tests practically. Learning statistical applications can greatly enhance and simplify the skills necessary to review and present data accurately and this basic understanding of statistics is critical in pathology-related work. Key Features Clear, concise overviews of every relevant statistical test with application in pathology-related research Includes real published studies to provide examples of use of the tests and interpretation of data Emphasizes how to avoid common errors and pitfalls when conducting tests and interpreting data Provides self-assessment review questions and answers in each chapter Comes with downloadable datasets for the reader so that they can perform statistical analysis tied to the book with popular stats programs
