Book Life s Messy Live Happy

Download or read book Life s Messy Live Happy written by Cy Wakeman and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2022-03-29 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A simple shift in thinking can change everything you believe about your own happiness. By the time we become adults, most of us have joined the religion of suffering, which preaches that unless circumstances are controlled, life will be a mess. We compare ourselves to others and speculate about an impossible-to-know future, holding out hope for an improved life through getting ahead, fulfilling passion, or finding true love. But the idea that happiness comes from putting effort toward altering one’s circumstances is harmful and backward. What if we instead learned to understand that circumstances can rarely be controlled, and that life is, and always will be, messy? From that starting point, we could learn to use our minds to create happiness despite life’s ever-changing circumstances and events. Life’s Messy, Live Happy by Cy Wakeman is about dramatically changing the level of happiness you feel in your daily life, by learning to disconnect happiness from external forces, stop worrying about the future, and realize that most of your negative feelings are about things that never even happened. Wakeman is a credible, relatable teacher—a business owner, mother, and community member who has lived her philosophy and achieved profound happiness and success in a crazy, messy life. Filled with concrete daily practices and true stories that are hilarious, painful, and poignant, this book will change everything: your perspective, your focus, and your energy level for everyday life.

Book A Book About Innocent

Download or read book A Book About Innocent written by Innocent and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2020-05-21 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We started making smoothies in 1999. On that first day we sold twenty-four bottles, and now we sell over 2 million a week, so we've grown since then. This book is about the stuff we've learned since selling those first few smoothies. About having ideas and making drinks, about running a business and getting started, about nature and fruit, about company life and working with friends, about the stuff we've got right and the stuff we got wrong, and about squirrels . . . and camping . . . and doing the right thing. We thought we'd write it all down in a book so we don't forget any of it, and to maybe help other people too. We started innocent from scratch, so we've learnt a lot of things by getting stuff wrong. Some other lessons have come from listening carefully to people clever than us. And some stuff we just got lucky on. But all of it, the good the bad and the useful, is in here. Plus, perhaps our mums will finally believe us when we tell them we haven't rung home for a while because we've been a bit busy these past few years.

Book Theory and Applications of the Cluster Variation and Path Probability Methods

Download or read book Theory and Applications of the Cluster Variation and Path Probability Methods written by J.L. Morán-López and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a compilation of papers presented at the International Workshop on the Theory and Applications of the Cluster Variation and Path Probability Methods, held in the city of San Juan, Teotihuacan, Mexico, during June 18-22, 1995. The presentations at the workshop provided a state of the art review of the fundamental aspects of the CVM and PPM and their application to a wide range of problems in statistical mechanics and alloy theory. The volume begins with several articles dealing with the study of the kinetics of ordering in Ising sytems and alloys using the PPM and other classical techniques. These articles are followed by the contribution of Professor Masuo Suzuki on the Coherent Anomaly Method which has added a new dimension to mean field theory, and the CVM in particular, in the study of critical phenomena. The remaining of the volume is dedicated to fundamental aspects and specific applications of the CVM in a wide range of subjects ranging from bulk and surface studies to new areas of inquiry such as the problem of image reconstruction. Since the inception by Prof. Ryoichi Kikuchi of the CVM in 1950 and of the PPM in 1966, the latter after a gestation period of approximately six years, the tech niques have found wide acceptance in the physics and materials science communities. Both methods are properly regarded as seminal contributions to equilibrium and non equilibrium statistical mechanics.

Book Persistent Object Systems

    Book Details:
  • Author : Malcolm Atkinson
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 1447121228
  • Pages : 559 pages

Download or read book Persistent Object Systems written by Malcolm Atkinson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sixth International Workshop on Persistent Object Systems was held at Les Mazets des Roches near Tarascon, Provence in southern France from the fifth to the ninth of September 1994. The attractive context and autumn warmth greeted the 53 participants from 12 countries spread over five continents. Persistent object systems continue to grow in importance. Almost all significant uses of computers to support human endeavours depend on long-lived and large-scale systems. As expectations and ambitions rise so the sophistication of the systems we attempt to build also rises. The quality and integrity of the systems and their feasibility for supporting large groups of co-operating people depends on their technical founda tion. Persistent object systems are being developed which provide a more robust and yet simpler foundation for these persistent applications. The workshop followed the tradition of the previous workshops in the series, focusing on the design, implementation and use of persistent object systems in particular and persistent systems in general. There were clear signs that this line of research is maturing, as engineering issues were discussed with the aid of evidence from operational systems. The work presented covered the complete range of database facilities: transactions, concurrency, distribution, integrity and schema modifica tion. There were examples of very large scale use, one involving tens of terabytes of data. Language issues, particularly the provision of reflection, continued to be important.

Book Africa s Persistent Vulnerable Link to Global Politics

Download or read book Africa s Persistent Vulnerable Link to Global Politics written by Opoku Agyeman and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2001 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A key dimention of global politics is the interaction that takes place between the nation-states as primary actors, and the systemic environment within which the actors operate. How a nation-state relates to the structural realities of the international system depends very much on its relative strength or weakness within the global system. Linkage vulnerability implies that the actors caught in it tend to be severely handicapped in their interactions with the world system; that they tend to have little or no say in configuring the underlying linkages. By any yardstick, Black Africa's relationship to the global system provides the quintessential depiction of linkage vulnerability. The book, which covers the period from the 1960s to the 1990s, portrays the persistence of Africa's vulnerability to global politics across such evocative African places as the Congo(Zaire), Angola, Mozambique, and South Africa; and it encompasses such issues as the lack of tenaciousness of spiritual-dignificatory values, the tenuous commitment to the solutions inherent in Pan-Africanist ideology and stategies, the institutional vacuum engendered by praetorianism, the racism of a near-hegemonic Western power toward Africa, and Western imperialistic terrorism against Africa.

Book Contested Violated but Persistent

Download or read book Contested Violated but Persistent written by Charlotte Heyl and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-12-26 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presidential term limits have been a crucial institutional feature of the third wave of democratization. They are meant to safeguard democracy by promoting alternation in office and preventing the personalization of power. However, since the 1990s term limits have been subject to frequent contestation by incumbents. Such contestation process has often been considered a sign of autocratization, particularly when it involves the weakening of other constitutional constraints, such as courts and legislatures. Term-limit contestations have attracted the attention of scholars working with a global perspective as well as with a regional or country-specific one too. Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa are focal points of these trends, despite their different histories of presidentialism and diverging types of term-limit rules. This book generates new empirical and theoretical insights by bringing together the scholarship on Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa, providing context-bound intraregional research as well as long-term perspectives for the study of term-limit change. The chapters advance novel findings on institutionalization, the power of precedence, incumbent-centred strategies, and approaches to protect presidential term limits. This volume will be of great use to students and researchers interested in Latin American and African studies, comparative politics as well as political leadership. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of Democratization.

Book The Evolutionary Complexity of Endogenous Innovation

Download or read book The Evolutionary Complexity of Endogenous Innovation written by Cristiano Antonelli and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The notion of endogenous innovation as the outcome of the creative response of firms to out-of-equilibrium conditions is the cornerstone of the new evolutionary complexity. This book elaborates and applies the theoretical framework established in the author’s previous work Endogenous Innovation: The Economics of an Emergent System Property. This volume carefully explores the role of the reactivity of firms to out-of-equilibrium conditions. It also examines the quality of knowledge governance mechanisms in assessing the levels of externalities that define the likelihood of creative responses, as an alternative to adaptive responses.
