Book excerpt: An account that tackles “the Pats’ wilderness years to the current dynasty . . . with fresh insight, bite, and humor from an All-Pro roster of writers” (John U. Bacon, New York Times bestselling author of Overtime). The New England Patriots have become a dynasty, though it didn’t begin that way. Love ’em, hate ’em, the Pats have captured this country’s attention like no other franchise. From two award-winning authors this is the first complete story of a legendary team and its five championship trophies. In the tradition of their celebrated illustrated histories of some of sports’ most iconic franchises, Stout and Johnson tell the history in full and in colorful detail. This is a lavishly illustrated tale full of larger-than-life characters—from founding owner Billy Sullivan, early stars like Syracuse running back Jim Nance and beloved wide receiver turned broadcaster Gino Cappeletti, to Hall of Famers and stars like John Hannah, Russ Francis, and Steve Grogan through to present-day stars like Tom Brady and Bill Belichick and owner Bob Kraft. Featuring essays by Richard Johnson, Upton Bell, Leigh Montville, Howard Bryant, Ron Borges, Lesley Visser and more, The Pats is a must-have gift for fans, old and new, and an indelible portrait of the most talked about team in NFL history. “Glenn Stout and Richard Johnson . . . whisk us back in time to old ballparks, long-ago games and the personalities who made Boston a dynamic sports town. What Stout and Johnson did for baseball with Red Sox Century they now do for football with The Pats.”—Steve Buckley, Boston Herald “The book every Patriots fan has been waiting for.”—Bob Ryan, Boston Globe columnist emeritus and ESPN commentator

Book PATS 1

    Book Details:
  • Author : George Patton Lohmann
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 1980
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 1062 pages

Download or read book PATS 1 written by George Patton Lohmann and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 1062 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PATS-l is the first version of a package of computer programs and subroutines written or acquired specifically for the archiving, analysis, and presentation of marine micropaleontological data. The aim of this report is to document the procedures and programs incorporated in PATS-l and make them available to colleagues working on closely related research problems. The program package described in this report is not intended to be either comprehensive or generally useful. Rather, the PATS-l package was assembled for a specific purpose. It reflects the solutions to problems encountered in the course of my own work in micropaleontological oceanography. Some programs are so strictly tailored to my own research that they may have to be modified to be of any use to others. However, where convenient I have tried to generalize programs, especially in design of the subroutines incorporated into the PATS-l/LIBRARY. This report provides program listings, documentation, examples and instructions for implementation and use of the PATS-l package. Programs were written to be used interactively and at WHOI are run exclusively on the time-sharing system of the VAX ll/780 computer.

Book S Poetry

  • Author : Patrick Burns
  • Publisher : Lulu.com
  • Release : 2012-01-07
  • ISBN : 1471045528
  • Pages : 440 pages

Download or read book S Poetry written by Patrick Burns and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-01-07 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S Poetry starts with the basics of the S language (of which R is a dialect). It then goes on to more advanced issues, including good programming techniques. Many of the deficiencies that are pointed out have now been fixed in R and S+. The parts that are most helpful include the glossary and the chapter on higher dimensional arrays. The 'genopt' function (which is R-compliant and available on the Burns Statistics website) -- though not particularly a nice example of programming -- is one of the most useful functions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally released in 1969, Towards a Visual Culture is a remarkably relevant read for today's teachers and programmers. Although the technology has evolved, humans remain visual learners and television remains a visual medium. In this book, Gattegno provides a framework for developing effective and efficient educational programs in an optimistic, forward-thinking manner. He foresees technology able to transmit all knowledge into all homes through satellites and computers, and urges educators and programmers to take advantage of the immense opportunities therein. The media are truly interchangeable - our eyes, our ability to perceive, and our awareness will always be the greatest educational tools.

This book was released on 2021-05-14 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The artificial intelligence subset machine learning has become a popular technique in professional fields as many are finding new ways to apply this trending technology into their everyday practices. Two fields that have majorly benefited from this are pattern recognition and information security. The ability of these intelligent algorithms to learn complex patterns from data and attain new performance techniques has created a wide variety of uses and applications within the data security industry. There is a need for research on the specific uses machine learning methods have within these fields, along with future perspectives. The Handbook of Research on Machine Learning Techniques for Pattern Recognition and Information Security is a collection of innovative research on the current impact of machine learning methods within data security as well as its various applications and newfound challenges. While highlighting topics including anomaly detection systems, biometrics, and intrusion management, this book is ideally designed for industrial experts, researchers, IT professionals, network developers, policymakers, computer scientists, educators, and students seeking current research on implementing machine learning tactics to enhance the performance of information security.

Book Mind Society

    Book Details:
  • Author : Paul Thagard
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2019-01-30
  • ISBN : 0190686405
  • Pages : 489 pages

Download or read book Mind Society written by Paul Thagard and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-01-30 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do minds make societies, and how do societies change? Paul Thagard systematically connects neural and psychological explanations of mind with major social sciences (social psychology, sociology, politics, economics, anthropology, and history) and professions (medicine, law, education, engineering, and business). Social change emerges from interacting social and mental mechanisms. Many economists and political scientists assume that individuals make rational choices, despite the abundance of evidence that people frequently succumb to thinking errors such as motivated inference. Much of sociology and anthropology is taken over with postmodernist assumptions that everything is constructed on the basis of social relations such as power, with no inkling that these relations are mediated by how people think about each other. Mind-Society displays the interdependence of the cognitive and social sciences by describing the interconnections among mental and social mechanisms, which interact to generate social changes ranging from marriage patterns to wars. Validation comes from detailed studies of important social changes, from norms about romantic relationships to economic practices, political institutions, religious customs, and international relations. This book belongs to a trio that includes Brain-Mind: From Neurons to Consciousness and Creativity and Natural Philosophy: From Social Brains to Knowledge, Reality, Morality, and Beauty. They can be read independently, but together they make up a Treatise on Mind and Society that provides a unified and comprehensive treatment of the cognitive sciences, social sciences, professions, and humanities.
