Book Introduction to Path integral Methods in Physics and Polymer Science

Download or read book Introduction to Path integral Methods in Physics and Polymer Science written by Frederik W. Wiegel and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1986 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph distills material prepared by the author for class lectures, conferences and research seminars. It fills in a much-felt gap between the older and original work by Feynman and Hibbs and the more recent and advanced volume by Schulman. After presenting an elementary account on the Wiener path integral as applied to Brownian motion, the author progresses on to the statistics of polymers and polymer entanglements. The next three chapters provide an introduction to quantum statistical physics with emphasis on the conceptual understanding of many-variable systems. A chapter on the renormalization group provides material for starting on research work. The final chapter contains an over view of the role of path integrals in recent developments in physics. A good bibliography is provided for each chapter.

Book Complexity Science An Introduction

Download or read book Complexity Science An Introduction written by Peletier Mark A and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2019-03-20 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on complexity science comprises a collection of chapters on methods and principles from a wide variety of disciplinary fields — from physics and chemistry to biology and the social sciences. In this two-part volume, the first part is a collection of chapters introducing different aspects in a coherent fashion, and providing a common basis and the founding principles of the different complexity science approaches; the next provides deeper discussions of the different methods of use in complexity science, with interesting illustrative applications. The fundamental topics deal with self-organization, pattern formation, forecasting uncertainties, synchronization and revolutionary change, self-adapting and self-correcting systems, and complex networks. Examples are taken from biology, chemistry, engineering, epidemiology, robotics, economics, sociology, and neurology.

Book A New Algorithm for Computing Path Integrals and Weak Approximation of SDEs Inspired by Large Deviations and Malliavin Calculus

Download or read book A New Algorithm for Computing Path Integrals and Weak Approximation of SDEs Inspired by Large Deviations and Malliavin Calculus written by Toshihiro Yamada and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper gives a novel path integral formula inspired by large deviation theory and Malliavin calculus. The proposed finite-dimensional approximation of integrals on path space will be a new higher-order weak approximation of multidimensional stochastic differential equations where the dominant part of the local expansion is governed by Varadhan's geodesic distance and the correction terms are given as Malliavin weights. An optimal truncation of asymptotic expansion is used to reduce computational effort. Kusuoka's estimate is applied to justify the finite-dimensional approximation of path integrals. An efficient simulation method is provided with the algorithm. Numerical results are shown to verify the effectiveness.

Book Teaching Einsteinian Physics in Schools

Download or read book Teaching Einsteinian Physics in Schools written by Magdalena Kersting and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-08-30 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In our world today, scientists and technologists speak one language of reality. Everyone else, whether they be prime ministers, lawyers, or primary school teachers speak an outdated Newtonian language of reality. While Newton saw time and space as rigid and absolute, Einstein showed that time is relative – it depends on height and velocity – and that space can stretch and distort. The modern Einsteinian perspective represents a significant paradigm shift compared with the Newtonian paradigm that underpins most of the school education today. Research has shown that young learners quickly access and accept Einsteinian concepts and the modern language of reality. Students enjoy learning about curved space, photons, gravitational waves, and time dilation; often, they ask for more! A consistent education within the Einsteinian paradigm requires rethinking of science education across the entire school curriculum, and this is now attracting attention around the world. This book brings together a coherent set of chapters written by leading experts in the field of Einsteinian physics education. The book begins by exploring the fundamental concepts of space, time, light, and gravity and how teachers can introduce these topics at an early age. A radical change in the curriculum requires new learning instruments and innovative instructional approaches. Throughout the book, the authors emphasise and discuss evidence-based approaches to Einsteinian concepts, including computer- based tools, geometrical methods, models and analogies, and simplified mathematical treatments. Teaching Einsteinian Physics in Schools is designed as a resource for teacher education students, primary and secondary science teachers, and for anyone interested in a scientifically accurate description of physical reality at a level appropriate for school education.

Book Graphs and Patterns in Mathematics and Theoretical Physics

Download or read book Graphs and Patterns in Mathematics and Theoretical Physics written by Mikhail Lyubich and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Stony Brook Conference, "Graphs and Patterns in Mathematics and Theoretical Physics", was dedicated to Dennis Sullivan in honor of his sixtieth birthday. The event's scientific content, which was suggested by Sullivan, was largely based on mini-courses and survey lectures. The main idea was to help researchers and graduate students in mathematics and theoretical physics who encounter graphs in their research to overcome conceptual barriers. The collection begins with Sullivan's paper, "Sigma models and string topology," which describes a background algebraic structure for the sigma model based on algebraic topology and transversality. Other contributions to the volume were organized into five sections: Feynman Diagrams, Algebraic Structures, Manifolds: Invariants and Mirror Symmetry, Combinatorial Aspects of Dynamics, and Physics. These sections, along with more research-oriented articles, contain the following surveys: "Feynman diagrams for pedestrians and mathematicians" by M. Polyak, "Notes on universal algebra" by A. Voronov, "Unimodal maps and hierarchical models" by M. Yampolsky, and "Quantum geometry in action: big bang and black holes" by A. Ashtekar. This comprehensive volume is suitable for graduate students and research mathematicians interested in graph theory and its applications in mathematics and physics.
