Book Patellofemoral Pain Instability and Arthritis

Download or read book Patellofemoral Pain Instability and Arthritis written by David Dejour and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-23 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This excellently illustrated book adopts an evidence-based approach to evaluate the efficacy of different techniques for the imaging and treatment of patellofemoral pain, instability, and arthritis. The aim is to equip practitioners with an informative guide that will help them to manage disorders of the patellofemoral joint by casting light on the many issues on which a consensus has been lacking. The opening chapters supply essential background information and explain the role of various imaging modalities, including radiography, CT, MRI, and bone scan. The various conservative and surgical treatment approaches for each of the three presentations – pain, instability, and arthritis – are then described and assessed in depth, with precise guidance on indications and technique. Postoperative management and options in the event of failed surgery are also evaluated. Throughout, careful attention is paid to the literature in an attempt to establish the level of evidence for each imaging and treatment method. The new edition has been thoroughly updated, with inclusion of additional chapters, in order to present the latest knowledge on biomechanics, diagnosis, surgical techniques, and rehabilitation.

Download or read book Patellofemoral Disorders written by Roland M. Biedert and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-07-08 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Patellofemoral complaints are a major problem for all those working in sports medicine and orthopaedics. The correct diagnosis at an early stage is essential if subsequent treatment is to be successful and secondary complications are to be avoided. Written by an internationally known team of experts this book looks at the various diagnostic techniques currently available, cites examples of unsuccessful treatments and proposes the most appropriate ones on the proven basis of the latest research. The core of the book is the 20 case studies ranging from simple non-operative treatment to multi-operated patients with salvage procedures. The underlying theme of the book is that treatment of patellofemoral problems must, in the first instance, be somewhat conservative. Surgical interventions should be performed in a response to a clear underlying pathology and only after non-operative treatment has failed. Patellofemoral Disorders is enhanced by the inclusion of some superb specially drawn illustrations and numerous colour photographs in the case studies section.

Download or read book The Patella written by Giles R. Scuderi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problems of the patellofemoral joint remain a challenge to the orthopaedic surgeon. In spite of many articles in scientific journals, an outstanding monograph, and several excellent textbook chapters, the patella is still an enigma in many respects. The etiology of patellar pain is controversial, and there is no completely satisfying explanation for its cause or its relationship to chondromalacia. Curiously, neither the widespread use of arthroscopy nor the advent of newer diagnostic tests such as CT scanning and magnetic resonance imaging have cast much light. Without a better understanding of why patellar disorders occur it is not surprising that there is no consensus on how to fix them. Arthros copy has contributed little except to the patient's psyche. The currently most popular surgical treatment for recurrent dislocation of the patella was first described 50 years ago. One concrete advance, albeit a small one, is a better understanding of the role of anatomical abnormalities and patellofemoral dysplasia in patellar instabilities. It gives me great pleasure that many of the contributors are, like Dr.

Book Patellofemoral Pain Instability and Arthritis

Download or read book Patellofemoral Pain Instability and Arthritis written by Stefano Zaffagnini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-07-17 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite numerous studies, a lack of consensus still exists over many aspects of patellofemoral pain, instability, and arthritis. This book adopts an evidence-based approach to assess each of these topics in depth. The book reviews general features of clinical examination and global evaluation techniques including the use of different imaging methods, e.g. x-rays, CT, MRI, stress x-rays, and bone scan. Various conservative and surgical treatment approaches for each of the three presentations – pain, instability, and arthritis – are then explained and assessed. Postoperative management and options in the event of failed surgery are also evaluated. Throughout, careful attention is paid to the literature in an attempt to establish the level of evidence for the efficacy of each imaging and treatment method. It is hoped that this book will serve as an informative guide for the practitioner when confronted with disorders of the patellofemoral joint.

Book Tutorials in Patellofemoral Disorders

Download or read book Tutorials in Patellofemoral Disorders written by Simon Donell and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-05 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book adopts a case-based approach to the management of patellofemoral disorders with the aim of helping orthopaedic surgeons at all levels of experience to decide whether individual patients referred with patellofemoral problems should be treated conservatively or operatively. A series of real-life case stories are used to illustrate every stage of the decision-making process and to explore the reader’s higher-order thinking around patient management. In each case study, the patient’s history, clinical and imaging findings, and management are reported, during the course of which the reader is asked searching questions. The reader is then able to compare his or her responses with those given by the authors, which are provided at the end of each case-specific chapter. This format ensures that knowledge and understanding improve as the reader progresses through the book. Although the cases are addressed primarily from the standpoint of the orthopaedic surgeon, the dominant management strategy is non-operative in many of them. Beyond surgeons, the book will also be of value for musculoskeletal physiotherapists with a particular interest in the knee.

Book Selected Health Conditions and Likelihood of Improvement with Treatment

Download or read book Selected Health Conditions and Likelihood of Improvement with Treatment written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2020-07-12 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Social Security Administration (SSA) administers two programs that provide disability benefits: the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program. SSDI provides disability benefits to people (under the full retirement age) who are no longer able to work because of a disabling medical condition. SSI provides income assistance for disabled, blind, and aged people who have limited income and resources regardless of their prior participation in the labor force. Both programs share a common disability determination process administered by SSA and state agencies as well as a common definition of disability for adults: "the inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment which can be expected to result in death or which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months." Disabled workers might receive either SSDI benefits or SSI payments, or both, depending on their recent work history and current income and assets. Disabled workers might also receive benefits from other public programs such as workers' compensation, which insures against work-related illness or injuries occurring on the job, but those other programs have their own definitions and eligibility criteria. Selected Health Conditions and Likelihood of Improvement with Treatment identifies and defines the professionally accepted, standard measurements of outcomes improvement for medical conditions. This report also identifies specific, long-lasting medical conditions for adults in the categories of mental health disorders, cancers, and musculoskeletal disorders. Specifically, these conditions are disabling for a length of time, but typically don't result in permanently disabling limitations; are responsive to treatment; and after a specific length of time of treatment, improve to the point at which the conditions are no longer disabling.
