Book Pastoral Letter Vol 2

Download or read book Pastoral Letter Vol 2 written by and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-08 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Pastoral Letter, Vol. 2: From the Bishops of the Protestant Episcopal Church to the Clergy and Laity of the Church in the Confederate States of America, Delivered Before the General Council, in St. Paul's Church, Augusta, Saturday, Nov; 22nd, 1862 At your request, brethren of the Clergy and Laity, wo conclude the session of our First General Council by presenting to you and reading in your presence a Pastoral Letter, addressed to the members of the Protestant Episcopal Church scattered throughout the Confederate States. By the mighty power of the Holy Ghost we have been permitted to bring our deliberations to a close in a spirit of harmony and peace which augurs well for the future welfare of our branch of the Church Catholic; and our first duty is to thank Him who has promised to be with His Church to the end of the world, for His presence with us during our consultations, and for the happy conclusion to which He has brought our sacred labors. Seldom has any Council assembled in the Church of Christ under circumstances needing His presence more urgently than this which is now about to submit its conclusions to the judgment of the Universal Church. Forced by the providence of God to separate ourselves from the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States, - a Church with whose doctrine, discipline and worship we are in entire harmony, and with whose action, up to the time of that separation, we were abundantly satisfied - at a moment when civil strife had dipped its foot in blood, and cruel war was desolating our homes and firesides, we required a double measure of grace to preserve the accustomed moderation of the Church in the arrangement of our organic law, in the adjustment of our code of canons, hut above all, in the preservation, without change, of those rich treasures of doctrine and worship which have come to us enshrined in our Book of Common Prayer. Book Modern Catholic Social Teaching

Download or read book Modern Catholic Social Teaching written by Kenneth R. Himes and published by Georgetown University Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Outstanding reference work for anyone interested in studying and understanding the key documents of modern Catholic social teaching. (The "modern" period begins in 1891, when Pope Leo XIII wrote "Rerum Novarum," a formal letter, known as an encyclical, on the condition of workers.) Part One includes four essays to provide a context for Catholic social teaching; Part Two includes fourteen commentaries on major documents; and Part Three, with three essays, focuses on broad themes, including the future of Catholic social teaching. The commentaries are the meat of the book, and they reflect a simple framework that will appeal in particular to non-specialists: an intro; an outline; the ecclesial and social context; authorship and process of formulation; the primary essay; reactions to the document; an excursus; and a select, annotated bibliography. All of the contributors represent progressive Catholicism in the United States, that is, scholars within the tradition committed to the ongoing renewal of the church in the spirit of Vatican II.

Book Letters to My Students Volume 2

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few books have more influenced those called to gospel ministry than Charles Spurgeon’s Lectures to My Students. This influence of this book, like the Prince of Preachers himself, reverberates to our present age. Carrying forward this tradition is Jason Allen’s Letters to My Students. Dr. Allen serves as president of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Spurgeon College, the former ranking as one of the largest and fastest growing seminaries in North American. Dr. Allen has also served in multiple pastorates. His passion to serve the church by equipping a generation of pastors, missionaries, and ministers for faithful service is reflected in Letters to My Students. Letters to My Students is a biblical, accessible guide for ministers and ministers-in-training. It brings both biblical and practical wisdom to bear on the minister’s three main responsibilities: preaching, leading, and shepherding the flock of God. Martin Lloyd-Jones famously described the call to ministry as the highest, greatest, and most glorious calling to which one can be called. If this assessment resonates with you, you’ll want every available tool to strengthen your ministry. Letters to My Students is one such resource.

Download or read book Letters to Lutheran Pastors 1949 1951 written by Hermann Sasse and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this remarkable collection of letters ... we meet... a historian with a breadth of learning, a theologian of thorough biblical knowledge, a churchman of wisdom, and a pastor of caring words. Hermann Sasse (1895-1976) was trained at the University of Berlin under such well-known theologians as Harnack and Deissmann. During a study year in the United States, Sasse discovered the writings of Wilhelm Lb he and returned to Europe a convinced confessional Lutheran. In this faith he persisted, despite great difficulties, as a professor of theology at the University of Erlangen and at Immanuel Seminary (later renamed Luther Seminary), North Adelaide, Australia. "The following lines and the letters, which, God willing, are to follow this one are addressed to Lutheran pastors ... whose hearts bleed whenever they see the condition in which the Lutheran Church of our day and of our world finds itself.... Thus Hermann Sasse begins nearly thirty years of correspondence with Lutheran pastors in Australia, the United States, and around the world on topics as varied as the nature of the Sacraments or of the Church, as well as ecumenical issues. Each letter reflects Sasse's passionate commitment to the building up of the Church of Christ on earth and to the Lutheran Confessions. Book jacket.
