Book excerpt: A breathtaking celebration of Instagram's premier solo female travel community, featuring 200 striking photographs—most of them all-new—plus empowering messages and practical tips for solo travelers. “For those with passports full of stories, this book carries you away to every dreamy corner of the earth. I can’t stop flipping through these visually incandescent pages to see where I’m capable of traveling to next!”—Caila Quinn, The Bachelor contestant and lifestyle and travel influencer From backpackers in Peru to artists in Berlin to storytellers in Morocco, Dame Traveler celebrates the diversity and bravery of women from around the world who are not afraid to think (and live) outside the box. The revolutionary Dame Traveler Instagram account was founded by Nastasia Yakoub, who was born into a strict Chaldean-Middle Eastern community where women are expected to marry young and put aside other personal ambitions. But at the age of twenty, Nastasia embarked on a solo trip to South Africa to volunteer at an orphanage in Cape Town, which sparked a love of world travel. Recognizing a void in the travel industry, she founded Dame Traveler, the first female travel community on Instagram, now more than half a million strong. Nastasia herself has traveled to sixty-three countries on solo adventures, sharing colorful photos of her tantalizing travels along the way. Dame Traveler celebrates these women with a photographic collection of 200 stunning images paired with inspiring captions, 80% of which have never been seen on the Instagram account. Organized into sections on architecture, culture, nature, and water, each entry features travel information, plus tips, advice, unique solo-travel experiences, and wisdom from contributing globe-trotters to embolden the next generation of Dame Travelers.

Book PATAGONIA Torres Del Paine National Park

Download or read book PATAGONIA Torres Del Paine National Park written by Oleg Senkov and published by . This book was released on 2019-08-17 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a budget version of the travel guide with reduced printing costs; it is black and white (b/w) inside. The book is an unique and the most complete "smart" travel guide, which I made, at first, to be solely used in my own, after buying so many travel guides and still feeling - they aren't good enough for my adventures to explore wilderness as a biologist and wildlife/travel photographer. I was missing it during my trip to Patagonia in 2017, otherwise, I would be much more efficient as a wildlife photographer and traveler. This is my second book in the "wilderness explorer" series (first one I wrote about Peninsula Valdes, see it at 13 Amazon webstores: www.amazon.com/dp/B078RC9QC2), which I hope, will be a good "practical tool", an all-to-know set of guide books for you (for me as well), while you are exploring the world with responsible mind and open heart as a truly nature lover. The book contains 90 GPS coordinates of important to know places, 40 website links, covering all the important campsites, hotels, viewpoints, trails, key sightseeing, it has a detailed trekking map, and 14 photographs I made in March-April 2017. The book first describes how to get in/out the park, all park's updated rules and prices, then how to design your trekking route and how to book all accommodation in the park and nearby. In addition to popular "W" and "O" trekking circuits in the park, I give information about another 6 less-known, secret "off-the-bitten-pass" trails. I also give all the details for wild and paid camping, hotels, hostels, domes, cabins, food stores, roads conditions, travel scenarios, public buses, prices for touristic services, paid tours, wildlife safaris, fishing, kayaking, horseback riding. At the end of the guide, I give detailed information what kind of wild animals and where you can meet in the park (puma, condors, huemul, guanaco, fox) and their behavior. I also describe where you can find fossils from Jurassic Era of ichthyosaur, of a large prehistoric marine dolphin-like predator, or to see ancient cave paintings of indigenous tribes lived here 3000-8000 years ago. The book can be equally useful for "budget" adventure seekers, solo/group travelers, "fast & easy" with a rented car/campers or travel agency users as well as for paid wildlife and travel photographers on a mission.Printed versions of the book just went far beyond of my anticipations; quality is highest standard possible, they are rather small (15x23 cm), light-weight (only 150 g each), fully colorful inside with maps and GPS coordinates, pages are robustly made and glued, the cover is made of water-repellent paper, books are flexible, you can bend them, nothing will happen... though, they are ideal to put them into your backpack and use them while you travel through wonderful Patagonia... Enjoy and take care!

  • Pages : 356 pages

Download or read book Patagonia written by Chris Moss and published by Andrews UK Limited. This book was released on 2016-08-09 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Patagonia is the ultimate landscape of the mind. Like Siberia and the Sahara, it has become a metaphor for nothingness and extremity. Its frontiers have stretched beyond the political boundaries of Argentina and Chile to encompass an evocative idea of place. A vast triangle at the southern tip of the New World, this region of barren steppes, soaring peaks and fierce winds was populated by small tribes of hunter-gatherers and roaming nomads when Ferdinand Magellan made landfall in 1520. A fateful moment for the natives, this was the start of an era of adventure and exploration. Soon Sir Francis Drake and John Byron, and sailors from Europe and America, would be exploring Patagonia's bays and inlets, mapping fjords and channels, whaling, sifting the streams for gold in the endless search for Eldorado. As the land was opened up in the nineteenth century, a crazed Frenchman declared himself King. A group of Welsh families sailed from Liverpool to Northern Patagonia to found a New Jerusalem in the desert. Further down the same river, Butch and Sundance took time out from bank robbing to run a small ranch near the Patagonian Andes. All these, and later travel writers, have left sketches and records, memoirs and diaries evoking Patagonia's grip on the imagination. From the empty plains to the crashing seas, from the giant dinosaur fossils to glacial sculptures, the landscape has inspired generations of travellers and artists.

Book Patagonian Road

  • Author : Kate McCahill
  • Publisher : Santa Fe Writers Project
  • Release : 2017-05-01
  • ISBN : 1939650569
  • Pages : 350 pages

Download or read book Patagonian Road written by Kate McCahill and published by Santa Fe Writers Project. This book was released on 2017-05-01 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spanning four seasons, 10 countries, three teaching jobs, and countless buses, Patagonian Road chronicles Kate McCahill's solo journey from Guatemala to Argentina. In her struggles with language, romance, culture, service, and homesickness, she personifies a growing culture of women for whom travel is not a path to love but to meaningful work, rare inspiration, and profound self-discovery. Following Paul Theroux's route from his 1979 travelogue, McCahill transports the reader from a classroom in a Quito barrio to a dingy room in an El Salvadorian brothel, and from the neighborhoods of Buenos Aires to the heights of the Peruvian Andes. A testament to courage, solitude, and the rewards of taking risks, Patagonian Road proves that discovery, clarity, and simplicity remain possible in the 21st century, and that travel holds an enduring capacity to transform.

Book Nowhere is a Place

Download or read book Nowhere is a Place written by Bruce Chatwin and published by Random House (NY). This book was released on 1992 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Nowhere is a Place recounts Paul Theroux's and Bruce Chatwin's impressions of this little-known windswept wilderness and reveals the powerful effect Patagonia has had on the Western literary imagination since the age of exploration. Patagonia has cast its spell on authors as diverse as Magellan, Darwin, W. H. Hudson, Shakespeare, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Conan Doyle, Edgar Allan Poe, and Herman Melville. "It has a look of antiquity, of desolation, of eternal peace. " (W. H. Hudson)" "Jeff Gnass's spectacular full-color photographs capture Patagonia's stark, compelling beauty: from the granite spires of Torres del Paine in Chile to sculpted icebergs at the terminus of Glaciar Moreno to great lenticular clouds gliding above Cordillera Paine in Chile. As Gnass explains in his notes, Nowhere Is a Place offers "a clear impression of one of the wildest places on earth, and also encourages understanding of this unique region and a realization of the need for such wild places where man is forever a visitor.""--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book excerpt: From the peak of a mountain or the barrel of a wave, Patagonia has collected some of the most spectacular sports imagery in history. Relive the achievements captured in Patagonia’s history, as well as the joie de vivre fostered by nurturing a relationship with the great outdoors. Unique for a business enterprise, Patagonia’s catalog devotes fully half its space to nonselling editorial content – to environmental and sport essays and above all to extraordinary photographs of wild places and active pursuits for which the company makes its clothes. Since 1980, Patagonia has invited customers and wilderness photographers to submit their best, most unexpected shots of life outdoors – of alpine climbing, bouldering in the desert, skiing untracked bowls, surfing secret spots, ocean crossings, first kayak descents and travel in unfamiliar places. The photos have poured in ever since (current rate: 60,000 per year), some from the famous (John Russell, Galen Rowell), others from respected photographers (Corey Rich) who had their first work published in these pages. Jane Sievert and Jennifer Ridgeway, Patagonia’s current and founding photo editor, respectively, have been calling – and culling – the shots for three decades. This is their compendium of the 100-plus most compelling photos Patagonia has published – and a celebration of wilderness and outdoor-sport photography as an art and a practice.

Book Dark Horses at the Patagonian Frontier

Download or read book Dark Horses at the Patagonian Frontier written by Jon Burrough and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Patagonia is one of the 'final frontiers' on our planet: remote, untamed and much of it inaccessible except on horseback. Though travelled before and sporadically settled, it remains remarkably resistant to human trampling. Divided unequally between Argentina and Chile, Patagonia remains a land of mystery today. The history of those who settled in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries along its Andean frontier is even less known. They are the 'dark horses' of this book.Jon Burrough rode with his gaucho guide for 1,500 kilometres through this land of savage beauty. Dark Horses at the Patagonian Frontier evokes the rawness of the region using extracts from diaries, personal interviews, tales told or recorded, myths and legends--all wound round the narrative thread. Part travel record of a 'third-ager' on horseback (who was to discover he had cancer ten days out) and part history of this truly wild region, the book explores the landscapes and legacy of a pioneer culture. Illustrated with the author's own photographs, it also contains several detailed route and location maps to ensure the reader does not get lost. Dark Horses at the Patagonian Frontier is a tale both of the author's epic journey and of the remarkable pioneers he met and who showed him a hospitality and friendliness which seemed to have no limit.
